Mortality and, other things

I've been waiting to say anything about why I haven't been on as much the past month and, now it seems is the time, I have all the info I need to tell the story without any holes in it. I was diagnosed with stage 1 cancer of the throat three weeks ago and, I've been waiting to see if it was anywhere else in the old body but, I got lucky, it's only in the throat so, with radiation for the next five weeks, five days a week it should be taken care of.

Prayers and, kindness would be appreciated during that time but, I'll take what I can get. I start radiation treatment tomorrow at 1 in the afternoon.

Oh Galen. What a rollercoaster ... I begin to read and my heart grows heavy. I begin to feel helpless. Then I see they caught it early! That gave me hope. I realized then that helplessness is not the same thing as hopelessness. I don't just hope this is just a blip in your health history, I'm positive with the early diagnosis, your innate sense of determination and with the love of your family and friends that this daunting time will soon be in the rearview mirror of your life. I love you, and kick this throat cancer's ass. I'm afraid the disease has no idea who it's dealing with.

I send you this Native American prayer: “May the sun bring you new energy by day, may the moon softly restore you by night, may the rain wash away your worries, may the breeze blow new strength into your being, may you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life.”

Love you.

POSITIVE THINKING!!!  You are going to beat it.  A friend of mine who preached it and practised it gave her a long life without re-occurrence.  My sister-in-law preached and practised positive thinking and was in remission for about 40 years, surviving breast cancer almost to age 80.  POSITIVE THINKING!!!  From what you've written above, I believe you ARE thinking positively, and you have good reason to do so.

Hi Galen,

I am so sorry to hear about the cancer, but the good news is that they got it early. I know someone who had stage 2 throat cancer but had the same treatment ( just longer) and is now 10+ years later cancer free. So let's keep our fingers crossed for the same outcome.

Stay positive!

Wishing you all the best and know that the community is here for you as am I.

Dear Friend Galen Marvin Ross: Amen (So be it).

We look forward to your gracing us with your presence and wisdom for many years to come.

Recall that as a Chaplain my role is to respect the values, beliefs and lifestyles of any and all who seek Pastoral Care.

Never worry about us being moved in diverse ways personally.

That will not affect whatever you need from me.

Always what you need and want, only on the terms that are meaningful to you.

P&AB.

I'll be back tomorrow, 7/19, today was pretty good, I've learned that I lost 9lbs. so that's a blessing. The treatments seem to be working but, I won't know until they decide to take more pictures and, no you gross MFers, I'm not going to post them.

I won't give up without a fight. I haven't missed a session with radiation since I started, that's why I get so tired but, a nap and, some rest with my feet up and, I'm just fine.
