Six Habits of Highly Empathetic People

It can be difficult to reach out, understand and actually listen to others when we ourselves are often flailingand thrashing around in our own lives.
I am a really good listener, honed from years of visiting the sick and elderly, lonely and often frightened people who need to speak and be heard.
I have tried to walk in another's shoes, did serve in two soup kitchens as a cook, and in a shelter for 11 years. (One evolves quite some in a time frame as long as that) I have marched on Washington a few times, once with my teenaged daughter, lol.
What about you? What on this list and perhaps more are you personally familiar with?
What an interesting list ambiv. I had to re read it, to be sure that I took it all in.
I've done some of the things on the list.
2nd Wounded Knee, various protests for American Indians.
I love learning about other people/cultures. I spent some time living/learning about the Samoan people, and ending up speaking their language.
Have lived with the Indigenous peopleof Thailand, the Ahka.
Lived in two worlds most of my life. Being of mixed blood and culture gives one a totally different perspective on life and the people that surround you.
Great article ambiv.
I love the adventure of going to new places, off the beaten track and meeting and learning about the indigenous people there.
The two biggest Pow Wow's are ''The Gathering of Nations'' in NM the end of April, and the ''Red Earth Festival'' held the first part of June, in Oklahoma City.
Both are really worth attending ambiv. Perhaps we'll bump into one another there.
Excellent example BF. There is a whole world out there for us to explore and learn from.
I wish that more people would vote up these articles! I loved this one. Good find Ambie!
Well I took the test and I only don't have one of the qualities. I haven't made any movements that have caused change. I guess something to put on my bucket list.
I had all the traits, to some sort of degree, but obviously, I need to work on it a bit more!
I tend to get impatient with people who are mean to other people. Which is a character flaw, to be sure. I need to be more empathetic to them, as well.
Great article, ambi!!!
It has always been kind of the nature of what I did. I was a teacher for over 20 years and kids like to be heard. Here, I try to validate everyone and see how I can solve any problem that I can.
But I also love people. I find them very interesting. There is always so much to learn.
