Buy a roof from this Wyoming construction company, get a free AR-15

A Wyoming construction company has created a stir with its new promotion that offers customers a free AR-15 with every new roof installation.

The Pittsburgh City Council gave initial approval Wednesday, March 27, 2019, to gun-control legislation introduced in wake of the 2018 synagogue massacre, an effort certain to be challenged in court by Second Amendment advocates who point out that state law doesn't allow municipalities to regulate firearms. The legislation would place restrictions on military-style assault weapons like the AR-15 rifle that authorities say was used in the Oct. 27 rampage at Tree of Life Synagogue that killed 11 and wounded seven.(AP Photo/Lisa Marie Pane, File)

"I don't think there's anything more American or patriotic you can do for a roof giveaway than a free gun," Thomas told USA TODAY.

Thomas said the response to the social media post has been "awesome."

Wyoming is home to one of the least restrictive firearm laws in the country. No state permit is required to purchase or transfer a rifle, shotgun or handgun.

Still, the company consulted with a lawyer to make sure the promotion followed federal laws. Customers must prove they are at least 21 years of age, the owner of the home getting the new roof and not a convicted felon, as well as acknowledge they will abide by state and federal gun laws. The company will log the gun's serial number and submit a transfer ownership form. Then the gun belongs to the customer.

'God, Guns and Freedom':  A rural Alabama Ford dealership's Fourth of July promotion is a viral sensation

"Legally, we don't have to do that. But we just want to be above par with everything, and we don't want to seem like we're just throwing out guns left and right to whoever. I want to make sure that it's done properly," Thomas said.

Wiggins Construction is coming off its busiest year in 2020, which Thomas credits to the recent housing boom in the state.

"There's a reason people live in Wyoming. There's a reason that people are moving here at an alarming rate. (It) is to get away from the censorship, to get away from the politics of big cities and to enjoy the freedoms that the Constitution (has) granted them," he said.

The company is booked over the next year and a half but is expanding roofing operations because of the promotion. Thomas estimates over 150 roofs will be installed by the end of the year.

He said he's received emails and phone calls from across the country since the promotion was announced, both positive and negative, but plans to respond to each one.

"Part of that Constitution as well is freedom of speech, and I 100% encourage anybody, whether they're pro or against the promotion to, and I will hear out every argument."  Thomas said. "I don't mind you calling us baby killers and saying all sorts of negative stuff about our company because it's your constitutional right to do so."

Thomas said he doesn't think he needs to defend the Second Amendment, but referred to how, "you don't see stories of mass shootings in Wyoming," despite having the highest number of registered guns per capita in the country,  according to CBS News .

"We're just doing this for local people, and just as a thank you gift for doing business with our company," Thomas said.

This isn't the first time guns have been offered for promotions. In 2019,  a Ford dealership in Alabama  offered shotguns with the purchase of cars.

What's next?  AR-15s as wedding, anniversary and birthday presents?  Christmas gifts?  quiz show prizes?  college debate team winner awards?  gifts to the whole World Series winner team?  50-year employee appreciation gift instead of a gold watch?  After all, what could be more American or patriotic?

Sadly Buzz not much.

Add in alcoholism and mental illness and we live in a trifecta of death.

But, its always the other guy so.......

This is certainly nothing new.

O BTW, we do count apple pie and baseball as American and patriotic. So there is that.

What's next?

That is only limited by the imagination of the individual.  There was a bank in Colorado that used to give a gun as a promotion much like New York banks gave toasters.

AR-15s as wedding, anniversary and birthday presents?

If the newly weds or anniversary celebrants would like them, why not?   As to birthday presents, I've already accomplished that for my children and grandchildren.

Christmas gifts?

Already done.   If the recipient asked 'Santa' for that, if she/she is responsible enough and of a legal age, it's a great gift.

  quiz show prizes?

That would be dependent on the location and legality.

college debate team winner awards?

I never heard of "college debate teams" ever receiving anything of a monetary value.  But it's a possibility I guess.

gifts to the whole World Series winner team?

If the winning team had people with clean records, ie - no drug or violence arrests, if someone was willing to provide them, and the team accepted, who am I or you to deny them?

50-year employee appreciation gift instead of a gold watch?

A good idea as it's useful for multiple things.  Hunting, target shooting, defense which is more useful than a new watch to act as a magnet for criminals to accost the owner.

After all, what could be more American or patriotic?

Buying all American products from American companies whenever possible.  That would be a good start.

I think in general sales go up because people start talking about restrictions or making it illegal to possess guns which are legal now.

Like Obama, Biden is the best gun salesman arms manufacturers could ever ask for. Every time he opens his mouth gun sales go up.

The whole "defund the police" movement among Democrats has helped out greatly as well. So have the riots for the last 5 plus years that show no sign of letting up. Homicide rates have also gone up since the start of Covid-19.

Why the hell would anyone ever want to own a gun in the US? We are the safest country on the planet to live in./S

The kind of person who owns a home and invests in renovating the roof doesn’t really strike me as the kind of person who is going to go out and murder a bunch of people. There are hundreds of millions of firearms in the US. Only a minuscule percentage of them are used to commit murder - and like I said, generally not by the type of person who would benefit from this deal.

It's not unexpected by me that those who so cherish their guns would rationalize gun ownership.  Homeowners have children and it's not exactly unheard of that after their children mow down people as if they were grass on a lawn that they would say their kid was disturbed - so why didn't they report that, eh?  There are more guns owned by people in the USA than there are people in the USA.  France has a gourmet culture, Italy has an opera culture,  Israel has a religious culture, China has an ancient tradition culture, America has a gun culture - Happiness is a warm gun.

A lot of these gun fanatics are also inbred racist bible humpers.

They cling to their bibles, ignorance and guns, lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of guns.

Funny how these ignorant morons claim whenever a Democrat is President that they are COMING FOR YOUR GUNS!  NO, they're not.  We just want sensible gun regulations.

NO GUNS.

We all know and have acknowledged , that will never happen . AND we all know that is the actual end game  and desire of gun control fanatics .

Criminals will just have them come over the borders as they already do, they will not follow any laws having to do with firearms or there use .

those that have them and decide NOT to follow the law will become criminals for something they have a right to own currently .

But by all means beat heads against the wall calling for disarmament , I doubt many are really listening whose minds can be changed .

have to ask , if all military and police world wide breakdown and are not there, whats the first thing someones going to be looking for? This isnt Great Britian of the 1939-40 after they disarmed civilians  when they could get lend lease or have someone send them guns for the "home guard" from abroad.

And yet bemoaning the facts , wont change anything .

personally i have considered the presidents proposals made so far.

As for the "ghost gun " issue , those without serial numbers? a pretty simple solution as far as the AR platform is concerned is , once it is formed and the magazine well is machined out , it gets a corrosponding serial number to be stamped once it reaches the 80% thresh hold , i say not to stamp it before then but have a number ready because the blanks can be inadvertantly destroyed or screwed up during the rest of the machining . if it is the number can be reassigned , and the messed up blank destroyed . If its sold at anytime before the 80% for someone else to do the rest of the machining ,its stamped .

it wont do anything where someone does all the steps themselves but it is a start

that would go a ways to help that issue  and can be applied to other types of firearms frames  sold in "KIT GUNS".

Red flag laws , from my understanding the president wants to come up with "model"  red flag laws that the states can adopt on their own accord (my understanding ) rather than make a blanket federal law .

That might be ok if thats as far as he goes and makes options that states can adjust to their own specific set of circumstances , that way the states if they choose can "tailor make " the legislation to be adopted on the state level and if they want include some very stringent due process protections .

There is just 2 things that might and can work .

Open a checking account and get a free toaster.
Buy three new tires and get the fourth for free.
Buy a new roof and get an AR-15 for free.

Much ado about nothing. This type of sales giveaways has been used for many years but this one causes some people to have issues because it's that evil black gun.  The article says they are following all laws both federal and state and only people who are legally eligible to purchase the gun from a gun store will be able to receive the free gun. Not a big deal in my mind.

Never heard about anyone killing someone with a toaster, or a tire.  It was just a publiciey gimmick and tha fact there was a news story about it indicates that the gimmick was successful.  After all, what's the big deal about an AR-15. they're as common and popular as chocolate bars.

Of course it's a publicity gimmick.  All my examples were used as publicity gimmicks. That's not new in the sales industry.  Years back when I had a house built, the builders gave away upgraded carpet padding if you signed the contract on a certain weekend. They are all gimmicks.  Some people are just upset because they fear the gun. But if the roofing company is following all federal and local laws what is the real problem? I would say don't fear a legal gun owner because the majority of them are not a problem. All too often when a tragic gun crime happens we hear after the fact of some issue that if the process had been fullly followed the person should not have been able to get ahold of the gun they used.  Let's be honest here, if AR-15's and their owners were as bad as some people want to paint them to be we would have multiple mass incidents daily as there are an estimated 10-15 million AR-15's in private ownership in the US.  That's just the AR-15, doesn't include the numbers for any gun that looks like or functions like an AR.

People continue to talk about wanting common-sense gun laws. To me, any accidental or intentional gun death is a tragedy.  But rather than just talk about banning future sales of any specific gun, I would rather that we look into the common causes of why people misuse guns and work on developing a solution to that. It just seems like it makes more sense to work on a solution that can actually provide positive results rather than a band-aid solution which to me banning the new sales of a specific type of gun is.

It happens.

Teen murdered with toaster, rolling pin

Toaster was used to kill man, court is told

As for tires: They’re usually attached to cars or trucks. Surely you have heard of someone killing a person with a motor vehicle. 38,000 people are killed in car crashes in the United States every year. Believe it or not, that’s more than are killed with guns, and yes, I am including suicides.

The solution - as it is with so many things - is not to get rid of the object being used. We need better people who aren’t inclined to commit murder. For that matter, it would be nice if people were more careful drivers.

Here's a link to an old LA Times article about a couple of banks in Michigan and Colorado.  I actually got a Weatherby from the Colorado Bank which is worth appreciably more now than when I received it.  That's the value to a good gun, they'll invariably appreciate over time.
