I can empathize.... closest I've ever came was a 200 yrd par 3, light 3 wood put me 3 ft away (first time I ever made the green in one, I usually overshoot) and missed the put for the birdie.........
Most people know that when a golfer sinks his ball in the hole one stroke under par, it's called a "Birdie", but do they know that if a golfer sinks his ball in the hole TWO strokes under par it's called an "Eagle"? The only opportunity for a hole in one would be on a par 3 hole, where a good golfer would have the tee shot land on the green. If a hole in one happens, it is two under par, so it is an "Eagle".
And, that an ace (hole-in-one) on a par 5 is called a Condor - there have been 4 recognized since 1995.
Wow - what a friggin' drive. Now I can see why USGA is lengthening the fairways.
Three weeks ago, Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy were hitting drives 380 yards PLUS in the WGC Tournament in Mexico City. Justin Thomas only hit one over 360.
If golf equipment and physical strength continue at this trend, hell, that 10,000 yard course in Minnesota is gonna be short.
That's one reason that I don't play golf any longer...The courses were just to short for my over powering drives....Once I crossed the 400 yard mark on my drives the game lost interest for me.

LOL, this can apply to golfers as well. My brother in law is a horrible cheater at golf...One time he hit deep into the trees and you could hear his shots hitting the trees trying to get back in the fairway. When he finally did he three putted....He looked at us with a straight face and said...I pared the hole..
It was a frickin par 4 and he had three putts and at least 4 or 5 tree hitting shots plus his drive and approach to the hole...The next time we played we handed him a calulator and said to him, ''you can keep a better count of your strokes using this''.....He quit cheating after that...LOL

You know, that's the lightweight, super-strong metal used in club heads whose superior impact power has made it possible for older or less experienced golfers to hit shots into hazards, fairway bunkers, water areas and maintenance sheds they never dreamed of reaching before.
I play with a group once a month called the State University Golf Association. We have one fella who's in the 3rd flight (highest handicappers) who constantly "claims" lower scores. So, the entire group (90) have started to help him keep track of his score. At first, he got pizzed - but now, he's turned it into a game - such as - "Hey, I got a 6" and someone else will say, "No, that was an 8" (with a big smile) and someone else with counter "No, he actually got a birdie" and he'll finally say - "Nah, just a bogey" and everyone will grin and write him down for a bogey.
Really a great guy - works in LE down in El Paso, but I swear, he couldn't count the fingers on his one hand and get the number right.

Hell, as nervous and excited as I was, I probably would've missed a 1 incher. 'Course, I still can't make 14 inch putts which sux.

Actually, what I had was called a "lag" - the first quarter of a four putt.
I played pebble beach once and was working on a 120.
By the time we got to the 18th, my partners were pretty evidently disgusted with me.
So, naturally as they gathered and finished their score cards I was 35 yards downhill from the green and could only see the top of the flag.
I chipped it up to the green expecting to make at leas 2 more putts but it ran straight to the cup like it was on a string.
I still had to pick up the bar tab, lol.

Do you know what is even more difficult than a hole in one? It's a double eagle which is a 2 on a par 5...
Yeah, I knew that. That really requires a combo of skill (accurate long shots) and/or a hell of a lot of luck.
