The Delusion Of The Political Right

by John Russell

"Conservatives" know that the Trump campaign for the presidency is doomed.

"The right" , comprised of talk show hosts and listeners, white racial grievers, conspiracy fans, and the uninformed, believes that Trump could "easily turn it around" if he does this or that, by which they generally mean insert Benghazi and "e-mails" into every sentence on the campaign trail.

"The right" are the true believers who subscribe to American Thinker and Breibart, those who shout "lock her up" in their sleep and create and pass along memes with Hillary Clinton portrayed as Satan.

"Conservatives" are more acquainted with reality, we can assume this comes from observing Donald Trump in action for the past 14 months. These are the people who are sending letters to the news networks announcing they are voting for Hillary Clinton in November, siding with the Democratic candidate for "the first time in my life".  These folks are stepping forward every day now, just today Gordon Humphrey , a long time Republican congressman and senator from New Hampshire said he will vote for Clinton .

"I am ever more confirmed in my belief that Trump is a sociopath, without a conscience or feelings of guilt, shame or remorse. And he is pathologically insecure, recklessly attacking anyone who does not confirm him as the best there is," Humphrey said in an email to NBC News.

"To imagine Trump in charge of our armed forces at a moment of crisis is frightening," added Humphrey, who represented the swing state of New Hampshire in the Senate from 1979 to 1990.

"The right" dutifully avoids the inevitable importance and weight of Humphrey's words, and the words of all those, who like him, are staying grounded in reality.

The last week has been a pivot allright, but not the pivot Trump needs. It has been a pivot away from the fantasy that someone so lacking in credentials, knowledge, understanding, compassion, discipline, civility, and love of decency could ever become President of the United States.

Trump has been branded now, by the people. And his brand is "LOSER".   Make that "CRAZY LOSER."

Now that he is been "branded" , that brand cannot be removed.  The Democrats and Clinton will simply play his own words back to him every time he tries to pivot, and it WILL drive Trump more nuts than he already is.
