... and he had the largest inauguration crowd ever, and he's the fittest President ever, and he never said all those things we have him on tape saying, and that wasn't him on the Access Hollywood bus, and he never paid porn stars to keep quiet about his apparently non-stop infidelity, oh yeah, and he never cheated on all three of his wives and never ran multiple businesses into bankruptcy... /s

Ever listen to the "Liberal" candidates for President, or listen to the Taliban 4 ?

They want violence in their rhetoric, and get it too !

It's always someone else's fault in Liberal land, even when they speak the same as those they blame !

Yes, I, we, do! Trump is his own bad boy now! You can't have it both ways in this. Either Donald is "getting 'er done" and it is pleasing to conservatives who cover for him, or he is a 'flaming' liberal who is damnable each and every time he is up at bat!

Trump is getting 'er done, conservative-style. You like it. So now-own all facets of Donald!

This most recent phase of the Trump presidency is the most dangerous so far. He has, of course, encouraged violence, or suggested its efficacy, on many occasions in the past. In March, in an interview with  Breitbart News , he made it plain that he was sympathetic to those of his supporters who might feel compelled to become violent on his behalf. “I can tell you I have the support of the police, the support of the military, the support of the Bikers for Trump. I have the tough people, but they don’t play it tough—until they go to a certain point, and then it would be very bad, very bad.” And he has spoken about the press in such a way as to possibly stimulate thoughts of violence among his more fervent adherents.

But in this latest phase, his rhetoric has become particularly sweeping. Brown people in general have become his targets. And there is no reason to hope that he will reform. His followers reward his radicalism, and his handlers are among the most cynical figures in American political history. His aide Kellyanne Conway tweeted on Sunday, “Working as one to understand depraved evil & to eradicate hate is everyone’s duty. Unity. Let’s do this.” And his daughter Ivanka wrote, in a way that hints at a permanent separation from reality, “White supremacy, like all other forms of terrorism, is an evil that must be destroyed.” And, of course, there is no one of any influence in his party who is willing to confront him.

I watched the video recording of the rally in Panama City shortly after reading the El Paso killer’s so-called manifesto. It is a document littered with phrases and rhetorical devices injected into mainstream discourse by the president and his supporters—talk of a “Hispanic invasion,” accusations that Democrats support “open borders,” and the like. As Trump faces the possibility that he will lose the presidency next year, he may become more enraged, and more willing to deploy the rhetoric of violence as a way to keep his followers properly motivated. The Panama City speech was an important moment in Trump’s ongoing effort to make the American presidency a vehicle in the cause of marginalizing and frightening racial minorities; the killings are a possible (and predictable) consequence of such rhetoric.

I am so disgusted right now that I could puke.

Now Trump wants to bury some stupid gun crappola under his pile of immigration nonsense.  Unbefrigginbelievable!

The El Paso shooter will never be sentenced to death for what he did.  Why?  Because he had Trump's permission to do what he did.  If the president of the US can label Mexican immigrants as rapists, murders and gang members, and no one gives a flying fart how those words are affecting the actions of others, then this nightmare will continue.

Impeach this idiot and send him back home to Russia, and he can take his entire family and that doofus Mitch McDonnell with him.  What is it going to take for republicans to wake up and smell the shit-coffee Trump has been serving them?

Sorry John.  Delete this if you want to.  I'm just sick of feeling powerless.

Neither party is worth the plug nickle to blow them to Hell at this point. They don't even give a tinkers damn about their own supporters other then when it is time to vote.

I see too much partisanship on social media sites.   It is difficult for people to actually weigh in thoughtfully on matters (especially politics) without being cast in a stereotype.   This happens very often with independents (i.e. those who do not factor in party positions and ideologies when forming an opinion on a matter).   Note that an independent is not necessarily a registered I (could be a D or R).   So let's say there is a D who is an independent thinker.   That D may offer opinions that are often aligned with the D party (ergo why the person is a D) but sometimes disagrees (and sometimes aligns with the R on an issue).   The instant that D expresses something other than D, s/he is cast into a 'them' stereotype.

Not the best dynamic for thoughtful adult discourse intended to broaden minds and encourage thinking.   Great, however, for encouraging adults to bicker like high schoolers.

The problem is when one moves from discussing content to attacking fellow members.   If one finds someone who seems to be wrong about Trump in some way, then of course take the debate to them with facts and reason.   But stereotyping people (and worse) is non-productive.   Indeed, if one attacks a fellow non-supporter of Trump because said person is not sufficiently venomous or who has a position that is not as extreme as one's own then that is actually counter-productive.

Let us be clear. The sides are not equal. Even in their efforts to fix problems in America. I could, we can all wish for better politics of the day, but this is not a one side has a 'pitchfork," and the other side "shiny horns" narrative. One side is definitely trying to impose its brand of social justice on the other side. I will let commonsense explain to each observer what should matter most!

Incidentally, I get the whole  "static" constitution authority vs. "living" constitution debate. But, and its a big butt - only a fool should think: 1) Minorities should be perpetually an under-served and offical second-class. 2) That every major alteration of the federal government (affecting the states) should require a 'line-item' approved change to the Constitution. If so, then what use is having an effective Congress representing the people?

Also, let's not make "independent" a self-righteous state of being. Straddling the fence can be problematic for situations needing (demanding) a holistic approach!

Unfortunately, the shooter put out his manifesto for the world to see stating that he was planning this long before Trump took office.

My opinions on automation, immigration, and the rest predate Trump and his campaign for president. I putting this here because some people will blame the President or certain presidential candidates for the attack. This is not the case. I know that the media will probably call me a white supremacist anyway and blame Trump’s rhetoric. The media is infamous for fake news. Their reaction to this attack will likely just confirm that. Many people think that the fight for America is already lost. They couldn’t be more wrong. This is just the beginning of the fight for America and Europe. Has the NRA outlived its usefulness? OUTRAGE! It is bound to come—finally. Even Ohio Representative Tim Ryan used the "fhit" word over the weekend. Both men,Tim and Beto realize their states, their friends, and families were indirectly targeted by mad-men. And, still today the president is obliged to keep the NRA and guns out of his proposals to fix the problem of weapons of mass destruction use wild-spread in America.

Questions:

1. Has the NRA outlived its usefulness?
2. Why is NRA-ILA allowed to continue lobbying Congress?

1no, as long as the left continues their assault on liberty and our natural right to keep and bear arms, we encourage any organization tha5 defends this essential right

2 because of that pesky little thing called the Constitution

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

the NRA is a way for us to collectively petition Congress to protect our God given rights

to protect our God given rights

"He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore." - Isaiah 2:4

I think it's hilarious that you imagine your right to bear arms was "God given".

" Has the NRA outlived its usefulness?"

"in 1861, a national rifle association was proposed by Americans in England. In a letter that was sent to President Lincoln and published in the New York Times , R.G. Moulton and R.B. Perry recommended forming an organization similar to the British National Rifle Association, which had formed a year and a half earlier. They suggested making a shooting range, perhaps on the base on Staten Island, and were offering Whitworth rifles for prizes for the first shooting competition with those rifles."

"Union Army records for the Civil War indicate that its troops fired about 1,000 rifle shots for each Confederate hit, causing General Burnside to lament his recruits: "Out of ten soldiers who are perfect in drill and the manual of arms, only one knows the purpose of the sights on his gun or can hit the broad side of a barn."

"Recognizing a need for better training, Wingate sent emissaries to Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany to observe militia and armies' marksmanship training programs. With plans provided by Wingate, the New York Legislature funded the construction of a modern range at Creedmoor, Long Island, for long-range shooting competitions."

So if the use was primarily to create more marksmen so they could kill more confederate bigots, then perhaps their usefulness is not yet fulfilled. Sadly, we seem to have a rash of wannabe confederates, Nazis and violent white supremacists coming out of the woodwork now that Trump has provided them cover, and they're just using the NRA to protect their rights to own arsenals of military style weapons in preparation for their hoped for and imagined next civil war that they fantasize about not losing next time.

1. [N]o, as long as the left continues their assault on liberty and our natural right to keep and bear arms, we encourage any organization tha[t] defends this essential right.

Defend yourself in public. The NRA is an old, haggard, out-dated, bloated, machine. Time to put it 'down.'

2. [B]ecause of that pesky little thing called the Constitution.

The Constitution says the NRA-ILA has a right of speech. It does not say they have a right to lobby (and buy/sell) in Congress. Let them 'speak' from the curbside or even better from the bushes!

You have no hesitation [deleted] when pushing your agenda to take away our rights so your totalitarian “utopia” can be finalized.

I have no "utopian" outlook on life. That is an old, haggard, out-dated, bloated, talking point you "faithfully" (and wrongly) traffic in. That's all it is.

Incidentally, a Christian leader who sees no harm in homicidal death of his or her fellow citizens by assault weapons is a dangerous individual to behold. We, believers, have to take on the use of weapons of war, on the streets of our cities.

On a personal note, I am for people having jobs that allow them to contact, engage, and persuade Congress. What I am against is people who effectively have, "eyes but don't see; ears but don't hear." We need the NRA/NRA-ILA to see and hear the pain and sorrow of children, old folks, and family members crying out in despair! The NRA is a clearly biased organization that literally makes money off of public/mass shootings by promoting that, "more guns means less crime" bullshit.

Some numbers from the NRA.

Independent Expenditures: $8,989,810
     For Democrats: $12,942
     Against Democrats: $4,344,473
     For Republicans: $5,149,314
     Against Republicans: $44,591
Electioneering Communications: $0 icon_help_white.gif

Fortunately the NRA leadership is in chaos and NRA TV is shut down.

Were it not for the NRA there are many places in this country, and more besides, that could possibly have their weapons of mass destruction citizens (including Sandy Hook preschoolers to elementary grades) at school or in the workforce today!

But, you know what? I really don't care about engaging the tired old debate about how the 2nd amendment coper's can't cope without a specific mouthpiece which coerces politicians! (I thought bribes by any name were illegal in this country? Oh well, . . . .) The United States have a standing military (the best in the world) and thus, the NRA needs to find its 'lane' and stay in it. Much like the Right-wing Church needs to stay in its lane too!

Can it be used to kill 9 people and wound 14 more in less than 30 seconds?

That guy (Connor Betts) had to be using an illegal weapon. The news report on the radio said that investigators recovered something like 44 shell casings. Now, I don't know a lot about guns, but it seems to me that nobody can shoot off 44 rounds in less than 30 seconds with an semi-automatic. Semis fire off one round per pull of the trigger.

Dayton shooter used a gun that may have exploited an ATF loophole

Surveillance video shows officers pursuing gunman, Connor Betts in Dayton’s Oregon District and fatally shooting him early Sunday. Provided by Dayton Police Department

Even though it looked like a rifle, the gun used to kill nine people and wound at least 14 more was likely classified as a pistol, skirting around laws restricting short-barreled rifles.

Will the device on Connor Betts' weapon, called a "pistol brace," become the next bump stock in nation's gun control debate?

Here's what we know about the AR-15 style .223 caliber firearm used in the Dayton shooting Sunday:

  • It was legally purchased by Betts' from an online retailer in Texas. It then was transferred to him by a local firearms dealer who would be required to perform a background check, police said.
  • Nothing on Betts' criminal record would have prevented him from buying a gun.
  • He used legal-to-own 100-round drum magazines.
  • The lower receiver, which houses the trigger, was made by Anderson Manufacturing in Hebron, Kentucky. Under federal law, the lower receiver is the gun. Purchasing a lower receiver requires a background check. All other parts of guns, such as barrels and stocks, can be bought legally off the shelf or online.
  • Betts could have had as many as 250 rounds in his possession; he fired at least 41 rounds in about 30 seconds.

The firearm used to kill nine and wound 27 more in Dayton early Sunday morning.  (Photo: Provided/Dayton Police Department)

On Monday, Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said Betts' gun was "modified in essence to function like a rifle" and "to avoid any legal prohibitions." He did not specifically cite a pistol brace, but photos of the weapon released by police show one.

The federal restrictions on short-barreled rifles were enacted to stop people from making rifles, guns fired from the shoulder, more concealable. Rifles typically can fire more powerful cartridges than pistols and shoulder stocks allow the rifles to be fired more accurately.

It is illegal to own a rifle with a barrel shorter than 16 inches without paying $200 for a National Firearms Act tax stamp and completing all the related paperwork and background checks. The process is similar to legally owning a fully-automatic rifle.

It is unclear if Betts' went through this process, but the firearm he used did have a barrel shorter than 16 inches.

AR-15 style firearms can be rifles or pistols. A pistol can have a short barrel, but no shoulder stock. A rifle can have a shoulder stock, but the barrel must be 16 inches or longer.

Enter the pistol brace, also known as a stabilizing brace. For all practical purposes, this device allows pistols with short barrels to have something resembling a shoulder stock.

Many of these devices closely resemble shoulder stocks and can be used in that fashion, which raises another question for the ATF. If you put a pistol brace to your shoulder, does that turn your gun into something illegal?

The ATF has gone back and forth on its answer. The agency has issued several open letters, which are not law but indications of how the agency plans to interpret the law.

In 2012, the ATF issued a letter saying braces could be attached to a pistol without turning the weapon into a short-barreled rifle.

In 2015, the agency said firing a pistol from the shoulder with a brace would not constitute a "redesign" and would require all the necessary paperwork and taxes.

When brace manufacturers sought more clarification, the ATF again appeared to change its stance in 2017. The ATF said "incidental, sporadic, or situation ‘use’ of an arm-brace" from the shoulder did not constitute a redesign, but taking "affirmative steps to configure the device" as a shoulder stock would, such as removing straps intended to wrap around the arm.

Dean Rieck, the executive director of the Buckeye Firearm Association, said trying to ban firearm components will not prevent the next mass shooting.

"After every shooting, we see the same pattern," Rieck said. "People have certain pet laws they want to see passed. You'll probably see various laws proposed."

In terms of pistol braces, Rieck said: "Things like that don't really make a difference. If your purpose is to harm people, that configuration is not ideal anyway."

After the Las Vegas mass shooting, Cincinnati and Columbus attempted to ban bump stocks, which can increase the rate of fire of a rifle. Rieck's association successfully blocked the bans by invoking Ohio's preemption rule,  which stops cities from overriding state gun laws.

Chief Biehl has not said it he believes the short barrel and pistol brace assisted Betts in the killings, but he did take a stance on the level of firepower used in the attack.

Asked about the 100-round magazines, he said: "It’s problematic. It is fundamentally problematic. To have that level of weaponry in a civilian environment unregulated is problematic."

We have something of an idea. In Dayton, Ohio - a distracted gunman managed to kill nine adults with a high-power weapon of mass destruction in 30 secs or less. How high is your 30 seconds knife count climbing?

I bet the NRA would be ecstatic to have half as much "power" you seem to believe it has.

Last I checked, politicians on both sides are free to support the NRA or not. Perhaps you mistake political actions for "being bought" because you have just decreed something the majority of our elected leaders have endorsed with our consent to be a danger to all.

There’s no reason for anyone to be unnecessarily exposed to the leftist propaganda spewing from the mouths of Don Lemon, Chris Cuomo, Anderson Cooper or that stomach-churning morning show.

TRUMP CONDEMNS ‘WHITE SUPREMACY,’ CALLS FOR MENTAL HEALTH AND GUN REFORMS AFTER DOUBLE MASS SHOOTINGS

But I was especially disgusted by their coverage of the El Paso massacre. Americans were slaughtered in Texas by a domestic terrorist. But instead of mourning the dead, CNN welcomed Democrats onto the network to take turns whacking President Trump.

Former Texas Rep. Robert “Beto” Francis O’Rourke appeared on Jake Tapper’s “State of the Union” show Sunday to spread flat-out lies about President Trump.

At one point during the interview, Tapper asked the Democrat presidential candidate if he thought the president was a “white nationalist.”

“Yes, I do,” O’Rourke replied.

“Let's not mince words right now. This president is encouraging greater racism, and not just the racist rhetoric, but the violence that so often follows,” he went on to say.

Tapper did not push back. He did not ask for irrefutable evidence. He simply took O’Rourke’s answer as the gospel truth.

“We have a problem with white nationalist terrorism in the United States of America today,” O’Rourke told CNN.

The mainstream media seems hell-bent on trying to convince the nation that they elected a white supremacist who hates people of color. The truth is that President Trump is not a racist nor is he a white supremacist. But as the mainstream media demonstrated over the weekend, they will not allow the truth to get in the way of their agenda....https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/cnn-democrats-use-el-paso-massacre-to-take-cheap-shots-at-trump

Listen. People of color have eyes, ears, and minds. Donald Trump at best has been careless in how he deals with people—period. At worse, he tries to manipulate people in blank sight of others. As president, particularly as a novice president, it behooves Donald to try to learn the 'duties and responsibilities of the office. Familiarize himself with the history of other storied (and infamous) presidents; pitfalls and heights of Congressman; instead Donald Trump came in with a figurative bat behind his bat and proceeded to bludgeon and fire everyone who would not submit to his worldview; those who could not submit he simply fired as per his own private life and storied reality television experience. What am I saying?

Donald Trump is not winning friends and influencing people—he is making profound enemies. The media owes Trump nothing. It never did! It never will! Those people are the fourth estate and not beholden in any way to the leadership of this country. From day one, Donald attempted to manipulate this estate and 'fronts' were established. Trump even initiated his own pre-packaged brand of news, 'Trumpian.' Ironically, in doing so he freed the fourth estate to not concern itself overly much with his point of view. Albeit, they try really hard to maintain a high standard with a leader who does not overly concern himself with veracity.

So yes! Trump past statements and histrionics at rallies are weighing heavy on the minds of politicians who see blood flowing in the streets back home—who happen to be presidential candidates this time around. The damage is 'worthy' this time. The outrage is pure. Emotions are raw. Everybody saw this coming from afar off—now Trump is in the thick of it. And so is good old "it shall not pass" Mitch McConnell in the thick of it too!

(It's late. I'm tired. I'm out.)

The report zeroes in on incidents such as the high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, in February 2018, and the mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in October 2018.

There were at least 50 extremist-related killings in the US in 2018, according to the report, making it the fourth-deadliest year on record for domestic extremist-related killings since 1970."

Some get all cautious when they see a hijab in a public space with lots of people. I get the same reaction when I see a MAGA hat or a skin head, and I make sure I know where all the exists are if it's a skin head wearing a MAGA hat.

"hate has no place in our country."

That's because Trump already filled it with his hate, so there's simply no more room to put the extra hate Trump inspires.

It's hilarious that some think Trump can just undo the constant anti-immigrant rhetoric he's been spouting since the 2016 campaign can just be washed away by his monotone denouncement of some generic "hate".

Why should he take the blame for things he had absolutely nothing to do with?

If you don't think that the President of the United States should be held to a higher standard by, AT THE VERY LEAST, commenting responsibly, then you have bigger problems than he does.  You sing his praises and wear your Christianity like an overcoat.  I can say with sincerity that your bible is vastly different from the one we had in our home when I was growing up.

"Why should he take blame for things he had absolutely nothing to do with"

it's almost as silly as blaming Trumppy for Obamas' good economy...

.

Trump has brought racism mainstream, with his actions, and his inactions, on various teachable incidents.

He is deserved of a Hell of a lot of blame that his thinly veiled racist dog whistles and sometime PA sysyems tweet out about.

Against Women, Latin Americans, Blacks, Muslims, and anybody else that isn't an old white male.

This potUS is one big FAIL !

Yet you and he have no problem heaping praise on him when he takes credit for something he had nothing to do with.

Is he the president or not? He doesn't get to claim credit for all the good and then scream that all the bad is someone else's fault. Not the way it works.

But he did have plenty to do with it! It is Donald Trump who "weaponized" Twitter! He reaches out and touches Americans intimately-in and out-of the political arena with his attempts to move public sentiment. Moreover, he is no pink foot baby to not know the difference. For three years straight an escalating sea of people have admonished Donald about his tactics and strategies making for a 'hard' landing some day for rank and file Americans! He charged ahead into the 'fray' anyway! One of the major rule of law is the leader must never place him or herself on the frontline taking in-coming! He disobeys this basic rule daily on Twitter!

But the Cheney/Bush administration was pure evil just like Trump. Obama was/is a good man.

You have GOT to be fucking kidding.

Trump has taken credit for shit that happened before he was in office.

Trump has taken credit for a plethora of things that he had NOTHING to do with.

Trump has taken credit for shit that hasn't even happened here on Earth 1.

So please DO explain to me why it's right for him to take the credit but not the blame?

It worked that way for Obama.

Like the time Obama told the nation that windmills cause cancer?

Oh wait..

Well, in some ways all presidents do "do" similar things. It really is not always about what "suits their needs."

One reason for this is the many political threats of being 'primaried' which come from political parties, and promises of loss of support from lobbyist/groups/corporations. Being president is certainly difficult in these modern times. Leaders usually are stretched thin in their ability to move or 'flex' because of all the eyeballs on their every recommendation and outcomes.

It was the doctors, who justifiably removed themselves from the program. That was their privilege and right. Of course! The right-wing 'talking machine' would never let Obama live it down (even though he is gone from the presidency) even as the program has settled in. Yet, these are the same conservatives who would cry a namecalling foul if someone says they carry out obstructionists tactics!

Privately, I firmly believe some conservative doctors removed themselves from the ACA program out of protest and not necessity. Thus, lending themselves as fodder for the right-wing talking machine.
