This brave pint-sized little dachshund, Leo, attacked a raging bull-mastiff cross=breed when it attacked the girl who was walking home from a friends house.  The large dog had the girl pinned on the ground when this normally fearful dachshund came to her rescue.

A breeder who was moved by this act of bravery, presented the neighbor with another dachshund when she heard of the incident.  The new pet, pictured below with Leo’s owner Biljana Llic, is named Djole.

Read about Leo’s final act of bravery below.

New-Dog-300x200.jpghttp://dachshundcorner.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/New-Dog.jpg 1024w" alt="Biljana Ilic, the owner of Leo, a dachshund that defended a child from an attack by another dog, holds her new pet dachshund named Djole, in Pancevo, 12 kilometers east of Belgrade, Serbia, Friday, July 3, 2015. When a raging bull-mastiff cross-breed last year attacked a ten-year-old girl, Leo fearlessly jumped to her rescue, barking and biting at the dog way above his size and strength. Leo paid his courage with his life, but the citizens of a northern Serbian town have made sure he is not forgotten. (AP Photo/Marko Drobnjakovic)" width="300" height="200">

In between their recess games, children at a playground in the Serbian city of Pancevo stop to see a bronze life-sized Dachshund, who looks over their play. And no one appreciates those visits more than Nikolina Vucetic.
The statue was erected in honor of Leo, who saved Vucetic, then 10 years old, from a vicious dog attack near her home last year.  Normally afraid of dogs larger than him, Leo, the neighbor’s pint-sized companion, leapt into action. He jumped on the larger dog, who released the young girl and turned on Leo instead.  Leo died of his injuries.
The inscription on the statue reads, “To all the small dogs with big hearts.”

Yes they are small, short, long, big ears, funny looking and friendly.

But they also have the heart of a lion.

I've had three doxies, PeeWee, Peanut and Wiki. Currently Wiki Warrior Wonder Wiener resides as the queen of the house. Each of the three has shown incredible courage in their life times.

You know I love dachshunds and especially the dear little Wiki!  She's such a doll baby!

Yes, dachshunds are VERY courageous.  Strong and hardy.  Able to take on a badger in its den-- and that's something!  Love them, all of them...

Bravo to this brave little dachshund, who willingly gave his life for a child!  What courage and bravery!  Rest in peace, dear little Leo.  May you run and play in the Elysium fields, forever.  You deserve it!
