Trump Appeals To Hispanic Voters During New Mexico Rally: ‘We Love Our Hispanics’

President Donald Trump, whose  hardline approach to immigration  has been a cornerstone of his presidency, made a fervent appeal to Hispanic voters during a campaign rally in New Mexico on Monday.

“We love our Hispanics,” he declared.

“Yesterday marked the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month. Who is Hispanic here?” Trump asked the crowd during his wide-ranging address, prompting cheers and applause. Several people in the audience waved “Latinos for Trump” placards and donned T-shirts with the same message.

“Thank you ― incredible people,” Trump said of his Latino supporters.

Trump touted the low employment rate and  rising median income  among Hispanic Americans and said his administration was “working night and day to deliver a future of limitless opportunity for our nation’s Hispanic American citizens, including many extraordinary Mexican Americans.”

Trump also claimed Hispanic Americans were big fans of his tough immigration policies, including his border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“The Hispanic Americans understand they don’t want criminals going across the border, they don’t want people taking their jobs, they want to have that security and they want the wall,” Trump said. “They want the wall.”

In one viral moment, the president singled out one of his supporters ― Steve Cortes, a political commentator on CNN,  who was at the event .

“He happens to be Hispanic but I’ve never quite figured it out because he looks more like a WASP than I do,” Trump said of Cortes, using the abbreviation for a “white Anglo-Saxon Protestant.”

The president then asked Cortes: “Who do you like more ― the country or the Hispanics?”

“He says the country,” Trump continued. “I don’t know, I may have to go for the Hispanics, to be honest. We got a lot of Hispanics. We love our Hispanics! Get out and vote.”

Recent polls show that Trump — who has drawn scrutiny in the past for his racist rhetoric  against Mexicans   and Latin Americans  more broadly — is faring poorly when it comes to Hispanic voters.

Washington Post-ABC News poll  last week found that only 25% of Hispanics approve of the job Trump is doing as president ― considerably lower than his overall approval rating of 38%. A  CNN/SSRS poll , also conducted last week, showed Trump’s approval rating among Hispanic adults to be  29% .

Hispanic Americans are the  largest minority in the United States  — and  New Mexico , which is almost half Hispanic, has the largest Hispanic population by percentage of any state.

Trump said during Monday’s rally that he was confident he could drum up enough support to “win the great state of New Mexico.”

He acknowledged, however, that “it’s been quite a while since a Republican won this state.”

New Mexico has voted for a Republican president only once since 1992. George W. Bush narrowly bested Democrat John Kerry in the state during the 2004 presidential race; Bush beat Kerry by   less than 6,000 votes.

In 2016, Trump was defeated in New Mexico by Hillary Clinton 40% to 48%; and, according to Democrats in the state, the president will have little chance of changing his fortunes in 2020.

“New Mexicans certainly don’t approve of pulling families apart or putting kids in cages,” New Mexico Democratic Party Chairwoman Marg Elliston  told The Washington Post  this week. “We’re ready for leadership that celebrates our immigrant communities, not demonizes them.”

“Look at my Latino-American over here. Look at him! Are you the greatest?”...

Just curious, but how many Latino's are in that picture above? It's like a "Where's Waldo" fun puzzle...

What's a "Latino" look like?

According to Trump his one Latino friend "Look's more like a WASP" than he does. Perhaps he should ask his other good buddy Sherriff Joe Arpaio who, until 2011, when a Federal District Court injunction forced him to stop, maintained an anti-immigrant "squad" which illegally stopped cars with Latino drivers or passengers to check their immigration status. Who would Trumps friend Joe have stopped in the picture above?

So do tell, what do Latino's look like?

I suppose you think you get a pass when making racially charged comments like that eh?

I was asking you.   You made the comment.

I'm afraid the facts show that I was the one asking "how many Latino's are in that picture above?". I made no comment on what anyone "looked like" in that photo, you did. I merely asked how many are pictured above because I can't tell, can you? Trump seemed to look out and be able to spot them, or even your fellow commenter saying "Everyone else immediately behind him were all Latinos". So perhaps you should ask yourself why my question touched such a nerve and why so many Republicans like Trump and Joe Arpaio support racial profiling and apparently have no problem picking Latino Americans out of a crowd.

“I think profiling is something that we’re going to have to start thinking about as a country,” Trump told CBS’ “Face the Nation.”. “You look at Israel and you look at others, and they do it and they do it successfully. And you know, I hate the concept of profiling, but we have to start using common sense,”.

Spin baby spin ..... your comment clearly alluded that there was few if any Latino's no matter how hard you try to spin it away.   It was your judgement.   Not Trumps or Joe's.   So you were styling and profiling.   No doubt about it.

You're busted but no one here expects you to admit it.    Some liberals here appear to think they are never wrong ...... ever!

Trump boasts about wealth and makes series of false claims in hate-filled rally speech disrupted by flies and protesters

Donald Trump  was twice interrupted by protesters at a rally during which he criticised his opponents, discussed his plans to build a border wall and reiterated his support for  Brett Kavanaugh , the Supreme Court justice who has been accused of sexual harassment.

The president went on to describe  Brett Kavanaugh  as a “great talent, a great brilliant man.”

The 73-year-old has not said why he believes the judge is innocent. Fresh accusations about Mr Kavanaugh’s conduct while a student at Yale University emerged only last week.

Mr Trump then used the rally to attack   The New York Times , also known as the Grey Lady, which published the allegations.

“They’ve taken the Old Grey Lady and broken her down, destroyed her virtue and ruined her reputation,” Mr Trump said.

“She can never recover and will never return to greatness under current management.”

The president was heckled twice during the speech. The first interruption came shortly after the rally began.

50944a2ef43cfb77f3543b27e920ec3b

Mr Trump’s supporters booed the protester and the president used the disruption to attack the media.

“Good night to that person,” he said as the protester was escorted out. “Tomorrow [the media] will say ‘massive protests!’

“One person just going home to Mommy a little bit sooner.”

During his speech the president also claimed human traffickers were bringing women across the southern border and that his wall would stop them.

“They traffic, really, for the most part – in women. They capture women and they bring them across the open borders,” he said.

“And they don’t go through ports of entry.”

However, nearly 80 per cent of trafficking victims cross into countries through legal ports of entry, according to the  International Organisation for Migration .

Mr Trump also became irritated as he swatted away a fly and then turned the interruption into an attack on lawmakers.

“That’s a nasty fly,” he joked.

“I don’t like those suckers! I don’t know about you in  New Mexico  but I’m not into flies or mosquitos. I don’t like snakes too much – we have plenty of them in New York and Washington, a different variety.”

“We got a lot of snakes in Washington DC, we got a lot of snakes in New York!”

He went on to repeat false claims about Democrats supporting “extreme late term abortion” before promising to “find new cures for childhood cancer” and “end the AIDS epidemic.”

But only 1.3 per cent of abortions occur after 21 weeks of pregnancy in the US, according to the CDC, and Democrats have only supported such cases where it is a medical emergency.

Mr Trump also claimed he had “made much more money” and “lived better” than his opponents before becoming a politician.

“If you go by the old standards – better houses, better schools, [I] made much more money. [I] lived better and then I decided to run for president.”

The second protester heckled the 73-year-old at the end of the rally, leading him to complain about being interrupted during the “crescendo” of his speech.

“Gee, it’s too bad – right in the crescendo. I just readied the big beautiful crescendo and this character’s going back home,” Mr Trump said.

“It’s two people tonight – remember when they say “Massive protests at the Trump rally” – two people.”

The crowd chanted “USA!’ as the second heckler was removed.

New Mexico is a Democratic leaning state though Republicans are hoping to flip it in 2020.

Wrong,

Two HECKLERS (protesters) were removed from the inside of the "event" for interrupting the POTUS "rally" by shouting at him

as evidenced by the President's own words.

( since they never take the camera off of Trump, we just have to believe him when he says they are being removed, right? )

One of the many peaceful protesters outside the event was arrested.

Yes I watched it and it was on every news channel that night.

Tessy - for 'bout the 100th time, seeking asylum is NOT illegal - crossing the border WITHOUT permission IS illegal.  Crossing the border WITHOUT permission to seek asylum IS illegal.  Requesting asylum places a person on a holding list for further investigation into their quest, but DOES NOT give them permission to be in or stay in the U.S. - they ARE STILL ILLEGAL ALIENS - WAITING FOR PERMISSION to enter the U.S. to be able to go to court to plead their case.

And, no, it is/was not "tens of thousands" of ILLEGAL ALIEN children for months at a time - your quote should have had "immigrants" vice "children".

Use Google - it's your friend.

" The United States government holds tens of thousands of immigrants in detention"

Blah, blah, blah ......

This is going to be fun watching the fringe left implode again in 2020.

Your "resist movement" is blowing up in your faces.   The only hope you really have is if the economy tanks.

It's been hilarious to watch so far!   2020 promises to be a barrel of monkey's by comparison.

I'm looking forward to it.

New Mexico is rich in oil and natural gas, as a matter of fact it is a vital part of the NM economy and Trump touted his support for the fossil fuel industry while taking on democrats for their policies of total reliance on renewable energy. I assume New Mexico's Hispanics heard that and know what it means.

Larga vida Trump!

New Mexico has MORE than it's share of sun and wind too. New Mexico has codified their goals for renewable energy and Trump will have nothing to say about it.
