WIFE UPDATE:

I think the best way to do this is in summary of today’s initial, post-transplant visit with my wife's myeloma doctor; “All blood and other levels are good, recovery is ahead of schedule, and overall, she is doing ‘great’."(I asked the doctor if, in sending updates, I could use the word "great" -- the answer obviously was "yes").

Evening..Great news to hear...Just got back from Melbourne and I am now sporting a permcath in my right shoulder...They harvested my cells in 2 days and was not required to go on the 3rd day as they had enough cells....that was good news. Had a brilliant room all to myself, excellent view over the city and all the lights at night...So now I await the "summons" to go back to Melbourne for the "big blast" of chemo in a few weeks time and they will return my treated cells...So all good this side of the Pacific as it is over there..Slow and steady and yes, you both are certainly on the right path....jrSmiley_100_smiley_image.jpg

shona,

What you describe seems very much to parallel my wife's experience, right down to the single room (which happened by chance to be the only one available on that particular floor upon her admission). Leading up to her transplant, much of what we read seems in retrospect, to have been worse-case-scenario accounts (at least by contrast with ours), so hopefully, your "path" will be the "right" one as you proceed. I wish you well.

Shona.....the news from your end is very promising indeed. Please keep us posted on your progress with this treatment as well. Between you and Mac and the progress being made with his kind of treatment could be very helpful to others here who may have Family or Friends who could encounter the same kind of cancer.

Best wishes and prayers.

Edited version from one posted minutes ago:

UPDATE: 10/20/19 Keeping it real; almost all accounts we read from the time my wife's cancer was diagnosed, noted that there would be “good days and bad days” after the bone marrow transplant, including “feeling tired”. Although her recovery and blood evaluations are ahead of schedule, in fact, tiredness, adverse effects on her taste buds, general discomfort and other chemo-related phenomena are the realities.

We take short walks on nice days and my wife, gradually, is increasing her exercise. Hopefully, by post-transplant day 30, things like restaurants and other public places will be a “go” as will driving and other “normal” aspects of life will also resume. We are most grateful and appreciative to friends and relatives who have brought meals, shopped for groceries and who have offered support and good wishes.

My heart is truly with Mrs Mac in what she is going through. And with you. Chemo takes  serious toll on the body, and mentally and emotionally. It is like being fed a poison to fight the initial poison, both of which are hard to endure in their own right.

Bad days and perhaps temporary setbacks can be felt during that time. I am very sure that the love and devotion you have for your Mrs, and the positive attitude that you show her each day is the better medicine, and continues to give her the strength and determination to face each day with the courage she needs to stay on the right path.

You are the best medicine she can possibly have. Thank you, and may the Creator Bless you both.

Thank you, cobaltblue.

Those are Wood ducks; unlike other ducks species, they nest in trees and when the nestlings are big enough, the drop from the nest and walk into the water. The male in the photo is the fancy critter.

"The male in the photo is the fancy critter."

As are all male birds, I believe. They are such showoffs, trying to attract females.  Humans reverse that, do they not?

That is one function of male birds' colorful plumage; another is to make them conspicuous to nest predators that will pursue the colorful male that will draw them away from the nest!

Today in Philly was sunny, calm, and, we had a perfect afternoon for our longest walk around the neighborhood since my wife's return home. Even took the dog along.

Great news, Mac! Been in the 90's to day and for the next 5 days. Of course, here we have a variation in weather most all year around. One year we had 100 degrees on Christmas day!

Hope the warm weather holds for you and your Mrs so you can take more good walks to help get her strength back up. Winter will come soon enough. And I am sure Gracie will enjoy them as well.

A/noon..Yes it is the simple pleasures in life that bring the greatest of joy..Sounds like you are both going wonderfully well and that is great to hear. Today it is 30oC here and normally I would be hitting the waves with the boogie board..But alas that is not to be at the moment...and I miss it...But as they say "great things come to those that wait"...and by the sounds of it, it is already happening over there..with the greatest of happiness for you both as I to will follow your path shortly...Health, wealth and happiness always...from the Land Down Under....

Sometimes it is rather daunting, but with courage, grace and faith in oneself and the medical profession..."We will get there"....

Only rain and dampness today, but more birds.

Took this with the galaxy after work, behind the shop this evening. We had one family remain here over the summer.

Not exactly sure how this will turn out.
