Far left signals intent to shut down Ben Shapiro’s speech in Berkeley this Thursday
The mayor of Berkeley, Jesse Arreguin, and the governor of California, Jerry Brown, are now on notice that a violent mob will try to shut down a scheduled speech by Ben Shapiro, a well-known conservative. These government executives are charged with the responsibility of maintaining public order and guaranteeing the constitutional rights to free speech and free assembly. They also know from personal experience that mob violence can be expected, because of the damage wright by armed and masked thugs who thwarted those rights in the case of Milo Yiannopoulos.

The evidence of the planned disruption is telling. The paramilitary group Refuse Fascism openly labels – with no basis whatsoever – Shapiro as a “fascist” and “white supremacist.” These are the mental excuses their thugs use to justify in their own minds their violent repression of those with whom they disagree. They are laying the basis for violence.

There is no question that the City of Berkeley and the State of California have more than adequate resources to do their duty. Mutual aid acts could bring hundreds of law enforcement officers to the city on Thursday, along with armored vehicles, water cannons, and other resources that could to ensure a speech that is unimpeded by political thuggery.

As for the University of California itself, the signs are mixed at best. The new Chancellor Carol Christ has announced that this is the Free Speech Year, which seems to indicate her priorities differ from her predecessor’s. But the University has beclowned itself treating Shapiro as if he is a threat to the mental health of its snowflake students and offering counseling.

Any failure to maintain order is on the executives who don't do their duty. I hope and trust AG Sessions is watching with interest.

Riots expected. The precedent has been established. The rule of law is now: "DO NOT LET ANYONE OPEN THEIR MOUTH WHO DOES NOT KOWTOW TO THE PROGRESSIVE LEFTIST CREED. FUCK THE FIRST AMENDMENT."

Isn't it ironic that the very place (UC Berkeley), which once proclaimed itself to be the birth place of free speech is now unquestionably the main opponent of free speech. It will now be up to Conservatives to defend the Constitution.

BTW, I read somewhere that the Police Force has been authorized the use of Tear Gas.  Maybe un-hamstringing the police will keep order.

Free Speech is Free Speech and the free exchange of ideas is what the Universities are there for in the first place.

There is no right to free speech in ivory tower limousine liberal coastal California unless you are a secular progressive.

Once again Berkley puts on display the intolerance of the left.    I don't even think they are trying to pretend they are not infringing on First Amendment rights anymore.  The left is attempting to strip the nation of one of it's cornerstone constitutional rights and are trying to convince the ignorant that if you don't agree there is actually something wrong with YOU.   Because the left is NEVER wrong/s

You hit it there 96. Nobody is even attempting to hide the fact. Same with socialism. About a decade ago, maybe more, if you called a liberal a socialist, they'd cry foul. Now, they wear it with pride.

Nothing like a small bunch of rowdies to push rightwing hysteria and histrionics to a fever pitch.  I'm always amused about how twisted their panties get even as they like to call liberals "snowflakes."  But a large group of neo-nazis and kluxers screaming hate toward Jews and minorities doesn't seem to bother them at all.  Oh, maybe it's because they're so well organized.

John,

So sad to see you have jumped on board with trampling first amendment rights.  (not surprised however, as long as it fits the liberal narrative)

Thank you for your post as is shows just how unhinged liberals have become.  First of all you assume hate speech, which is pure bullshit.  Then you try to use it as an excuse for trampling the rights of EVERY AMERICAN.  This is the same kind of f*cked up liberal shortsightedness that did away with the 60 majority and several other issues that came back to bite you (and the entire country) in the ass but you never learn.

Now most of you are pushing socialism while you ignore Venezuela burning.   Just a thought.   Where are Penn, Glover and the rest of the liberal ass-hats that praised Chavez now?   Still pushing the same socialism four our country!

No, it is "hate speech" you just have a vastly different definition of the term. Hate speech is any speech hated by the left. Your comment could be defined as hate speech.

This comment could be defined as hate speech.

Most anything running counter to the leftist narrative is hate speech.

Were we to use the common understanding of hate speech, much of the leftist narrative of history, race, or religion, would fall into that category. That is why the change of meaning.

But a large group of neo-nazis and kluxers screaming hate toward Jews

The KKk were the action arm of the democratic party.(who were to the left of Republicans) It's historical fact.

Nazis were socialists, who are to the left of republicans as well. The left has now, as it did in the past, have an antisemitism problem.

Even on election day a woman was filmed at a polling booth in a Jewish area calling on people to vote Labour “to get the Jews out.”

it's the left with the antisemitism problem, Bernie is friends with Jeremy Corbyn

The rise of antisemitism in politics in America is troubling, my hope, is, that it does not reach the level it is in Europe. I follow Harry's Place blog, who covers antisemitism in Europe, where it is much more out in the open. Here the voter base is not large enough, to outweigh the voter support of antisemitic tropes, against the larger communities disgusted and very public response.

But that voter base is growing from immigration from areas that have frighteningly high levels of antisemitism spread across the entire demographic of the population. That's why it's so popular in merry old England. It gets votes from delusional antisemites. Let's prevent that from occurring in America.

Whereas other forms of racism tend to demean people because of their race, ethnicity or sexuality the Jews are hated because they are considered omnipotent therefore responsible for all the evils of the world.

But the antisemitism expressed by members of the British Labour Party didn’t stop the electorate voting for them in their millions. Even on election day a woman was filmed at a polling booth in a Jewish area calling on people to vote Labour “to get the Jews out.”

From a New York Times article, the "socialism of fools" on the intersection of antisemitism and the left from 1970, things have just gotten worse since.

THE American New Left largely shares the pro‐Arab terrorist views expressed by the movement in Europe. In general, however, the white American left has been more inhibited than the European in expressing anti ‐ Semitic statements, probably because so much of its audience and mass base is Jewish. Nevertheless, some of its spokesmen have called for terrorism against American supporters of Israel. Eric Mann, a leader of the Weathermen, writing in The Guardian of Oct. 17, 1970, stated: “Israeli embassies, tourist offices, airlines and Zionist fund‐raising and social affairs are important targets for whatever action is decided to be appropriate.” A student of Weathermen activities, Ross Baker, professor of political science at Rutgers, has seriously raised the question as to whether the recent series of bombings in Rochester, N. Y., of assorted governmental and Establishment targets—which include two synagogues — “might be the assertion that Weathermen's embrace of the Palestinian Liberation Movement has been translated into depredations against Jewish religious institutions in America .” There is, of course, no evidence as to which group was responsible for the bombing in Rochester, but the pattern followed does strongly suggest that it was a leftist or black militant one.

Overt expressions of anti Semitism have occasionally appeared in American New Left organs. Thus, in an article, “Jews Riot in the Ghetto,” in The East Village Other of Oct. 18, 1968, Philip Anthony fantasized in a crudely anti Semitic fashion concerning the consequences of the possible assassination of Albert Shanker, president of the New York teachers’ union. The article included crude parodies of Yiddish expressions and accents. ...

The weathermen, were of the left. Bill Ayers is a friend of Obama.

Obama Secretly Partied With Bill Ayers Last Summer

On Aug. 30, 2014, MSNBC anchor Alex Wagner and former White House chef Sam Kass got married at a private wedding north of New York City. It was widely reported at the time that President Obama, a longtime friend of the groom, attended the ceremony with his family. There were two other notable guests, however, whose attendance has been successfully kept secret: Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, the former campus radicals whose loose association with the Obama family over the years has inspired countless Fox News fever-dreams and led to Sarah Palin’s famous accusation that Obama “ pal[s] around with terrorists .”

We recently heard that Ayers and Dohrn, both former leaders of the Weather Underground, the militant left-wing group best known for bombing empty government buildings in the 1970s, were also present for the Wagner-Kass celebration at the Blue Hill at Stone Barns, a restaurant and event space in Pocantico Hills, New York.

While the fact that Obama was literally partying with former advocates of violent struggle against the U.S. government will no doubt be taken by his critics as further evidence that he hates America, the most interesting thing about the wedding is the shocking proof it offers that—at long last!— Obama truly no longer gives a fuck about keeping up political appearances

I do not ignore you, PJ. I read quite a bit of your content, and I respond occasionally.

I look for robust debate, as opposed to the shit that gets kicked up most of the time, such as what you can find on a number of threads in this very seed. Clearly, the opportunities to debate a point have diminished here. It's mostly the Newsvine style of "discourse". They finally got what they deserved. I worry that the influx might pull us into the same vortex.
