Remember this Op-ed printed in the New York Times on September 5th of last year?
I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
I work for the president but like-minded colleagues and I have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.
President Trump is facing a test to his presidency unlike any faced by a modern American leader.
It’s not just that the special counsel looms large. Or that the country is bitterly divided over Mr. Trump’s leadership. Or even that his party might well lose the House to an opposition hellbent on his downfall.
The dilemma — which he does not fully grasp — is that many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.
I would know. I am one of them.
To be clear, ours is not the popular “resistance” of the left. We want the administration to succeed and think that many of its policies have already made America safer and more prosperous.
But we believe our first duty is to this country, and the president continues to act in a manner that is detrimental to the health of our republic.
That is why many Trump appointees have vowed to do what we can to preserve our democratic institutions while thwarting Mr. Trump’s more misguided impulses until he is out of office.
The root of the problem is the president’s amorality. Anyone who works with him knows he is not moored to any discernible first principles that guide his decision making.
Although he was elected as a Republican, the president shows little affinity for ideals long espoused by conservatives: free minds, free markets and free people. At best, he has invoked these ideals in scripted settings. At worst, he has attacked them outright.
In addition to his mass-marketing of the notion that the press is the “enemy of the people,” President Trump’s impulses are generally anti-trade and anti-democratic.
Don’t get me wrong. There are bright spots that the near-ceaseless negative coverage of the administration fails to capture: effective deregulation, historic tax reform, a more robust military and more.
But these successes have come despite — not because of — the president’s leadership style, which is impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective.
From the White House to executive branch departments and agencies, senior officials will privately admit their daily disbelief at the commander in chief’s comments and actions. Most are working to insulate their operations from his whims.
Meetings with him veer off topic and off the rails, he engages in repetitive rants, and his impulsiveness results in half-baked, ill-informed and occasionally reckless decisions that have to be walked back.
“There is literally no telling whether he might change his mind from one minute to the next,” a top official complained to me recently, exasperated by an Oval Office meeting at which the president flip-flopped on a major policy decision he’d made only a week earlier.
The erratic behavior would be more concerning if it weren’t for unsung heroes in and around the White House. Some of his aides have been cast as villains by the media. But in private, they have gone to great lengths to keep bad decisions contained to the West Wing, though they are clearly not always successful.
It may be cold comfort in this chaotic era, but Americans should know that there are adults in the room. We fully recognize what is happening. And we are trying to do what’s right even when Donald Trump won’t.
The result is a two-track presidency.
Take foreign policy: In public and in private, President Trump shows a preference for autocrats and dictators, such as President Vladimir Putin of Russia and North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un, and displays little genuine appreciation for the ties that bind us to allied, like-minded nations.
Astute observers have noted, though, that the rest of the administration is operating on another track, one where countries like Russia are called out for meddling and punished accordingly, and where allies around the world are engaged as peers rather than ridiculed as rivals.
On Russia, for instance, the president was reluctant to expel so many of Mr. Putin’s spies as punishment for the poisoning of a former Russian spy in Britain. He complained for weeks about senior staff members letting him get boxed into further confrontation with Russia, and he expressed frustration that the United States continued to impose sanctions on the country for its malign behavior. But his national security team knew better — such actions had to be taken, to hold Moscow accountable.
This isn’t the work of the so-called deep state. It’s the work of the steady state.
Given the instability many witnessed, there were early whispers within the cabinet of invoking the 25th Amendment, which would start a complex process for removing the president. But no one wanted to precipitate a constitutional crisis. So we will do what we can to steer the administration in the right direction until — one way or another — it’s over.
The bigger concern is not what Mr. Trump has done to the presidency but rather what we as a nation have allowed him to do to us. We have sunk low with him and allowed our discourse to be stripped of civility.
Senator John McCain put it best in his farewell letter. All Americans should heed his words and break free of the tribalism trap, with the high aim of uniting through our shared values and love of this great nation.
We may no longer have Senator McCain. But we will always have his example — a lodestar for restoring honor to public life and our national dialogue. Mr. Trump may fear such honorable men, but we should revere them.
There is a quiet resistance within the administration of people choosing to put country first. But the real difference will be made by everyday citizens rising above politics, reaching across the aisle and resolving to shed the labels in favor of a single one: Americans.
Here we are, more than a year later, still dealing with Donald Trump's inept style and methods. While the memory of the opinion piece has been over-shadowed by increasingly worse revelations coming from within this administration, the issues are the same. And, as if on que, Trump is dealing with the issues as he did back then: With temper tantrums and other embarrassingly childish antics. The difference is that now, he has put this nation, my nation , in jeopardy with his clear and present disregard for The Constitution of the United States. More concerning are the attempts by supporters to justify Trump's actions and behavior...and for what? A border wall that isn't built? Extra dollars put into the pockets of the already wealthy? Hateful and abusive rhetoric directed at Democrats?
Different verse same as the first? No. It's much worse. Our democracy is under attack. That means we are all under attack...Republicans, Independents and Dems...all. We need to set aside partisan issues and do something now.

Trump has been demanding to know who the whistleblower is. Considering that 55% of our nation's citizens support impeachment proceedings , I feel safe in saying that the whistleblower is us.
I suspect that number is going to continue to climb. As it does, GOP senators are going to start speaking out of the other sides of their mouths.

The whistle blower is in federal protective custody. This way Trump's minions can't bully or intimidate him like Trump would be sure to do if he knows who he is or meets with him. Trump is demanding to know who he is saying he has the right to confront his accuser. He can do that in court. Hopefully the government is taking steps to protect the family also because once his identity is known, they will attacked on social media and possibly face physical harm and even death threats from the deplorables.
Of course he is, he needs to attack their character and come up a snappy nickname that his base can run to the message boards and repeat for the next 300 years because lets face it, trump can't attack the facts which in this case, are REALLY damning.
When this person does testify, he should alter his appearance. His name should only be known to the judge, the court recorder, and the lawyers. A gag order should be issued to those lawyers to expect contempt of court charges if they release it. Considering the attacks that Trump could unleash, it is paramount that the whistle blower be protected as much as possible.

Actually, the Deep State was described as early as 1978 as the top two levels of the unelected bureaucracy. I would suggest that you read A Time For Truth (1978) by William E. Simon, former Secretary of the Treasury. The Deep State is the modern equivalent of the Chinese Mandarin Class in the early Chinese Empire. While the Emperor reigned, they actually ruled. That may work well for an ancient empire but it most certainly is not all right in a republic.

The Mueller report specifically stated that while trump didn't seek out help from Russia, he did accept help from Russia when it was offered. Mueller reiterated that fact when he testified after the report was released.

Oh, BTFW, on Sept. 12 the Judiciary Committee had a hearing on the Resolution for Investigative Procedures and the Resolution was agreed upon. Those rules will be used during the Impeachment Inquiry hearings. It says so right in the resolution. You should go read it. Or you can watch the hearing here:

Well, all of us just have to let it play out like we did the Mueller report and we know how that ended. Democrats made fools of themselves with that and everything else they have thrown at the wall, but nothing has stuck. This debacle that they have started will make fools of them again just in time for an election.
The fools have been, and continue to be, the supporters and defenders of a national embarrassment, as they support Russia's choice to preside and have it be denied.

No, Mueller couldn't conclusively prove Trump criminally conspired with Putin, just like prosecutors couldn't prove beyond a reasonable doubt that OJ stabbed his wife and Ron Goldman. Trump had everyone around him lying to investigators, Mueller said that did impede the investigation, and Trump said "I don't remember" more than 30 times to the written questions which were all Mueller was allowed ask.

Well, impeachment won't happen any time soon. Senators Warren, Sanders, Harris, Booker, Klobuchar, and Bennet have declared themselves to be political opponents of Donald Trump by running for President this election cycle. Democrats have demanded officials recuse themselves from any investigative or judicial proceedings for far less. The participation of Senators running for President would only create the perception that impeachment was a political circus and Democrats wouldn't fare well.
An impeachment trial really can't begin until after the DNC convention closes on July 16, 2020. And an impeachment trial during the general election campaign would be a disadvantage for incumbent Senators running for reelection.
The political collapse of the Mueller investigation really did stymie efforts to impeach Trump. It's too late to go forward with impeachment that isn't tainted by election politics. Especially with so many Congressional Democrats running for President. Nancy Pelosi is going to do the grand stall and try to run out the clock.
The dems said the same thing about Clinton.
Bill Clinton was impeached in the middle of his second term. Clinton's impeachment affected the midterm elections. The timing of the Mueller investigation coincided with the midterm elections of Trump's first term.
Democrats launching an impeachment trial going into a general election for President won't be the same as Clinton's impeachment. The political stakes will be much higher for a Trump impeachment than it was for the Clinton impeachment.
That's debatable.
But remember-- new evidence of possible crimes have come to light since then!
Richard Nixon resigned in the middle of his second term; three months before the midterm elections. Bill Clinton's impeachment spanned the midterm elections and the trial concluded four months after the midterm election.
Impeaching Trump during a general election won't be politically the same as either the Nixon investigations or Clinton's impeachment. History doesn't really serve as a guide for impeaching a President in the midst of a general election.

There are several Democrats in Congress running for President. It won't be easy to avoid allegations that the impeachment has been rigged for political gain.

Asking a foreign nation for help with any problem, be it political or otherwise, indicates a weakness that can be exploited.

Our previous president - you might have heard of him? Barack Obama? - was like Mr. Globalism. He wanted to do everything under the sun in cooperation with other countries. If anything, the current president represents a turn away from that. He just got through making a speech at the UN where he reiterated his long standing position that he is interested in taking care of America first, and a lot of people criticize him for that.
There is a difference between asking for help with diplomacy, and asking for help with depravity.
If we are talking about a president using US power to further his personal gain, NO, we don't. And it should not need to be explained why. Some may try to compare it to the Steele dossier, but its not remotely the same thing, if one wants to know its all readily available to read. It looks like Trump also tried to use Australia for personal political gains. 300 former national security officials say Trump compromised national security with his actions. Its not acceptable. He is not taking care of America AT ALL, he uses America, and he is taking care of Trump first and always. No country trusts us, and all know exactly how to manipulate Trump if they want something.

Yes, it should. If you want people to be so pissed off that they are willing to undo an election over it, you should have to explain it to them - without exaggeration or hyperbole - relying on hard, unequivocal facts, and you should not feel offended about having to do it. That may well be true. I'm not really concerned with what Hunter Biden was up to. I mean I guess I might care a little, but not very much. I'm much more concerned with any abuse of power by the VP.
That is: if the VP used his influence to protect himself and/or his son (and he might have done that whether he or Hunter had done anything wrong or not), I think the American people - and certainly the current president - have a right to know about it. That's not nearly the same thing as standard oppo research.

Even though "anonymous" wrote a devastating op-ed about the Trump presidency over a year ago, nothing has changed because "deplorable" support for the asshole has not changed. He teaches both Humanities and Drama and is well respected by coworkers, parents and students. There is not one hint I could find of him ever being homeless or having suffered any mental problems.
