Oh the humanity!. A television news anchor in Oklahoma City made an emotional apology to her co-anchor after saying that a gorilla "kind of looks like you" to a black co-anchor in an on-air news segment.
I understand all the racial baggage associated with African-Americans and ape comparisons, but we compare people to animals all the time and it doesn't mean anything. Human beings see similarities and remark on it. Google "people who look like their dogs" or "animals that look like celebrities" to see what I mean. I would hope that as her friend, this man recognizes that she didn't appear to say what she said out of disrespect.
It would be nice if we could have a world where people could make these observations in fun without having to be held responsible for hundreds of years worth of other people's racism.
