Candace Owens: Hitler Was ‘OK’ Until He Tried to Go Global

WILL SOMMER FEBRUARY 08, 2019

512

Pro-Trump personality Candace Owens described Adolf Hitler’s plan for Germany as initially “OK” while speaking in the same city that the Nazi dictator relentlessly bombed nearly 80 years ago.

The remarks came in newly resurfaced video, taken in December at a London event launching the British chapter of Turning Point USA, the conservative campus group she helps lead. Owens’s comments were first reported on Friday by BuzzFeed News .

Owens was asked by an audience member for her thoughts on the future of nationalist movements. In her response, Owens said “nationalism” has been given a bad rap before pivoting to the Nazi dictator.

“When we say nationalism, the first thing people think about, at least in America, is Hitler. He was a national socialist.” she said.

“If Hitler just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well, OK, fine,” Owens continued, while standing next to Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

“The problem is he wanted, he had dreams outside of Germany. He wanted to globalize, he wanted everybody to be German, everybody to be speaking German, everybody to look a different way. To me, that’s not nationalism. So in thinking about how it could go bad down the line, I don’t really have an issue with nationalism, I really don’t.”

Turning Point USA declined to comment on Owens’s remarks and referred The Daily Beast to Owens herself, who serves as the organization’s communications director.

Asked by The Daily Beast to explain her remarks, Owens called Hitler a “homicidal maniacal globalist” and claimed her response was simply “about why Americans WRONGLY equate the word ‘nationalism’ to Hitler.”

“My final comment is that Hitler was the scum of the earth,” Owens wrote in an email. “As is the publication you write for.”

Owens also stood by her remarks in a Periscope livestream on Friday.

TPUSA has been dogged by racism controversies, even as its success on college campuses and with conservative donors have made both Owens and Kirk stars on the right.

Last October, members of a Turning Point chapter in Florida were revealed to be sharing racist memes in a group chat. In 2017, the New Yorker reported that a high-ranking TPUSA member once wrote “I hate blacks.”

Owens has frequently clashed with other conservative personalities, including Fox News’ Tomi Lahren. Rapper Kanye West, whose endorsement rocketed Owens to fame, eventually distanced himself from her in October.

Despite her politics, Owens has repeatedly insisted that she isn’t “far-right.” After Twitter described her as such in 2018, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey publicly apologized to Owens.

Candace Owens is an internet huckster who is trying (and succeeding) to make money off gullible right wingers.

She does a schtick.   Today it offends millions of people if and when they give her any thought.

Has anyone informed this woman what Hilter thought of blacks, or African-Americans, such as Jesse Owens?

The Nazis, at the time a small political movement, viewed the “Rhineland Bastards” as a threat to the purity of the Germanic race. In his autobiography, Mein Kampf (My Struggle), Hitler charged that “the Jews had brought the Negroes into the Rhineland with the clear aim of ruining the hated white race by the necessarily-resulting bastardization.” African German mulatto (a person of mixed white and black ancestry) children were marginalized in German society, isolated socially and economically, and not allowed to attend university. Racial discrimination prohibited them from seeking most jobs, including service in the military. With the Nazi rise to power they became a target of racial and population policy. By 1937, the Gestapo had secretly rounded up and forcibly sterilized many of them. Some were subjected to medical experiments; others mysteriously “disappeared.”

In other words, when Hitler was a "nationalist" he was a good guy, it was only when he became a "globalist" that he went off the rails.

I wonder if she knows how many people Hitler had killed prior to using his armies outside Germany.

This is what we get when we have right wing media celebrities parading as "experts" on anything.

Although I couldn't open the link, I assume that if such a group of people as Jews for Hitler actually exists, they are either not much different than Jews for Jesus (i.e. not considered to be Jewish) and it would not surprise me if it's an organization of gentiles or a person perpetrating an antisemitic act to smear Jews.  No sane Jew other than a self-loathing one, would praise the animal who wanted to rid the whole world of all Jews, and succeeded in accomplishing half his goal.

The ignorance about Hitler and WWII is shocking.    It doesn't help when certain republicans try to redefine nationalism and how it was used to start the holocaust.  Its why I go crazy when I see people try to imply fascism is far left ideology, its purposefully misinforming for current politics.  So dangerous.

We'll just ignore this part:

Owens called Hitler a “homicidal maniacal globalist”

And write a headline that Hitler was ok.

Another dishonest hit job and a shining example of how the far left has become incapable of discussing any difficult topic with nuance.

Break down the full sentence she actually said:

“If Hitler just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well, OK, fine,”

IF Hitler just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well. IF. Germany was a mess after WWI. Anyone in any country would like their country to be great and run well. Who would call that evil? There's nothing wrong that.

IF

But in fact, that's NOT all that Hitler wanted. Hitler was thinking about racial and ethnic purity for Germany long before he came to power. We know this from the memories of people who were around him and from Mein Kampf. In the real world, Hitler was never OK.

But sure, IF - in some fantasy alternate universe - he had just wanted to fix his country, that would have been fine. But it's not all he wanted.

We can play the same game with Communism. IF everybody was on board with collectivism and IF people weren't motivated by wealth and power, then maybe Communism could work without having to murder and imprison millions of people. But people are the way they are and the only way you can make that system function even a little is via a brutal dictatorship.

We should be able to have a discussion about these things without people freaking out with "She said Hitler was OK!" or "He said Communism works!"

Odd. She didn't say that where he went wrong was wanting to murder Jewish people, black people, disabled people, homosexual people, Gypsies, and so forth.  She said that where he went wrong was trying to apply his ideas outside of Germany.

That whole "wholesale murder is wrong" thing is a pretty important point, don't you think?  Much more of a problem than Hitler being a "globalist", IMO.  Certainly more worthy of mention.

No question. His murderous racism is far more of a failing than him wanting to export German ethnicity. I just don't think Owens was setting out to defend Hitler. She was trying to defend Nationalism. It sounds like the forum was not a conversation so much as answering quick questions from the audience, so unfortunately she didn't get to make that clarification. I doubt very much that Candace Owens supports anything Hitler did (unless we're counting things like bathing or wearing pants in public).

You will turn yourself into a pretzel trying to defend her if you keep it up.

According to the article, she is the one who brought up Hitler. Why? Because her little brain wanted to discredit socialism. She thinks Hitler was a socialist . The audience member asked her about the future of nationalist movements, and her thoughts went to NATIONAL Socialism, the Nazis.  NATIONAL Socialism, NATIONAL Socialism, gee, she thinks, the NATIONAList part of that is good but the Socialist part is not good. How to explain this?  Globalists are evil and Nationalists are good, so let's say Hitler was ok until he went global.

It takes a very limited thought process to come up with that.

I don't need to defend her. That's not my goal. I just find it improbable that she approves of Hitler, especially since,

Asked by The Daily Beast to explain her remarks, Owens called Hitler a “homicidal maniacal globalist” and claimed her response was simply “about why Americans WRONGLY equate the word ‘nationalism’ to Hitler.”

and she went on to say

“My final comment is that Hitler was the scum of the earth,”

How come you don't want to pay any attention to those comments?

Who do you think she is? Some kind of black nazi?

It takes a very limited thought process to come up with that.

I think it was a very limited topic and a very limited exchange, so that's sort of what we get. The way we categorize political concepts lends itself to that sort of thing, also. You have to be willing to deal in nuance or we can't even talk about this stuff.

Hitler's regime certainly shared some qualities with socialist ideology (e.g.: price and wage controls, government control of nominally private corporations, expansion of government as employer, regulation on production). Of course that's not the whole story of the Nazi economy. Unions were banned and big corporations profited at the expense of small businesses.

The Nazi regime also had obvious aspects of nationalism. It would be inaccurate to claim that it was all one or the other. Or neither.

I expect Owens was reacting to some who have implied lately that nationalism in any form inevitably leads to naziism. If it was her intent to say that this isn't necessarily so, I agree with her. Just having things like a name for your country, immigration rules, a unique set of laws, and a flag are all aspects of nationalism. Virtually every nation on Earth shares these qualities without being nazis.

Why would a rational black person support Adolph Hitler when he thought that the world was to be ruled by a white Aryan race? Blacks in Nazi Germany were rounded up and sent to concentration camps.  Do you not remember Hitler's actions when Jesse Owens won a gold medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympic games?

The Nazis, at the time a small political movement, viewed the “Rhineland Bastards” as a threat to the purity of the Germanic race. In his autobiography, Mein Kampf (My Struggle), Hitler charged that “the Jews had brought the Negroes into the Rhineland with the clear aim of ruining the hated white race by the necessarily-resulting bastardization.” African German mulatto (a person of mixed white and black ancestry) children were marginalized in German society, isolated socially and economically, and not allowed to attend university. Of course she wasn't condoning anything Hitler did but since the lefts biggest fear is strong black women having an opinion that doesn't toe the leftist line they will skew her words and attack her. It's particularly galling since the left has no problem has no problem with bigots and admitted Hitler admirers like Louis Farrakhan taking photos with Obama and sharing a stage with Bill Clinton and Al Sharpton.
