Tit for Tat, How To Say Nothing And Fling Poo On The Forum!

T1113.jpg

This is not a new phenomena it happens on Every forum. A News article appears that negatively portrays a political party, politician or party supporter. Instead of discussing the article on the forum we run to google to find an opposing article of equal negativity. Birds of a feather then flock to the articles that best represent their opinions to offer nothing of substance.

Wouldn't we better suited to have discussions about the news instead of using negative news to shoe horn a chosen political narrative?

In the last few days we've seen the intellectual level of TheNewstalkers devolve into a simple Democrats are stupid or Republicans are stupid. What does this say about the partisans on this site?

Another misconception is that the site is Conservative or Liberal. This myth perpetuates the behavior. Newstalkers is a balanced. No one particular group has a monopoly of ideology or advantage on the site. This site has democrats, republicans, independents, libertarians, liberals, socialists etc.

Use your big boy and big girl words and explain to us why a News story is inaccurate or a political policy will not work. If you want an echo chamber where you can belittle people you disagree with do it in your private group or heated discussion.

Let's discuss the news.

So I take it that you don't support the concept of counting coup.

The closest I can get to being 'good' with a 'hand' weapon [that doesn't go bang] is my PSC compound bow. No experience with a slicer dicer, unless you count my rapier wit...

I don't use a compound bow, I go with the recurve longbow.

What state are you in?

That is an arbitrary limit. Our most prolific white tail bow is a 49# recurve hand made by a local bow maker. It will send the same weight arrow faster than any 55# bow I have seen. It has a very smooth release and both limbs work closely in concert together. No noticeable jar when the string returns.

Maybe I need to freshen up on the rules.

I've been through Oklahoma on I-40 from the Arkansas border to the Texas border multiple times going to and from Camp Pendleton, CA.  And from Joplin, MO through Tulsa to Oklahoma City to I-40 to go to CA and NV.  Also, numerous trips to Tulsa Airport via Siloam Springs, AR to Tulsa.

I suppose I should check out what there is do in Oklahoma besides just drive through it.

I've always been kind of a homebody whose hobbies consisted of riding horses, hunting quail and fishing close to home in Northwest Arkansas.

One of favorite places to visit and drive around was Eureka Springs, AR.  I love the hills, trees and isolation.

I lived in No Virginia from 2004 to 2008, and traveled from there to Ft Meyers FL, and to Atlanta and the Great Smokey Mtns. But, I was never in AR. I had a Cousin that lived in Lamar for many years and he loved the countryside. He grew Christmas Trees on his ranch as a hobby after he retired.

He was raised and lived most of his life in Los Angeles, and when he moved to Lamar he bought a house on a high hill. All was fine until winter came and he was not able to drive up to his house when the snow and ice was abundant. So he sold that house the next Spring and bought one on flatter ground. (grin).

I used to manage rentals in Bella Vista, AR (which is hill and hollow) and was a retirement community.

Renters were perplexed with how they were going to get in/out of their driveways in snow and ice.  I told them that the locals normally stocked up on supplies and stayed home until roads were passable again.

Arkansas is too far south to get federal money for snow equipment and the roads have never been well maintained.  So even though I usually had level driveways, I could rarely drive on the highways once I reached them.  And it is difficult to drive more than a mile or two without encountering hills and curves.

It is just better to stay at home by the wood stove and read, play rummy or put puzzles together with the kids.  LOL!

I can tell you that first winter was a real eye opener for my So Calif born and bred Cousin, where we rarely get ice or snow except in the Mountains and the high deserts. I myself had the same kind of eye opener with that kind of weather when I moved to No Virginia, with lots of snow and ice, and ice storms. Luckily, I was only 45 minutes SW of DC and in the DC Metro area, and many of the people in that area worked in DC. So the roads and highways were well plowed and maintained. But, if you got off on the really rural roads you were up a creek with out a coffee can.

I was really glad to get back to So Calif where I didn't have to contend with that kind of weather, but, I did miss the beautiful scenery and Skyline Drive in the Fall. I was less than an hour drive from Shenandoah Valley and Mtns. I did a lot of research on my Maternal Cherokee ancestors who were from that called that area their homeland.

I registered here a while before NV shut down but didn't actually make the move until NV went dark. I like the moderation, and it's apparent consistency.  A couple of things I see that I saw on NV that gives me pause? "Liberals", and the use of that word constantly to point out anyone that doesn't agree with what a conservative says.... Not everyone is a liberal, not everyone that disagrees with 'you' is a liberal, and using the term as a racial slur/bigoted term really does get tiring. I am many things, a liberal isn't one of them. I wish I WAS more liberal, but it's just not me. I have been told by people that I am, "socially liberal, fiscally conservative, right leaning democrat". I suppose that's fairly close. I see that there are some very good posters here from NV, (too many to name), and of course, there are some hard core trolls from the right here as well. Earlier today one of them singled me out and attacked me citing, "well on NV you..................." blah blah blah. I had hoped that coming here, things like that would be left in the past. Apparently, I was wrong. I didn't come here to rehash old problems from a now dead blog. My advice to those old detractors? If you want to debate me, fine, I am happy to do so, if you want to attack me because you just don't like me? Save it, you are wasting my time and yours. Move on, get over it.

What we have here are right wingers Comment removed policy [ph] that are passive aggressive instigators. We almost never saw this tactic here before these new members. They constantly complain about some grievance or other they have about other commenters here, aka "the liberals" .  This tactic is VERY obvious, I saw it burgeoning weeks ago, and the main issue now is if the moderators will see it and discourage it.

That is only your own opinion, John. Your continuing to throw daggers at anyone and everyone you disagree with is also what causes a lot of contention here on NT. And stop trying to blame it all on the newcomers, there were/are plenty of people here on NT long before the newcomers moved over that made the same kind of political rhetoric and divisive taunts, including yourself.

And give the Moderators the credit they truly deserve on how to Moderate this site. Just because they don't do it to your personal liking does not mean they are not doing their job fairly and correctly. Perrie has given a Grace period here for the newcomers to adjust to the new site. When that Grace period is up, then they will learn how they are expected to behave here if they continue bad behavior.

No one here on NT is here to please only you and agree to everything you think and believe, no matter how many times and loud you complain.

Just my own 2 cents worth

It's perfectly fine to compare and contrast. Trump gets a lot of grief and negative comment, both here and on the now extinct NV. It's only fair to point out the sins of commission and omission that the left wing is guilty of. That includes their ex and current "leaders"

I don't believe NT has an "ignore" feature to block out the worse offenders. It would be nice to have one.

Indeed it does. However, even if there is an ignore button I am not one to use it.  I just ignore those who are not interested in having viable, civil and respectful discussion or conversation, and only want to assume that I do not have the brains or the right not to adhere to their own way of thinking.

I will agree that not everyone has that kind of patience and will endlessly respond to those types and give them the endless platform to promote their own agenda. Which is usually merely to disrupt and divide.

However, when one becomes accustomed to relying on such features then I can understand why it would be a big loss to them.

Nope...I agree with SO3. I welcome all new members, no matter what their political preference. They are just as entitled to their own preference as you are to yours, John. Just because you can't tolerate those who think differently than you do is no cause to put them in a unfavorable light.

For me, as long as they present their comments in a civil, respectful and tolerant manner, I have not problem. If they can't do that here on NT, they will soon find they are going to be Moderated. They will soon learn that NT will not become another NV. You and I both know that Perrie and  the majority of NT members will not allow that to happen. And if they can't take being Moderated for their unwarranted behavior they are free to leave. No one is holding a gun to their heads to force them to remain a member here on NT.

It is very unfair and uncalled for that you continue to denigrate new members for their own political preferences if they don't meet your personal approval.

The fact is, I feel that way on both sides. The endless denigrating and derogatory terms used on both sides is disgusting and totally unnecessary for adult conversations. And IMHO, those who revel in using them to inflame and insult others is totally uncalled for and less than Kindergarten behavior, and they should look for a site where their toddler name calling would be a better fit.

While I recognize that many use those terms because they somehow see themselves superior to others, and anyone who does not agree with their own thinking, beliefs or POV, many also use them mainly to create divisiveness and and a hostile environment, and are not at all interested in engaging in civil and respectful dialog here.

However, no matter how hard they may try, NT will never become NV, and the sooner they learn that fact and clean up their act the better off we will all be.

Just my opinion. But, I don't allow anyone to use those terms when addressing their comments to me if they wish to engage in discussion or conversation with me. And that is my right. What they do with others is on them.
