This means it is almost certain that Trump will be impeached. The committees are already writing up the charges.

I disagree. There is no way the Republicans will ever vote for impeachment, no matter what Trump does. If the transcript of his call turns out to be bad, it won't matter to them in the slightest.

Impeached is not removal. Impeachment is entirely decided by the House. Removal is in the Senate.

Agreed. But let the House, in their critical function as an oversight body, proceed and record for posterity their findings. It may not change a single thing in 2019, but it will confirm that they upheld their responsibility as our elected Representatives. We are in unchartered waters with this administration...one that has demonstrated little understanding and/or open disdain for the rules that have made this country great. Let the critics rant as they are sure to do in their predictable, partisan manner...but it has reached a point where to look the other way in the name of political expediency makes them no better than the alleged perpetrator. Demand the transcripts, hold hearings should they be warranted by the evidence, and render a sober, reasonable decision based on the facts.

Well, Jim, I tend to agree. This is an extremely serious allegation and deserves a thorough and thoughtful investigation...sans partisan grandstanding and posturing (if such a thing is still possible). I still believe the truth will out, now or later, but if he is indeed attempting to influence the coming election, better for all of us to know the circumstances and intent, for the ramifications if left unaddressed will be with us long after the 2020 elections come and go. Nice to chat with you, it's been a minute.

The House conducts impeachments followed by a trial in the Senate. Removal requires both impeachment by the House and conviction by the Senate. If the House impeaches Trump then McConnell will have no other options than to conduct a trial in the Senate. At that point it would only take a few republicans voting to convict Trump in the Senate to remove him. I believe that might be a lot more doable than you presume. Half the gop in the Senate secretly loaths and despises Trump. If come closer to the election it looks like Trump will sink republicans in races all across the country in 2020 the gop may do the deed. The conventional wisdom is off the table when it comes to Donald Trump...

EXCEPT....

The inspector general investigated the complaint and deemed it credible , forwarding it to the acting director as required, according to a letter from the inspector general released by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff.

If it was a nothing burger, it would never have made it past the inspector general.

Then of course there is the small fact that the Trump administration is violating the law blocking the House's access to the report.

The acting director of national intelligence under Trump, Joseph Maguire, is not allowing the whistleblower’s report to be shared with Congress, even though the IG found it to be credible and of urgent concern.

You are assuming the Senate will not vote to convict. I think you may be surprised how many republicans will vote to get rid of Trump when given the chance. Many republicans in the Senate loath Trump but they are afraid of him. Do you really think Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio won't vote to convict? They aren't the only ones. If the House impeaches Trump McConnell will have no choice but to conduct Trump's trial in the Senate. At that point all bets are off especially as republicans are more and more seeing Trump as Ballot Box Poison in 2020.

Respectfully disagree here. No one in Washington understands the game better than Pelosi, and she may now have evidence that rises above mere political gamesmanship...evidence where the ramifications of the behavior coming from the Oval Office demand an official inquiry. If the president is certain of his innocence, simply release the transcripts and let the Dems be accused of another attack if so proven. If the evidence proves contrary to his assertions, we most certainly have a right to know.

Democrats have let Trump stooges ignore subpoenas and claim executive privilege at times that it is clearly illegal to do so.  Just the refusal to turn over Trump's taxes to the House Ways and Means committee should have put at least 2 Trump cronies in jail, but the Dems let them get away with it.

I would like everyone to think about this -- if these same questions were swirling around Obama, how many would want an impeachment investigation?  (I know I would, although I truly believe that Obama would never have put his reelection ahead of our country.)

If you think one should be investigated and the other one should not, your opinion is merely partisan.  I want to know the truth and I truly believe the only way we can get it is through an impeachment inquiry.  Maybe if the administration were more cooperative, we would not need to go to this level.  (Or maybe we would, but we need the truth to come out.)

I remember the impeachment hearings against Nixon.  We needed to know what he and his administration did.  Look, impeachment is never "fun", nor should it be.  However, sometimes we need to go through this level of pain to make our country "a more perfect union."

It's an "impeachment inquiry". That tells me that the House will be looking for evidence to actually move along with an impeachment.

Like you, if Obama had done something like this, I would want a full investigation and if the truth bore out that he committed an impeachable offense, I would want the House to go full bore.

According to my morning am news, the whistle blower wants to testify.  His lawyer(s) are working on the details.

Why did it come out when it was reported, as the law says? Why wait?

Good point.  It's being reported Schiff had it as early as the beginning of August.  Sounds shady (like most everything else the Democrats have done).

They've already done that.  As I already stated, reports are that Schiff had this since early August.  Why did he hold on to it?  If this were really as damning as Democrats want us to believe this trainwreck should have happened then.

reports are that Schiff had this since early August.

Those reports are not accurate.

In this case, Schiff announced, the inspector general notified the committee that this whistleblower’s complaint did constitute an urgent concern and is credible — yet Maguire still hadn’t forwarded the complaint and relevant associated materials to the committee.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/09/18/mystery-adam-schiff-whistleblower-takes-dangerous-new-turn/

So, apparently, as of September 18, Schiff had not recieved the report.

If this were as damning as Democrats want us to believe, something would have been done in early August.  But since it's now the end of September....this equates to about as much evidence as Mueller found - not a damn thing.

Seems many don't fully grasp that Pelosi's "announcement" means nothing.  It's a typical Democrat lip service and you all got sucked right in.

The right wing couldn't impeach Clinton fast enough for lying about a fucking blowjob. But trump wants to use a BILLION US taxpayer dollars to force a foreign country to dig up dirt on a political opponent and those same people not only don't care, but actually try to defend it?

It's ILLEGAL to use taxpayer dollars to fund a campaign, and that's EXACTLY what trump was trying to do. Impeach that dumb POS.

I see the impeachment party has begun once again BEFORE any facts are presented. (I'm not sure that this isn't a continuation of the original party that began in 2016.) One would think that they would tire of this...but it's obvious that they will forge ahead expecting different results.

This inquiry better result in far more than 'we don't like Trump' or the people will show their disdain for the impeachment happy crew with their votes.

The bigger question, if Trump is so terribly guilty, why are they gladly releasing the unredacted transcripts of the phone call? I'm thinking there's far more to this than what the glee club is willing to see...and they may find that they must investigate more than what they bargained for.

You know, that is a good question.  Trump brought up the Bidens right after the Ukrainian President talked about getting more military equipment.  Doesn't Trump see the implicit quid pro quo in that?  Or does he think he is above the law?

Actually....Pelosi launches formal Trump impeachment inquiry, with NO VOTE (Chickens) from the House !

inquiry
[ˈinkwərē, inˈkwī(ə)rē]

NOUN
1. an act of asking for information.

The "Media" Title (Nancy Pelosi Set To Announce, This Afternoon, Impeachment Hearings For Trump) …. as always when it comes to Trump.....is Misleading !

Is Trump "Testifying" in front of any committee that's holding the "Formal Hearings" (Meaning actual impeachment has started) ?

Sooooo ….. this "Formal" thingy as spoken by Pelosi.....is still just the same Ol' crap the Democrats have been doing since Trump was elected.

Had a realization today.  Watching the Democrats and left go after the President is kind of like watching the Roadrunner cartoon.  The Democrats and left filling the roll of Wile E. Coyote doing everything he can to get the Roadrunner (the President) and failing miserably EVERY SINGLE TIME.

It's rather entertaining.

Have you read the conversion memo or the whistleblower report?  Both are pretty damning.

Let me ask you this:  if Obama were being accused of withholding military aid (approved by Congress) until he had his disproven-conspiracy-du-jour was real and then asking for help in getting negative information on his most likely opposition in the next election?  (Give me the truth.  I've been honest that I would want it investigated and, if true, impeached and convicted.  I don't care about the party; I care about the action.)

Ok.  I'll play your game this once.  In case you haven't noticed, the Obama administration did do just that.  Biden withheld congressional approved aid until the prosecutor investigating his son was fired.  You should really pay attention.
