The Second Coming
“Amy and I are happy to share with you that I am running to serve you as the next president of the United States of America

Beto O'Rourke (AKA Beta Dork) is now in the race for President. The man who tried to topple Senator Ted Cruz, spending nearly $80 Million in the process, will now join a crowded field in the Democratic primaries, becoming the 15th democrat to run for President. It is good news for Republican Sen. John Cornyn (the other Texas Senator), up for re-election in 2020.

Vanity Fair Magazine already has him featured prominently on their April cover:
(Perhaps a coincidence the media rolls out that cover at the time of his announcement) (Does the media realize how obvious they are?)

5c8a67582400006d054bd077.png.cf.jpg

Like most of the other democratic candidates O'Rourke is for abortion rights and green energy.

What else does he bring to the contest?

Not much of substance, but he is another progressive messiah. He went to Columbia, likes Coffee shops, reads poetry and appears to buy his clothes in the little boys department. Charisma is in the eye of the beholder and to progressives, that's it! However, his lack of stated positions may be an asset now. With so many playing to the far left, he can grab the center lane before Biden decides to get into the race.

His entry into the race will most likely siphon off a lot of donations from other candidates. Does anyone doubt that? Another issue that will figure into the calculations of Joe Biden. Biden may need to pull the trigger soon. It may not matter at this point.

The President got to watch O'Rourke on TV making his announcement. When asked about the democrats newest candidate, the President gave his impression of O'Rourke:

“I think he’s got a lot of hand movement. I've never seen so much hand movement," Trump said. "And I said, 'Is he crazy, or is that just the way he acts?'"

Trump dosen't get it yet...

Beto is the "second coming"!

What do you dislike about him ?

Where do I begin?

How about here:

"Democrat Beto O'Rourke said on Thursday that if it was up to him he would "absolutely" tear down the existing border barriers on the U.S.-Mexico border."

Just another to add to the Democrat clown car.

And the Dems thought the Republican clown car was overflowing to replace Obama.  The left ain't seen nothing yet from their own side.

Lets face it, you' all gonna miss all those LIES!

The Playmates, The Pornstars, The VICTIMS, The Lawyers, The DRAMA !

Normal people, not so much.

And he's also just another far left liberal.

But is he?  I don't know.

He reminds me of Bill Clinton, in the way that you never really knew what Bill was actually for or against.

CNBC calls him a moderate, albeit they are using the current looney left core of the Democratic party as the point of reference.

The thing is, even if he's only partially a centrist, he's currently the only one in that space at all.

It's going to whittle down very quickly.

Biden leads the polling, and he's not even in the race yet.  Beto overtook Warren and Booker shortly before he announced, and that's likely to extend now that he's official.

If you were not here in Texas last year, I'm not sure it's possible to understand what a force of nature Beto O'Rourke is.

Bernie Sanders got 13 million votes in primaries last year.  Beto got over 4 million for senate....in Texas alone.  That's TEXAS....where a Democrat hasn't won a senate race since Lloyd Bentsen in 1988.

The relief is that with Beto running and Biden possibly coming in soon, we have much less risk of the "anybody but Trump" brigade managing to get a complete whacko elected.

Having lived in Texas a couple of times and being a ''Winter Texan'' I try to keep up with the political climate in Texas.

I found that even though Beto lost to Cruz the amount of votes he received was quite startling. Do not underestimate this guy.

I agree that Cruz is unlikable among many other things. That, in no way, dimishes Beto's viability as a presidential candidate.

Remember, the conservative saint, Ronald Reagan, lost a few before he won the presidency.

Let me promise you, underestimating Beto is like underestimating the Tom Brady in the playoffs.

Meh.  Just more stupid nonsense.

I'm 52 years old, and I've spent most of my life as a competitive athlete or coach.  I learned 40 years ago to ignore "smack talk".

Most of what comes out of Trump's mouth is bullshit.  That's actually been the case since at least 1980, and maybe before that.  So when I have somebody who continually talks bullshit, I stop listening to what they SAY and start watching what they DO.

What he's actually done isn't that much and isn't really terrible.  And most of what he says...he can't do anyway.

So I've stopped caring what he says.  There is no reason to dwell on words that have no connection to reality.

No, it should only concern the emotional, hysterical, and uneducated.

Out of curiosity, would you panic like this if he threatened to wave a magic wand and turn you into a sea otter?

He's the president of the United States and we are nobody.

He's the President of the United States.  I am a person who chooses not to be afraid, and certainly not afraid of nonsense.   You make whatever decision you like.

You talk like he is a drunk blabbing on at the corner bar. He's "harmless".

Your comical fixation with Donald Trump is the well-documented joke of this forum.  You have repeatedly belabored the point of his lack of honesty, yet you don't seem to be able to help yourself believing and assigning huge meaning to every word out of his mouth.  How does that work, exactly?

We're talking about a man who can't build his wall, can't declare an emergency, can't repeal the ACA and can't close the border.   Yet in the red haze of your hysteria, you would have us believe he can somehow declare war on the American people.  That's a new level of batshit crazy.

Do detail for us what he can actually do?  Not say.....DO.

Jack, don't vote next year. You don't care enough about the office.

You oscillate between hysteria about the fact Trump is lying and hysteria about the subject of his lies.  The only commonality is your irrational hysteria and the Nazi-like demand that everyone share it.

Well...sorry...I don't share it.  I'm sure that when you rise to power I'll be executed or sent to some stalag somewhere as an infidel who refused to participate in your holy war.  So be it.  In the meantime I'm going to kick back with a beer and enjoy the good economy while it lasts.

I got a feeling Texas is a red state but not so much a Trump state?

Could Beto have beaten Cornyn if he ran for Senate again?

I got a feeling Texas is a red state but not so much a Trump state?

Meh.  Maybe.  It's a huge state and it's very different from place to place, so it's kind of hard to say.  The mayors of all three major cities are Democrats.  But the last Democrat we had as governor was Ann Richards, and the last Dem to win a senate seat was Lloyd Bentsen.  There tends to be a sort of urban/rural divide, but even that isn't always the case.

Trump beat Hillary here by 10 points.  Here is the Trump map from 2016:

800px-Texas_Presidential_Election_Results_2016.svg.png

But Cruz could only beat Beto by 2.5%.

Could Beto have beaten Cornyn if he ran for Senate again?

In 2020, absolutely.  In 2018 Beto had to overcome being an unknown throughout most of the state.  That's not the case now.  Cornyn is more popular than Cruz, but much less controversial, and as such both his followers and detractors are much less energized.

Beto generates energy like a fusion reactor.  People turn out by the thousands...and give him money.  Touchy-feely types positively swoon over him because he generally doesn't badmouth his opposition.  He knows they hate all that negativity, so he doesn't do it.  They tend to be scared easily, and he makes them feel safe.

He's also good at keeping his policies very vague, so there isn't really anything concrete to criticize.  Very reminiscent of Bill Clinton that way.

O'Roark harkens back to the good old days of Texas politics when Texas was known for smart genial goodhearted progressive pols like Lloyd Benson and Ann Richards and not for angry numb nut extremist right wingers like Louis Gohmert and Ted Cruz. Texas need another Molly Ivans to speak up. She would have loved Beto....

And as the liberals like to say "a privileged" one at that...with a net worth of $9 Million.

cnn brought it up 52 times in one day, because biological categories are what matter to many democrats, not accommlishments or ideas.

Thus would follow the obvious question which Tucker Carlson keeps asking: "Then why would democrats choose a white male?"

Just the face du jour for the moment, they'll find someone prettier soon enough. From my point of view the only somewhat sensible person they have out there to date is also the youngest and most likely will be swallowed up by the anointed ones.

Need a candidate of substance and ideas, not another pretender to the throne.
