Well you had to live back in those times to appreciate that the music was changing from the old standards of Perry Como Frank Sinatra to a new genre of music. I liked most of the old rock from the girl groups right alongside those old standards my father listened to.

Me, too, Gunny!

The girl bands were fun!  Fun to listen to, fun to dance to, etc.  Just FUN!

If the point pf this article is to make fun of girl groups , give it a rest.  The Ronnettes, Darlene Love (The Crystals, BobbySoxx and the BlueJeans) ,The Supremes , Martha and the Vandellas, and The Shirelles , are all in the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame. Some of their songs were written by Carole King or Neil Sedaka , or Gene Pitney or Barry-Greenwich, or Holland-Dozier-Holland, who are all in the Songwriter's Hall Of Fame.

Well John, if these are some of your favorite girls groups and music, then I guess we have some of the same taste in music. I liked every one of them.

Yep, except when he moved the recording studio to L.A. and left The Funk Brothers behind unemployed. There is a great documentary on them called "In the Shadow of Motown" that is fantastic. It came of a few years ago, but as of then some of them were still playing clubs in Detroit together.

Rest assure the point is not to make fun of them. When I was young my mother filled the house with girl group music of the 1950's by stacking 45's on the record player (the one that looked like a skate box and opened up) and just changing them all of time.

This one really doesn't qualify as a girl group because the back up singers were male, but what the hell.

My wife has every CD use to be LPs that she put out.  Crazy is her favorite and Walking after Midnight. Hell I like em all.

And what's funny is that I am not really a country buff, only like a few of em.  Although I grew up with Buck Owens Jr. as my dad played for Buck Sr for a few years back in the early 50's When we lived in Bakersfield/Oildale.

When I was very young (5 years old) my parents divorced. Mom was a real rock and roller and dad, being a truck driver, was into C&W.  I lived with my mom until I was 8, so I was soaked in early rock and roll and then when I moved out into the country with dad and my stepmother it was classic C&W (Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, etc.). Dad used to tell me that you never really got C&W until you were really hurt for the first time or until you really hurt someone else for the first time (which hurts much, much more). He was right. Patsy is real crying in your beer music.

Of course years earlier Hank Williams did a song that was almost completely about the same thing. I know this is about females and girl groups, but this song is a perfect companion piece to Patsy Cline's "I fall to Pieces". So I'm going to post it anyway. What the hell, it's MY article! LOL

In their disco era the Bee Gees only sounded like a girl group. A very, very, very, very bad girl group!
