The new Pope deserves all the acclaim he is getting and much much more.

Time Magazine man of the year and very deserving. The new Pope is bound to upset the Catholic Church of the United States of Corporations. Can our Government endure his reign.

Remember when the nuns were told to not take care of the poor and sick. Wow what a turn around this Pope is doing that he issetting up an example to all the Catholic Religions in the World to all religions of the world.. This will not settle well with Bahner and the GOP. Bahner was an alter boy and has forgotten that Jesus was for treating the sick and hungry and not having his hand out for payment.

Can our country endure a Pope with ethics true Compassion and not attack him thru FUX news and Clear Channel (the Romney Bain Capital news network) one main channel and 1199 repeater channels. Propaganda on all their channels every day all the time. If you like Fascism tune in to the WLW's and the other 1199 stations.

The stations are not called repeaters but rather known as closet stations. They can operate out of a closet they need no staff or people when clear channel buys a station they get rid of 85 % of the employees.

A Pope who hates Fascism I love it and I'm not Catholic. We have very few Catholics like him in this capitalistic Fascist country what's left of our Freedom and our one person one vote society, it hasdied a horrible death.

The Time Magazine article I'm sure already exists on news talkers. I didn't see it but want to emphasize the impact this man is having. I don't mean to steal any ones thunder. Just applaud a true leader who leads by example. Kind of like Bernie Sanders on a much bigger platform.

As a proud practitioner of Orthodox Judaism I find myself nodding my head in agreement with a lot of what Pope Francis says, does and how he does it.

He earned my respect right out of the starting gate.

Peace, Compassion, Service to Humanity and Abundant Blessings To and FromUs All.

Enoch,

I'm in agreement too, and I am not a Catholic either. This Pope leads a humble life and in the service to mankind. He is truly a man who practices what he preaches. A better choice for Man of the Year there couldn't be.

I agree withyou, dear friend. I have been very impressed by his message, which is one of peace and compassion. For the first time in many years, I have hope that the Catholic Church will become more open to its members, and the realities they face.

I'm a Methodist, but it seems to me that where the Catholic Church goes, so do many of the protestant religions as well. I can only hope that all of them follow this very important message!

Reasonably related -

Pope attacks mega-salaries and wealth gap in peace message - "(Reuters) - Pope Francis said in the first peace message of his pontificate that huge salaries and bonuses are symptoms of an economy based on greed and inequality and called again for nations to narrow the wealth gap.

In his message for the Roman Catholic Church's World Day of Peace, marked around the world on January 1, he also called for sharing of wealth and for nations to shrink the gap between rich and poor, more of whom are getting only "crumbs".

"The grave financial and economic crises of the present time ... have pushed man to seek satisfaction, happiness and security in consumption and earnings out of all proportion to the principles of a sound economy," he said.

"The succession of economic crises should lead to a timely rethinking of our models of economic development and to a change in lifestyles," he said.

Francis, who was named Time magazine's Person of the Year on Wednesday, has urged his own Church to be more fair, frugal and less pompous and to be closer to the poor and suffering."

Just goes to show that the right will hate on anyone who is critical with respect to the pillars of their ideology ... including the pope. It's hard to think of a more shockingly ironic person for them to tear down. It's a harrowing existence to claim to wear Christian values on your sleeve, while simultaneously going in the opposite direction of Christ.

Well, I'm not a Catholic (nor do I play one on TV Grin.gif ). And I generally don't closely follow news about the Church.

But from everything I've heard, I really like this guy! Its easy for followers of any religion to wander "off message"-- to misinterpret the true teachers of their religion. So its nice to see him leading the Church.

If one were to once again ask that age-old question "Is the Pope Catholic"...(a true Catholic) in this case the answer would be a resounding "yes"!

Some have accused him of Marxism. In a recent interview he responded (though it still raises questions about specifics):

Some of the passages in the Evangelii Gaudium attracted the criticism of ultraconservatives in the USA. As a Pope, what does it feel like to be called a Marxist?

The Marxist ideology is wrong. But I have met many Marxists in my life who are good people, so I dont feel offended.

The most striking part of the Exhortation was where it refers to an economy that kills

There is nothing in the Exhortation that cannot be found in the social Doctrine of the Church. I wasnt speaking from a technical point of view, what I was trying to do was to give a picture of what is going on. The only specific quote I used was the one regarding the trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and social inclusiveness in the world. The promise was that when the glass was full, it would overflow, benefitting the poor. But what happens instead, is that when the glass is full, it magically gets bigger nothing ever comes out for the poor. This was the only reference to a specific theory. I was not, I repeat, speaking from a technical point of view but according to the Churchs social doctrine. This does not mean being a Marxist.
