What would you choose?
"We all aspire to be something..."

So, simple question...

If you could choose to be any being, what would you choose? Fictional? Non-fictional? Fantasy? Science fiction? Over the eons of time, what would you choose to live as? Mammal, reptile, amphibian... Take your pick...

No Manitou? I mean, the movie was horrible but the spirit was phenomenal. My dearly departed was Native American...said that, that spirit was one to be feared...not sure how accurate that was...few bottles of red wine and all that.

Kavika
6.1.1  Kavika   replied to  MrFrost @6.1    2 weeks ago

All three are manitou's Mr. Frost and all three of these manitou's should be feared.

In fact the Wiindigo (Windego/Wendigo) is so feared and evil that there is a mental disease named the Wiindigo Phychosis.

MrFrost
6.1.2  author  MrFrost  replied to  Kavika @6.1.1    2 weeks ago

Ok, got it... So "manitou" is just Native American for spirit? Or bad spirit? Like I said, my wife and I never really got into it much, so I am not clear.

Kavika
6.1.3  Kavika   replied to  MrFrost @6.1.2    2 weeks ago

Actually the word, manitou, is from the Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) language and means ''spirit''....Used as manitou it is simply a spirit, neither good or bad.

Gitchi Manitou means the ''Great Spirit'' or more accurately ''Great Mystery''...

Maji manitou means evil spirit.

BTW, there is no Native American language. There are over 500 native languages, each unique. I speak both Anishinaabe and Michif/Cree but I cannot understand Cherokee or hundreds of the other native languages. I can understand some of the languages from the Algonquin language group which includes Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) such as Blackfoot, Arapaho, Cree, etc.

I can understand Cherokee much better than I can speak it.

However, 'Hand Language', or hand gestures, work well in communicating with most all other Tribes when one does not know the language of others. Same as when traveling abroad and a person does not know the language of the country they are in.

The Cherokee language is related to that of the Iroquois.

Was born and now live in Shawnee county but lived most of my life in Osage county (just next door). Spent most summers at Camp Chippewa. Used to drive a Dakota. Now driving a Tacoma. One of my old partners in crime was mostly Indian. His dad and grandparents were full blooded Cherokee and his mom is/was a drop-dead gorgeous swede.

Not sure I actually have a point here.

I've often said that the Hindus have it wrong.  If reincarnation existed, you wouldn't start as an animal and work up to being human.  You'd be human and then, once you had become a good enough human, you'd be reincarnated as a dog or cat living with someone like me.

I can't think of a character I'd like to be.  A bald eagle would be pretty cool.  Mostly I'd like the power to teleport.  Lunch on a beach in Greece before I have to cut my grass on a Saturday?

Dear Friend Mr. Frost: During the time of Beit Rishon or Beit Shaynee (First or Second Temple in ancient Israel) I would like to have been the Kohen Gadol at Yom Kippur n the Kodesh ha Kodeshim.

Prior to the Day of Atonement, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar, the Great Priest would consume only dairy, wear white, and do other things for ritual purification. On the Day of Days, he would go into the Temple to the Holy of Holy's. The most sacred spot on this planet for us Jewish People.

Having shed his sins by repentance and atonement he would stand before the G-d of Israel in purity and say the otherwise unspeakable Divine Name.

Imagine having that kind of proximity to the Divine Presence?

Having even once had that experience for folks like me two things would be true.

First, all else in life would be an anti-climax.

Next, it would motivate me to double down and go all out to do all the good possible for anyone who wants it.

Religion out of gratitude.

Since in seven decades that hasn't happened yet, I will still do all I can for anyone who wants and needs it, on their terms.

"If not now, when"? ("Eem lo akshav, as matai")? {Rabbi Hillel}.

Being blessed with a wonderful wife, son, daughter, extended family, grandchildren; and good friends I remain motivated to best serve my G-d by being of service to any and all who ask.

Again, religion out of gratitude.

Rabbi Daniel Goldstein (of blessed memory) the one who ordained me and granted me the Doctor of Divinity used to tell me, following the conclusion of morning prayers together "Today let's make the lives of as many others as we can better. Our Master of it all (Rabbeynu shel Oylam) wants to assist us to help others".

He nailed how best to live life.

Peace and Abundant Blessings to One and All.

I'd also like to switch minds with a cat for 10 or 15 minutes, because I think it would be fascinating to see things from their perspective and understand what it's like.

I would want the switch back to myself to happen automatically, because once the cat was in my mind, it wouldn't switch back if it could help it.  Opposable thumbs that can open cans of food and doors?  It would not give those up willingly.

I'd really have to fine tune this wish.  Instead of switching, I'd just be able to eavesdrop on the cat's mind but it would still be the cat. I can't imagine what my cat would do in those 15 minutes in my head, but I'm sure it wouldn't be anything I would appreciate.

Yes, but there are times when you can see their little minds working ... or when they're happily chirping and bouncing around ... or even just figuring out how something without language decides it wants to do something, or what it means when it talks to me and it's not trying to get fed or have the door opened.   One minute it's snuggling with me, then it gets up and goes to the front door, clearly having decided it wants to go outside.  Or one cat would come to me when it lost its mouse - it knew that I would come with it and find its mouse.
