Meet Piper the Airport dog

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

Wildlife Control at Cherry Capital Airport

K-9 Piper’s function is to increase safety by responding directly to reports of wildlife and conducting regular patrols. He spends most of his time chasing birds and other wildlife away from the runways and taxiways. Border Collies are perfect for this type of work because they are natural herders.

I was driving by this airport the other day and thought about Piper.   So meet Piper.

I met Piper years ago when working at this airport.   Piper passed away last year.

He was good boy!    What a great dog.

I drive by everyday.

Piper was our best home town celebrity. His owner brought him to my buddies birthday party after his wife asked him to.

He is a far better celebrity than that fat POS Michael Moore who thinks he is something special here.

What a great story and great dog....The airport guardian to say the least.

So sorry to hear that Piper walked on...His ability to sit next to a hovering copter and sit there as the Blue Angles taxi by..Amazing.

Has the airport found another dog to follow in Piper paw steps?

My friend knows the owner Brian Edwards and he said he is not looking and don't think he can replace the dog, he was a one of a kind.

I'm not even sure if he works at the airport anymore.

Great video, thanks for posting this KD...

Dogs can do amazing things from being a K9 paratrooper to being service dogs for vets...

American Humane takes shelter dogs and trains them to be service dogs for disabled vets. They find the dogs, pay for the training, which is considerable, and all other expenses. Then they are matched with a deserving vet. FREE OF CHARGE and vet care for life as well.

This program is saving two lives, the shelter dogs and the vets.

Take a minute to read about it.

Thanks for sharing Piper's story, Sparty On. I hope they'll train another canine friend. Dogs are great in so many ways!

I agree with kavika. It would take a special kind of dog to be around all that noise and activity.

Seldom got that far north, and only once by plane, so I never got a chance to meet him.  Sounds like I lost the chance to meet someone special.  Great story Sparty.
