Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Throws Some Shade at GOP: They’re ‘Basically Dwight from The Office’

Rep.  Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez  threw some shade at Republicans on Sunday, comparing the GOP from the character Dwight from  The Office.

AOC started off the Twitter thread talking about the super-rich, saying its like “10 people.”

US GDP is at an all-time high. As a nation, we are more prosperous than we ever have been.

But that’s simply not the lived truth. Even now, I’m paid similar to a doctor or corporate lawyer - many who‘d think they are “rich,” but it’s nowhere near what we actually mean in policy.

When we say “tax the rich,” we mean nesting-doll yacht rich. For-profit prison rich. Betsy DeVos, student-loan-shark rich.

Trick-the-country-into-war rich. Subsidizing-workforce-w-food-stamps rich.

Because THAT kind of rich is simply not good for society, & it’s like 10 people.

Her comments got some blowback on social media.

I've seen criticism of "like 10 people." The ten richest Americans are worth $730 billion. The fourteen richest American families (excluding the Koch brothers, so no double-counting) are worth $511 billion. Together, they're worth more than 60% of Americans combined.

AOC then replied to the pushback by slamming the GOP for ‘fact-checking’ her humor and lacking social intelligence: “This is a technique of the GOP, to take dry humor + sarcasm literally and ‘fact check’ it. Like the “world ending in 12 years’ thing, you’d have to have the social intelligence of a sea sponge to think it’s literal.”

She added: “But the GOP is basically Dwight from  The Office  so who knows.”

She is, of course, referring to Dwight Schrute, the socially stunted employee of Dunder-Mifflin played by  Rainn Wilson  in the long-running sitcom.

I don't comment much about AOC, because she is not an important figure at this time and because I don't give credence to right wing hysteria over her.

When we say “tax the rich,” we mean nesting-doll yacht rich. For-profit prison rich. Betsy DeVos, student-loan-shark rich.

Trick-the-country-into-war rich. Subsidizing-workforce-w-food-stamps rich.

But I did seed this article because it shows very much why people like her. She acts like a young person. She is sarcastic. She is not afraid of speaking out, and she is not afraid to go after certain sacred cows, for example great wealth.

Millennials will see her tweets and say "yes"

Why are conservatives so terrified of AOC? She's just one of a whole bunch of new Representatives. There's no logic to your being so afraid...

You're asking the wrong question.   No one is afraid of her.   Quit the opposite actually.   The question should be why so many liberals appear to be elevating her to some kind of iconic status when her behavior borders on buffoonish much of the time.

None of this surprises me.   She got elected in one of the most liberal districts in the US.   She's the voice of many properly indoctrinated socialists looking for more free shit.   No .... i should say they know they deserve more free shit.   Her and the Bern are their hero's.   Two peas in a pod.

Her shtick will fail miserably soon enough though.     One wonders if her followers will survive the coming Cortepocalypse

Why do liberals confuse terror for out and out disgust. She is the laughing stock of the progressive liberal left. It's people like her that will cause the Democrats to lose the next elections.

Terrified??

No way.

She's an empty headed liberal twit and airhead only good for comedic relief

And has become the laughing stock of

what's left of the deranged Democrat party.

We love her and hope she continues to prattle on endlessly about nothing at all.

Means more people will roll their eyes and shake their heads as they rapid run away from  the democrats. jrSmiley_80_smiley_image.gif

Of course you are. If you weren't, you wouldn't bother with her.

It's easy to identify the people who frighten the right: they're the subject of hit-pieces in right wing media. Look at the number of seeds you've dedicated to AOC.

Pelosi is the perfect example. She is the subject of incessant, vehement, vicious opprobrium... almost always devoid of facts. Because she is so very effective at her job.

Lack of arguments is not a problem for right wing media. Character assassination is standard operating procedure

PLEASE keep supporting everything AOC!

I'm not familiar with her program. She's a fresh face, but if the right wasn't giving her so much publicity, people like me, far from her NY district, wouldn't even know she exists.

The only new House Dems I know are the ones you're promoting.

You seem to think that many are afraid of AOC.   Which is a serious miscalculation for what's really going on here with AOC.

My point is one persons "hatchet job" is another persons manifesto for life.    That said yeah, i do disagree.   NT articles clearly lean left in quantity.   The front page is regularly flooded with it.    And while both sides do it, more is clearly coming from the left.   You should know.   You're one of the flooders.

Social media warrior Barbie is at it again.

Seems facts only matter when the left says they do; which in her case is never.

She doesn't think she is rich now? No wonder she doesn't think anything about siphoning money from her campaign funds to a shell business/PAC that pays her boyfriend an ample salary.

ut I did seed this article because it shows very much why people like her.

Her net approval rating is minus 13.

Chuck Schumer is more popular and only has a minus 12 net rating.

The only people who like her are the type of people who think cancelling Amazon's tax breaks gave New York  14 billion to spend on subways.  Not a lot of brain power in that group.

I believe that the chronic misconception that somehow the GOP is "afraid" of AOC is hilarious and deeply misguided.

We love AOC and hope she becomes the face of the great Democratic Party sometime soon. A true leader is needed for that particular clown show, and AOC will make a fine lead clown one day.

"Unemployment is so low right now because everyone is working 2 or 3 jobs".

"We will all be dead in 12 years".

"A 17-year-old can walk in and buy an assault weapon"

Such brilliance can not be simply ignored.

Haha!  Ocasio-Cortez cracks me up .. I have a son that is 27, so it must be their ages?  For some reason he thinks comparing individuals to fictional character in a sitcom is some sort of put down as well .. I really laugh when one needs clarification of who the character being referenced is.   I never know who my son is referencing - Haha.. he whips out his phone to show me a clip … : )

She is, of course, referring to Dwight Schrute, the socially stunted employee of Dunder-Mifflin played by Rainn Wilson in the long-running sitcom.

It is rather comical to see posts from my nieces and nephews in social media...all showing how their lives compare to cartoons...or fictional characters on TV.

This is the era that parents protested to remove Tom and Jerry cartoons because they were too violent. Now I totally understand why if they must constantly compare their lives and others to fiction.

We should all know by now that we shouldn't take anything she says as serious...unless she really means it...but doesn't really...but might...well, maybe it was sarcasm...err dry humor...nope, serious...like for realz.
