They Said What? Here Are The 13 Nuttiest Quotes From Wednesday’s Democratic Presidential Debate
Are these really the best and brightest that the Democratic Party has to offer? It was going to take a monumental effort to top Marianne Williamson’s level of craziness on Tuesday night, but on Wednesday there were several Democratic contenders that gave it their best shot. Kirsten Gillibrand and Jay Inslee were particularly unhinged, and Joe Biden “repeatedly stumbled over numbers and phrases” during an incoherent performance that will be remembered for a long time to come. The Democrats may have more than 20 candidates running, but none of them looks like a president at this point. Perhaps that will change, or perhaps a stronger candidate will enter the race eventually, but right now Democratic strategists cannot be feeling too good about their chances of winning the 2020 election. Of course Republicans are facing some very serious challenges of their own, but at least they don’t have to worry about a powerhouse candidate on the other side.
After what we witnessed on Wednesday night, there are several candidates that should simply pack up and go home, because their performances were downright embarrassing. The following are the 13 nuttiest quotes from Wednesday’s Democratic presidential debate…
#13 Kirsten Gillibrand: “The first thing that I’m going to do when I’m president is I’m going to Clorox the Oval Office.”
#12 Jay Inslee: “Our house is on fire. We have to stop using coal in ten years and we need a president to do it or it won’t get done. Get off coal. Save this country and the planet.”
#11 Joe Biden: “Obamacare is working.”
#10 Julian Castro: “I don’t want to make America anything again. I don’t want us to go backward. We’re not going back to the past. We’re not going back where we came from. We’re going to move forward.”
#9 Andrew Yang: “We need to do the opposite of much of what we’re doing right now and the opposite of Donald Trump is an Asian man who likes math.”
#8 Kamala Harris: “What we need is someone who is going to be on that debate stage with Donald Trump and defeat him by being able to prosecute the case against four more years. And let me tell you we’ve got a long rap sheet.”
#7 Cory Booker: “We have a real crisis in our country, and the crisis is Donald Trump — but not only Donald Trump, I have a frustration that sometimes people are saying the only thing they want is to beat Donald Trump. Well, that is the floor and not the ceiling.”
#6 Bill de Blasio: “If we’re going to beat Donald Trump, this has to be a party that stands for something. The party of labor unions. This has to be the party of universal health care. This has to be the party that’s not afraid to say out loud we’re going to tax the hell out of the wealthy. And when we do that, Donald Trump right on cue will call us socialists. Here’s what I’ll say to him: ‘Donald, you’re the real socialist.'”
#5 Jay Inslee: “And number two — number two, we have to make America what it’s always been, a place of refuge. We got to boost the number of people we accept. I’m proud to have been the first governor, saying send us your Syrian refugees. I proud to have the first governor to stand up against Donald Trump’s Muslim ban. I’m proud to have sued him 21 times and beat him 21 times in a row. I’m ready for November 2020.”
#4 Andrew Yang: “Raise your hand in the crowd if you’ve seen stores closing where you live. It is not just you. Amazon is closing 30% of America’s stores and malls.”
#3 Cory Booker: “There’s a saying in my community that you’re dipping into the Kool-Aid and you don’t even know the flavor.”
#2 Kirsten Gillibrand: “I think as a white woman of privilege who is a US senator running for president of the united States, it is my responsibility to lift up those voices that aren’t being listened to. And I can talk to those white women in the suburbs and explain to them what white privilege actually is.”
#1 Jay Inslee: “We have one last chance. When you have one chance in life, you take it. Think about this. Literally the survival of humanity on this planet in civilization is in the hands of the next president. And we have to have a leader who will do what is necessary to save us. That includes making this the top priority of the next presidency.”
#13 Kirsten Gillibrand: “The first thing that I’m going to do when I’m president is I’m going to Clorox the Oval Office.” (so would I)
#11 Joe Biden: “Obamacare is working.” (it isn't?)
#9 Andrew Yang: “We need to do the opposite of much of what we’re doing right now and the opposite of Donald Trump is an Asian man who likes math.” (well since trmp has pretty much undone everything Obama did, I think he's right. And I like math, too)
#6 Bill de Blasio: “If we’re going to beat Donald Trump, this has to be a party that stands for something. The party of labor unions. This has to be the party of universal health care. This has to be the party that’s not afraid to say out loud we’re going to tax the hell out of the wealthy. And when we do that, Donald Trump right on cue will call us socialists. Here’s what I’ll say to him: ‘Donald, you’re the real socialist.'” (He's right. These people need to talk more about policy and less trmp)
If it's working, why are half of them trying to outlaw private insurance?
I know, right? With the Affordable Care Act repealed, US schools now on a voucher system, the border wall complete, gay marriage illegal, abortion banned, it's difficult to recognize the place from 2016. Oh...wait...
Do you think you could possibly inject some into the Democratic Party?
They need to talk about sensible policy, unlike this short list he's mentioned.
Because the company she keeps is so pure.....
I watched the first night of debates this week, but haven't caught the second night yet.
When Marianne Williamson is considered by some to have "won" the other night, you KNOW there is a problem!
It was all rather entertaining, though!
Let's throw millions off of their current healthcare--that sounds WONDERFUL!
Let's forgive millions and millions in college loans!
Let's give free college and childcare to all!
The rich will pay for it ALL!!!
What could go wrong?
The problem is you always will run out of other people's money.
I have never watched any primary debates. And with this many candidates, I can't see the point - as an independent, I can vote in either primary (but not both). But I don't see much point in paying a ton of attention until the field gets narrowed down. I've never been contacted to participate in any poll, anyway.
I had to tell my mom's aides not to watch the primary debates, though. Mom has dementia and had a major confusion episode on Tuesday night. I think the debates freaked her out ... which is certainly understandable. She doesn't need to watch any politics at this point, it's pretty much always depressing anyway, and people arguing, and stuff like that. She hates Trump so she'll most likely vote for whoever isn't him in the election, she won't be voting in the primary, so .. why upset her?
I think a lot of the candidates (especially the relatively unknown) should drop out. It's ridiculous so many are running. How many, at least 20?
That Williamson, although a lot of people seem to like her, seems she came out of nowhere. I didn't know you could run if you didn't have any government experience at all.
I must have just had a brain fart. What was I thinking? Look at the current resident of the oval office in regards to no government experience at all.
I recall hearing about a few people who dropped out - and I had never heard of them, and didn't even know they were running.
The GOP clown car last election should have served as a lesson.
You and I could run for POTUS. The only requirements are that you be at least 35 years old and born in the USA. (I'm assuming you're at least 35, if you're not, then mea culpa)
I think there should be a minimum IQ requirement, too. And maybe a pulse requirement.
I forgot there were so few requirements. I agree with the minimum IQ requirement. With the current resident, I think a battery of psychiatric tests should be run also.
I'm 56 TG, so no worries. I wish I was only 35 again!
I think candidates should have to undergo a background check. You don't pass it, you can't run.
That's brilliant. You know how the current resident could never pass that one.
I think so. Someone's on the House Intelligence Committee and we rely on voters to determine if they should have access to classified information?
Would have saved Clinton the embarrassment of impeachment.
Neither main candidate last year would have been able to run, IMO. But you're probably right about Bill Clinton, too. Doesn't seem like people who are truly "worthy" of the office want to go through the hassle of running, or dealing with all the BS the job entails.
Oh, I don't expect to actually happen. It's just a pipe dream.
The silly season would last even longer - because it takes so long to conduct a background check. I had a TS for much of my career (never a poly, though) and it does piss me off that Hillary and Trump ran for President when I would have lost my clearance for doing what either of them have done. And that many of the people Trump has appointed and given clearances to shouldn't have them. But, that's how our system works. The idiot voters get to decide.
There are all sorts of other considerations that make this impossible, too. What happens when a politician dies - or gets thrown in jail - and we need an immediate replacement?
Should we have a poll tax too along with your literacy tests?
You don't think the POTUS should be able to read and write and answer a few basic civics questions?
When you ask dumb questions like that, I really do think you are trolling all of us with your trmp support. You really think he's a dumbass, don't you?
I think that we should leave the constitution well enough alone on the Presidential eligibility issue.
My Trump support is based in his actions since he was elected since I was a never Trump person during the GOP Primaries and voted for an independent candidate in the general election that year. Of course I was never Hillary as well.
Of course you do - if I had my way, people who state that they put their religions above our country would be considered too non-patriotic to be eligible to run for office.
I didn't say it was. Maybe you should read what I actually wrote instead of what you think I wrote.
Righhhtttt......
That man could shoot somebody in the Rose Garden and you would STILL kiss his fat ass!
You're nit picking.
Start reading the words I actually wrote instead of the words you want me to say
That was on another seed. I would get a ticket if I kept replying to you after I smacked you with an impasse in this seed.
But please....comment to me again.
You better disallow anyone that puts a Union, political group, or any other entity above all else. Might as well get the rest out of way.
When there are 9 sane people on stage, and 8 of those are lighting and sound crew.....
Former congressman Delaney seemed quite reasonable during the first night. A ticket with him and the congresswoman from Hawaii in either order would be one worthy of strong consideration.
My take away...
Your Medicare plan stinks. No, your Medicare plan stinks. No, Obamacare stinks. Trump is racist.
They could have done the entire debate in 10 minutes.
Not the greatest, but if they were to ask about healthcare plans during a Republican debate, you'd just wind up with them staring blankly. So at least they have healthcare plans to debate about.
Where you not listening to them? They said nobody's plan was worth crap.
It doesn't count if the plans are ridiculous.
Trying to sell dogshit as caviar is NOT better than not selling anything at all.
So, you are saying that America can NOT do what every other industrial country on the world can? You have that low of an opinion of America?
Not a very patriotic stance.
Do what every industrial nation in the world does?
Secure its own borders?
Keep track of immigrants so they don't overstay their visas?
Require ID for elections?
Have higher tax rates?
Nope every country has border issues, but none have 2000 mile walls or kidnap children.
Every country has these problems also, they just don't complain about "shithole" countries.
0 for 3. The only countries with rampant voter fraud are ones where the fraud is state sponsored, like Russia.
And get more for those taxes. Amazon made billions of dollars of net profit last year, they received a tax refund. Justify that.
BTW, you do understand the discussion was about healthcare, right? But you can't hold any water in that conversation can you?
"Everybody else does it" is the last line of argument for people who haven't a clue on the subject.
We "can" do lots of things.
We "can" rip up all of our interstate highways. We "can" outlaw cows because "milk is violence". We "can" address immigration by simply invading Honduras and any other country where immigrants originate. We "can" win the World Cup by outlawing all other sports. We can mandate all houses be painted grey.
We're actually not short of dogshit ideas, nor are we short of people pretending they are caviar.
Sure we can do it. Just as soon as NATO and every country we have military bases in gets their heads out of their asses and pays/develops a military capable of defending themselves.
We can then save billions every year by closing those over seas bases and bringing our troops home to take over port and border security.
Let's see if "every other industrial country in the world" can pay for guns and butter at the same time?
Here Are The 13 Nuttiest Quotes From Wednesday’s Democratic Presidential Debate
If those are the nuttiest quotes the right can find , Trump is in trouble.
If those were the best candidates the Democratic Party can offer up, perhaps they are the ones in trouble.
Free shit and talking shit about Trump isn't likely to win elections.
Worked with Trump. Free wall that Mexico was going to pay for, and nothing else but name calling.
But the wall was never being given to illegal aliens, now was it?
At least the wall has a purpose--besides pandering to dimwits, like most of what the debaters offered up.
Sorry, but open borders is NOT supported by the majority--for a REASON.
Not a clue what you are talking about. If Mexico was going to pay for the wall, it would belong to Mexicans.
The wall's only purpose was to convince the gullible and simple that it was a viable solution.
Then it is good that none of the front running Democrats support open borders.
But you know what is supported by the majority?
The majority of Democratic candidates or the American public?
So you made a claim, posting it as if it were a fact, with absolutely nothing to back it up with?
I heard it on a TV at best Buy...
Just following your lead.
Poorly, very poorly.
And you're doing what so many on the right do.....projecting.
Seems my mother is not part of the majority. She is on Medicare and cannot stand it. She has fought breast cancer successfully once; and is in the high risk category of getting cancer again (She doesn't smoke, and at 78 does a workload that would put most in an early grave). Her doctors recommend multiple cancer screenings each year- Medicare will only pay for one. She has supplemental insurance; but that only pays out when medicare approves the charge; but won't pay the full amount. Sorry exchanging for a piece of shit bureaucrat making their medical decisions; instead of a piece of shit insurance company- isn't worth it.
OK, how much tax? The devil is in the details, and the Democrats cannot agree on a percentage or what the cutoff is that defines "rich". Then there are those that want to tax cumulative wealth that has already been taxed. Sounds great until they cannot define what "rich" is again.
BS. There is nothing Free, except in leftists' minds. Wait until those that are for it find out what the cost will be. Something the left really doesn't want to discuss.
More BS. See above response.
Now something we can agree upon. Mandatory validation that all votes are legally cast; and that all those voting are legally able to. Wait, that is not what you meant?! Didn't you hear the words of the former savior of the Democratic Party that no votes were altered/changed in the last Presidential election?
They are already take steps to secure the election from Russian (outside) interference. They will not however be able to stop advertising from Russia, China, EU, or any other country from influencing our election. The best they can do is keep it to a minimum.
Better not let Barack hear you say that. Wealth disparity was the greatest under his rule.
Also, who was Obama's economic Czar again?
Of GE was great at exporting jobs from the US and getting refunds while paying zero taxes.
So Trump hasn't started enough wars for the left's liking? Or is it only wars sustained and started by Democrats that the left likes? Better hurry up and get back to business as usual. I am sure an ally somewhere has a war they desperately needs the US to fight for them.
So the Democrats are finally talking about population control on a global scale? Because that is the only thing that is going to influence man made climate change. No, just playing lip service to changes that will bankrupt the US as businesses leave for more friendly environments that want the jobs they will create; but will not affect the rest of the planet in the slightest.
Last night's Socialist Democrat show did not disappoint. Their identity politics and open borders policies were on full display. Gillibrand is even going to go around the country to teach white, suburban women about their "white privilege"!
Don Lemon, a so-called "journalist", missed many opportunities to ask the candidates hard follow-up questions. Oh, wait ... he's on their team.
One more thing: Their attacks on Barack Obama are the sure way to knock them out of the race ... and that includes Biden, who threw Obama under the bus a few times. That Hope and Change thing was a 2 time winner!
I bet Lemon got a thrill up his leg on that one.
Lemon's not into women.
Gillibrand's in for a rude awakening if she thinks she can use this kind of identity politics to gain votes.
White suburban women are not waiting around all day for a lecture from her?
Even the Lecturer in Chief Obama was not dumb enough to go that far.
White suburban women who my wife and I know (D, R, and I) are too busy working, taking care of their children/homes (which is also a job), and volunteering, so if they heard Gillibrand say this, they probably laughed.
So could Beto and the other wealthy ones who are embarrassed by their "white privilege", but they never put their money where their mouths are.
Gillibrand and some of the others have lifetime platinum healthcare for themselves and (I think) some members of their families. Pretty nice gig when you work only a few months a year!
This does not look good for Biden. 'The Squad' and their extremist left fringe friends are running the show now.
I have an open mind on things like pollution and climate change, but I don't think we need to stop using coal in ten years. I don't have a lot of respect for candidates that get ahead by trying to terrify the voters that the sky is falling.
Right this minute, I'd guess Joe is just about the only person in politics who thinks this is true. Even people in his own party are saying "something needs to be done" about health care. If Obamacare were working, there wouldn't be anything that needs to be done.
I don't even care what he said. He's terrible. Just. Terrible.
Is no one in the party bothered that this guy basically just said "vote for me because I'm trying to be a racist stereotype?"
The obvious stupid infesting this comment is - I hope - clear to everyone watching. If there is anybody in politics who is the opposite of socialist, it's the current president.
It's always so fashionable - also short-sighted and reactionary- to hate on a successful business. More efficient and successful businesses or business models (catalog retailers like Sears, shopping malls, online retailers, etc.) have been replacing mom-and-pop stores for well over a century. Heck, it goes back centuries when permanent market places sprung up to replace itinerant merchants. Mere decades ago, malls and gallerias were making it hard on the street side proprietors. Now Amazon is competing with the mall. Tomorrow, it will be someone else.
Democrats love to claim that Trump is inventing crises and preying on the fears of voters, but that's exactly what this kind of thing is. Do voters imagine Yang is going to outlaw Amazon, if he's elected?
God! Where is my barf bag? Is there a more self-important person running right now than Kirsten Gillibrand? Her sanctimony is nauseating.
And the sky is still falling with this guy. The fear is still being mongered. There isn't enough eyeroll in the world for this invented drama. Is this guy a closet millennial? Because I think he might be stretching the meaning of "literally."
Yang is running? That'll be the day a Chinese person will be elected POTUS. Okay America, you've had white, you've had black, you'll never have yellow. Now it's time for a REAL American - KAVIKA FOR PRESIDENT!!!
(Oh, before you call me a racist for saying you'll never have yellow, know that I and my Chinese wife have been happily married for more than a decade and I'm very comfortably living among her family and her people and they have always been comfortable with me.)
I submit a new number one for consideration. From Biden's closing statement:
"Eight more years of Donald Trump will change America in a fundamental way, the America we know will no longer exist."
Is that when he also said (paraphrased) "Vote for Biden 3030"? He was up long after his bedtime!
