Judiciary chairman criticizes fellow Democrat for treading in anti-Semitic 'hate'

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) on Monday condemned fellow Democratic Rep.   Ilhan Omar   (Minn.), calling her tweets a day earlier that suggested a pro-Israel lobbying group was buying off lawmakers "deeply disappointing and disturbing."

Nadler, who is Jewish and, according to   his office , represents one of the most Jewish congressional districts in the country, accused Omar of trafficking in "old anti-Semitic tropes about Jews and money."

"Her words are deeply hurtful and offensive, particularly as they build on a previous comment she made about Jews 'hypnotizing' the world in support of Israel — another old trope born of hate-filled texts like the Protocols of the Elders of Zion," Nadler said in a statement.

“While of course our nation’s leaders are free to debate the relative influence of a particular organization on our country’s policy-making process, or the factors that make our system of governance imperfect, there is an expectation of leaders — particularly those with a demonstrated commitment to the cause of justice and equality — that they would be extremely careful not to tread into the waters of anti-Semitism or any other form of prejudice or hate," he continued. "Rep. Omar failed that test of leadership with these comments."

Nadler is the most prominent Democrat thus far to criticize Omar's tweets.

Rep.   Max Rose   (D-N.Y.) previously   called the comments  "deeply hurtful to Jews" and "unacceptable."

Omar, who has prompted allegations of anti-Semitism with   past comments   critical of Israel, attracted fresh backlash on Sunday after she responded on Twitter to a question about who she "thinks is paying American politicians to be pro-Israel."

"AIPAC!" she replied, a reference to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a pro-Israel lobbying group.

The freshman lawmaker also   retweeted   journalist Glenn Greenwald responding to a story about Rep.  Kevin McCarthy  (R-Calif.) promising "action" toward Omar and Rep.  Rashida Tlaib  (D-Mich.) over their alleged anti-Semitism. She captioned that retweet with a message, "It's all about the Benjamins baby," referring to money.

She later  retweeted   a user who raised concerns with her comments.

Republicans have seized on Omar's tweets to levy allegations of anti-Semitism. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has called on Democratic leadership to discipline Omar and   to speak out   against "anti-Semitic tropes."

Even without the anti-semitism, it should be outside the bounds of professional ethics to go accusing people of bribery without specific evidence.

How is saying a lobby group is paying congress people antisemitic?

They are a lobby group, it is what they do.

Sounds like she is telling the truth.

The answer is right in the article and supplied by another democrat - Jerrold Nadler. "Her words are deeply hurtful and offensive, particularly as they build on a previous comment she made about Jews 'hypnotizing' the world in support of Israel — another old trope born of hate-filled texts like the Protocols of the Elders of Zion," Nadler said in a statement."

BTW, she has since apologized.

In the bigger picture there is a realignment going on in the democratic party. Omar is not alone in her "dislike" of Israel. There was an interesting piece in the NY Times 4 days ago titled "The progressive assault on Israel".

Pelosi has been reluctant to correct this new rep. Jewish Americans have been a significant part of the democratic party ever since 1948, when under President Truman, the US was one of the first to recognize Israel.

David Duke also expressed his support of what she said. jrSmiley_79_smiley_image.gif

In the past five year years, AIPAC has spent more than $14 million lobbying Congress and federal agencies to press its agenda, which includes continuing to ensure U.S. military aid to Israel and imposing new sanctions on Iran if international negotiators fail to reach a deal on Tehran's nuclear program.

.

The group also cultivates ties with Capitol Hill by sponsoring dozens of trips for lawmakers and their aides each year to Israel. In 2013, its foundation funded 77 trips, totaling nearly $1.4 million in value, according to a USA TODAY analysis of travel data compiled by Political MoneyLine.

.

Although it does not endorse candidates nor contribute directly to them, AIPAC encourages its members to develop relationships with lawmakers and to donate to their campaigns. Politicians on both sides of the aisle long have courted the organization.

In recent years, AIPAC has found itself competing with other voices in the American Jewish community — most notably J Street, an organization founded in 2008 to offer a more liberal stance.

This is the same dingbat that tweeted that we should defund the DHS after complaining that TSA wasn't getting paid. jrSmiley_10_smiley_image.gif

This is the Democrats shame. I'm all for new blood in congress but the left electing these left wing nut jobs is Hillaryious.

You have to be totally clueless to support this woman and her ilk like AOC.

It's interesting to me to watch and, read these comments about a member of Congress who happens to be Muslim, (a religious belief), expressing that she thinks another religion might be using their influence to get support for their Country Israel through an organization and, calling the organization out for it. At least that is how I see what's going on here.

Now, consider this, if it was a Muslim organization and, Representative Nadler had come out and, claimed that they were seeking help on Capital Hill for support of their religion or, country would you be attacking Nadler the same way? I doubt it. And, yes, it is relevant to this issue. She has been called a Nazi by Bad Fish, the fact is Bad Fish she is a Muslim, not a Nazi. She has reason to dislike a Jewish organization paying for favors from Congress and, as Americans who are supposedly Constitutionalists everyone on this seed who has been bad mouthing her should be concerned as well.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

If we allow any one religion to gain favor through legislation then we are going against our own Constitution, allowing any religion to Lobby Congress is wrong, allowing an organization connected to a religion to lobby Congress is wrong, according to the Constitution.

Going back to the Muslim question I asked, if Nadler had done such a thing, I think that most of you attacking Ms. Omar on here would be praising Nadler and, demanding that all Muslims in the U.S. be tarred and, feathered and, run out of the country on a rail.

Omar's first real political lesson, after being roundly and publically slapped down by Pelosi and a host of others.

Representative Ilhan Omar, who has been battling charges of anti-Semitism for weeks , apologized on Monday for insinuating that American support for Israel is fueled by money from a pro-Israel lobbying group — a comment that drew swift and unqualified condemnation from fellow Democrats on Monday, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes,” she said in a statement that she released on Twitter . “My intention is never to offend my constituents or Jewish Americans as a whole.”

She added, “I unequivocally apologize.”

Better late than never?
