PARIS (AP) — France's government has fired back at a flurry of critical tweets by Donald Trump, suggesting the U.S. president lacked "common decency" by launching his broadside on a day when France was mourning victims of the November 2015 terror attacks.
Government spokesman Benjamin Griveaux said Wednesday: "We were commemorating the assassination of 130 of our compatriots three years ago in Paris and Saint-Denis, and so I will reply in English: 'Common decency' would have been appropriate."
Nursing grievances from a weekend visit to France, Trump lit into French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday over his suggestion for a European defense force, over French tariffs on U.S. wine and even Macron's approval ratings.
The tweets underscored tensions between the once-chummy leaders and displayed Trump's irritation over criticism of how he acted in France.
US-France 'Bromance' on the rocks after Trump's twitter tirade
On the heels of a rocky trip to Paris to mark the World War I centenary, Trump fired off a caustic series of early-morning tweets against French President Emmanuel Macron and renewed his frequent charge that America's European allies in NATO spend too little on defense.

France didn't already know this? Hell, it is common knowledge.
I think it’s time we do it change the name to freedom fries.
That was done before. Why now?
Because this type of crap the French are serving up leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
What crap would that be? [Deleted]
removed for context
Oh, ok.
Trump with ''common decency''.....LMAO, now that's funny.
'Trump with ''common decency''.....LMAO, now that's funny.'
What two things don't go together? That is funny
The French lecturing anyone on "common decency" now that is really funny.
French officials took bribes from Iraq to get sanctions lifted
Don't forget the little gem France and Britain gave the world to get oil rights in Libya
Call me when France, and NATO for that matter, can handle a third world wannabe like Libya without the US doing all of the heavy lifting. (While they stab us in the back) They no room to talk of "common decency" even when it involves Trump.
OMG, that's just horrible. The U.S. has never done anything like that have we?
Macron is just trying to pander to his people the best he can. His popularity in his own country is well below Trumps in the US.
Charging the US as being nationalist? Look at your own country dumb-ass. Few countries are as nationalist as France is and quite frankly, there us nothing wrong with that.
Every country should look out for its best interest of its people.
Trump panders to his base almost daily.
Trump is honoring campaign promises that got him elected and leading a record economy by many measures. Not that you could tell that via the lack mass media reporting on such.
Macron? Not so much. He's done and he knows it. So he panders like dog begging for dinner table scraps in an attempt to become relevant again.
Any honoring of campaign promises or leading a record economy are being reported on by the media because these things are not happening.
Only in the world of the chronically butt hurt deniers and resisters.
Giving us ridiculously biased and liberal rhetoric since November 2016.
Not true.
The Federal Reserve announced another quarter-percentage-point increase in interest rates Wednesday as expected, citing a strong labor market and economy.
The Fed raised the benchmark borrowing rate to a range of 2 percent to 2.25 percent, the third hike this year .
In its announcement , the Fed said: The labor market "has continued to strengthen and ... economic activity has been rising at a strong rate. Job gains have been strong, on average, in recent months, and the unemployment rate has stayed low."
In the three months since the Fed last raised rates, there have been reports of strong jobs numbers , bullish markets , blockbuster growth in GDP , a rock-bottom unemployment rate and sky-high consumer confidence . And on Wednesday, the Fed raised its forecast for economic growth this year to 3.1 percent from the 2.8 percent it projected in June.
"It's a particularly bright moment ... for the U.S. economy," Fed Chairman Jerome Powell told reporters.
'Charging the US as being nationalist?'
Your 'president' said he is a nationalist.
It doesn't mean what you're implying it means. It means exactly what you know it means. WHITE NATIONALIST.
BULLSHIT! Like usual you've got nothing but liberally charged rhetoric.
A move to France may be helpful .....
