‘The Wire’ Creator David Simon Calls Trump “Racist Moron” Over Baltimore Comments

“The Wire” creator   David Simon   unloaded on President   Donald Trump   Saturday, after the president called   Baltimore   a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” while criticizing Democratic Rep.   Elijah Cummings .

Simon, a former   Baltimore Sun   reporter, documented life in Baltimore over five seasons of his HBO series. While the critically-acclaimed drama didn’t exactly paint Charm City in a positive light with its brazen drug dealing, out-of-control violence and rampant political corruption, Simon pushed back against Trump by calling him a “race-hating fraud.”

“If this empty-suit, race-hating fraud had to actually visit West Baltimore for five minutes and meet any of the American citizens who endure there, he’d wet himself,” Simon tweeted.

The Emmy-winning writer continued to tweet about the issue throughout the day.

“The president is ‘literally’ a simplistic, racist moron. I am ‘literally’ the guy writing stuff about the last century of U.S. policy, about the drug war and mass incarceration, about Brown v. and white flight, about all of modern U.S. history to which your kind stays mute,” he replied to someone who described Baltimore as a “sh**hole.”

Simon’s former employer, The Baltimore Sun, also condemned  Trump’s comments in a  blistering op-ed  titled, “Better to have a few rats than to be one.”

Baltimore-gate erupted when Trump attacked Rep. Cummings on Twitter.

“Rep, Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA,” Trump   tweeted   Saturday morning.

“As proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cumming District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place,” Trump added in a   second tweet .

Former first lady   Michelle Obama   also weighed in on Trump’s Baltimore comments. She didn’t directly address POTUS, but she did post a video on Twitter to shine a spotlight on a positive aspect of the city. The clip shows off Baltimore’s Lethal Ladies — a local STEP team she watched perform in 2017.

In honor of National Dance Day today, Mrs. Obama wrote: “I’m so proud of you all — and everyone who’s dancing today!”

BROWN, BLACK, WHITE

these problems exist in 90plus % of America.

The demographics are apparent to those who wish to address the problems with respect to those demographics and the deep-seated issues they are dealing with.

What does demographics have to do with it? I have seen the same things said about San Francisco and Los Angeles, but I have not heard that the observation was racist. Here's a story from just two weeks ago (but before Trump's comments). Strangely, no national hysteria over racism.

Study: LA, California cities 'overrun' by rat infestations

It becomes racist when not 'pointing' it out, but simply pointing, with no constructive motivation other than to point.

That doesn't make it racist. If you want to call it trash talk, divisive, not useful, "meant to incite" as you say, etc., that's fine. But I see no evidence that it's specifically racist .

Because if you only point out the places with predominantly non-white communities without including the white "ghettos", then it appears you are making a statement about race and not just about poverty or leadership.

OK, well that hasn't been his history. He has enthusiastically criticized San Francisco on multiple occasions and I don't think most would consider that a predominantly non-white community.

Speaking of failing badly, has anyone seen what is happening to Nancy Pelosi’s district in San Francisco. It is not even recognizeable lately. Something must be done before it is too late. The Dems should stop wasting time on the Witch Hunt Hoax and start focusing on our Country! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 28, 2019

He has also enthusiastically criticized London - a city pretty well known to be very white.

Trump calls London mayor a 'disaster' after a spate of killings

So, if it's your contention that Trump criticizes black cities but not white cities, that is simply wrong.

In fact, he has a long history of criticizing white people and places. So, it's not about race, is it.

It's right here:

The President is the duck, and the "empty-suit, race hating fraud" are examples of how he looks, swims and quacks. We currently have President Donald Duck, if duck were a euphemism for "complete racist bigot who has no shame".

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

Is this your way of acknowledging that if your city has had numerous documentaries calling it a rat infested shithole it is probably a rat infested shithole?

“Rep, Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA,” Trump tweeted Saturday morning. “As proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cumming District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place,” Trump added in a second tweet.

Of course news reporting must remind everyone that Elijah Cummings is black.  Cummings' racial identity is the only reason Trump's tweets are racist?  So, who's the real racist?

And the resounding rebuttal to Trump's tweets is a dance video posted by Michelle Obama.  How does that not highlight a racial stereotype?  How is Michelle Obama's tweet not racist?

At least Baltimore ain't Alabama.  Alabama is the favorite target of Democrats when pointing out failed leadership.  Naturally Alabama is predominantly white so Democrats can't be charged with racism.  Apparently for predominantly white cities and regions the facts are just facts.  But for predominantly black cities and regions the facts are racist.

Democrats have turned racism into a joke.  Why should anyone pay attention any longer?

My kids went to school in Baltimore. They were there during the riots, so if anyone should have a sour taste about Baltimore it should be me. Like any city, there are good areas and bad. Simon, has never portrayed it differently whether on Homicide: Life on the streets of Baltimore or The Wire. His point is that when people think of Baltimore, they think black, and specifically the bad element there. But in fact, that is not true a true picture of the city or its residents. There are beautiful areas right inside Baltimore that are totally white. And there is huge urban renewal going on in the black and mixed areas. It is not a perfect city but it's not the way that our President has described it either and I can see how people would take it as racist. Crime has to do with economics, not color.

Isn't Baltimore, and the 7th district where John Hopkins University located. Didn't our current head of HUD work and teach there for a number of years? Oh, there is the John Hopkins Heath System and the University of Maryland in the 7th district as well.

My great nicece was married in Baltimore last year and recently purchased a home in the GASP, 7th district. Both professionals and high earners....

Check out Ellicott City in the 7th district...overrun by rats but their are wealthy rats cuz the homes and income are quite high there.

Indeedy. Also Roland Park, which is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Baltimore is right next to the 7th.

Didn't our current head of HUD work and teach there for a number of years?

That was Ben Carson, who was the head of Ped neuro surgery and yes he did live in the 7th.

I work at the University of Maryland Medical Center which is right in the midst of downtown.

I live in Columbia.  Some areas of Columbia have the big bucks.  Howard County is one of the most prosperous nations in the US.

There are rats here too.

There are rats just about everywhere people live.

Go figure!

Why have white racists praised Trump past and present?

Why did he have amnesia concerning David Duke?

Why did he concoct a story about having detectives investigate the birthplace of the first black president?

Again more non sequitur questions, but you still can't explain why Trump's comments are racist. You aren't willing to explain why we are talking about race at all. Hint: it's because Trump's political opponents are racist race-baiters. (Too easy?)

And there we have it! The argument I have been waiting for. If I can't see it, there's no helping me. I'm too far gone. My own racism has blinded me to the "obvious" truth.

Sorry (but not sorry), if this pisses you - or anyone else - off but I'm going to keep hammering away at this. We can't have conversations about ordinary things anymore because all someone has to do to shut things down is accuse someone else of being racist.

It's bullshit. Either demonstrate an actual causal connection showing how something is racist or expect me to keep calling you out for this BS tactic.

Good thing that doesn't apply to me. Are you deflecting? How about the topic? The topic is not "every stupid thing he has ever done." It's this one set of comments and whether or not they are racist. Can't you stick to that? Or is it time to admit the truth?
