Looking pretty good. For some reason the music gave me goosebumps. I guess I have more nostalgia for the first one than I realized. Cheezy as hell, but still super fun. Here's hoping this one is too (super fun, that is, not cheesy).

I still love "The Outsiders". It was required reading for my sophomore English class, and we watched the movie, too. I think it's the one book my son and I both liked. I can't seem to get him to like reading in general, but he enjoyed that one.
That movie was like a "who's who" of future Hollywood. Cruise, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, Diane Lane, Matt Dillon, Emilio Estevez, Ralph Macchio - all there, before they were famous. I don't think the Brat Pack was quite a thing yet.
I loved that movie. Timothy Hutton, Sean Penn, George C Scott.
Me, too. My favorite scene is when they are in the munitions warehouse and Sheriff Billy Joe Bad Ass tries to arrest Cadet Moreland. There's nothing like a well-synchronized 'how do you like me now?' moment.
One has to wonder how there's any glitter left in the world at all. Seems some of those 80s fantasy movies should have depleted our supply for decades.

Yes. I don't think most of us realized just how scary that cult can be until the Brooke Shields thing, or his marriage to Katie Holmes and the rumors about her pregnancy, labor, and delivery. When she divorced him by basically running away and hiding, Suri in tow, I think people finally figured out just how far gone he was.
I am no expert on helmets though I guess they could set the date to any time between then and now and just unage people digitally ala Brad Pitt in The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button...
Tom Cruise is arguably the greatest action movie star of all time. I'm not particularly a Top Gun fan but I'm sure this movie will more than satisfy the audience.
I saw the last Mission Impossible movie (last summer?) and it was just jaw droppingly good. If Cruise is involved , a film will deliver the thrills.
OK so first let me put this out there. In the original, he was flying F14's. My dad helped design that plane, so for him, that movie is timeless. Now what will he be flying? Whatever it is, Dad will be disappointed.
Oh, I know. But when you go to the Museum of Aviation here on LI, you should hear them talk about the Tomcat. Best plane ever made. but then again, we all may be old.
for me its just something about the tomcat and the eagle look so much alike and both were the best for what they were designed to do in that age and time , and that's meant to not take anything away from the other , even if I am partial to AF planes due to service. but seeing either of them come over the flightline kicking in afterburners and going straight up, yeah that makes the ticker kick it up a notch .
Now what will he be flying? Whatever it is, Dad will be disappointed.
That was a Tomcat in the very last scene of the trailer. No idea what it was doing or who was flying it, though. Pretty sure the F-18 is going to be the star of this one. I think a P-51 makes a cameo about half way through the trailer as well. And then we've got Maverick wearing one of those rigid collar flight suits, like the old high altitude test pilots wore. Mysteries abound.

The f-14 has been retired for a while, from the trailer it looks like an f-18 hornet , not sure which designation though.

I did notice the Tomcat in that last scene and I too was wondering where they were going with that. Maybe the story is told in flashbacks too.
