Fox News contributor Robert Jeffress expresses support for the death penalty: Innocent people are executed but so "was Jesus Christ himself"

ROBERT JEFFRESS (FOX NEWS CONTRIBUTOR): Let's admit, the death penalty is sometimes inequitably and even mistakenly applied. We know that. And we ought to do everything we can to prevent that. But I remind people, the greatest example of an innocent person being executed was Jesus Christ himself. He was totally innocent, and yet in spite of that, the New Testament never calls for an end to the death penalty. Instead, Paul said in Romans 13, God has given government the power of the sword, the ability to execute in order to bring punishment against those who do evil.

If we had a theocracy, Jeffress might have a slight point. We don't and he don't.
Our laws are not subject to approval by the New Testament or any other part of the Bible.
I'm not sure he has one even then.
I turned it off when he said that the death penalty was the affirmation of life............
an eye for an eye....
smh.
You had it on??
I feel obligated to review all of the ( deleted) seeds
Wait, What?
Why do you think we have a death penalty? That is certainly one of the reasons.
I believe according to Christian doctrine that Jesus "allowed" himself to be crucified. This was the "plan" of God, that His Son would sacrifice his life for the sins of humanity.
I don't see what "innocence" has to do with it. If you plan something, you are not really a "victim" are you?
I would think about changing/moving this to religion and ethics.
It's not news or politics.
Media Matters is not a religion/ethics site, it is a news site.
Except it is all four. The cross is on the march, wrapped in a flag on the path of revenge and fear.
I really don't care about the source as much as the content.
The pastor's views throughout the video are proselytizing.
Except Jeffress is wrong. Jesus was not innocent. Jesus posed a threat to The Money Changers, the status quo of the church's selective discriminations and the church's means of collecting the wealth from the faithful. So, they demanded Pilate execute Him. And in doing so the Money Changers, inside heretics of the church and the cadre of the Jeffress class to remain in opulent influence for over two thousand years. Lucifer smiles. He was the engineer. 'christianity' is dead. It now belongs to porn star bangers, billionaires and crooked politicians.
Well he's technically not wrong, but I think it's worth observing that ancient civilizations didn't really have either the inclination or the resources to be imprisoning someone for life. At the very least, they could be slave labor, but you might not want to take the chance of a maniac escaping. Simpler to kill them and have done with it.
