Stuart Varney: Price-Gouging Pizza In NYC Fights Evil Socialism

Slow news day, Fox and Friends?

So Domino's Pizza charged 30 bucks for a pizza in Times Square on New Year's Eve, and Mayor Bill DeBlasio, recognizing an easy win, objected to pizza price gouging against his voters. A no-brainer.

In response, Fox and Friends and Stuart Varney devoted a segment to defending AMERICA against socialism. "Ugh. 'This chain exploited you'? The man is a socialist."

A MUCH better take from Twitter:

Domino's pulled no punches in responding to New York City Mayor   Bill de Blasio's   criticism of the chain's prices in the Times Square area on New Year's Eve.

A delivery man for a Manhattan Domino's   was spotted  running $30 pies to revelers, and De Blasio claimed the chain was "exploiting" consumers and suggested they visit "local" joints.

"Every store in [New York City] is owned by a local resident," a Domino's spokesperson told FOX Business on Thursday. "Every employee is a local New York resident. Those stores provide jobs to thousands of his fellow citizens. With his comments, the mayor is suggesting that New Yorkers who own or work at a franchise are 'lesser than' those who don't."

De Blasio faced instant blowback for the tweet.

"Jacking up your prices on people trying to celebrate the holidays?" De Blasio wrote on   Twitter   on Wednesday. "Classy, Domino's. To the thousands who came to Times Square last night to ring in 2020, I'm sorry this corporate chain exploited you — stick it to them by patronizing one of our fantastic LOCAL pizzerias."

An   estimated 1 million people   gather in Times Square every year to see the ball drop and usher in the new year.

It's quite telling that Dominos doesnt defend the 30 dollar charge for an 9 dollar pizza, but rather says the people charging the 30 dollars are New Yorkers too.

Gee, I dont think anyone thought they drove in from Montana to sell pizzas in Times Square on New Years Eve.

Happens all the time. It's called a captive market. Every time I go to a Red Wings game I pay as much for one mixed drink as it would cost for a whole fifth. That's why I pre drink before I go in there. Any big event you are going to have that because you have no choice. Pay up or miss out.

Try ordering a pizza from one of those "local establishments" and have it delivered to Times Square on New Year's Eve.

They would just laugh at you and hang up the phone.

Domino's is already in Times Square.

Is it on the Domino's menu that they are raising their prices 350% for New Year's Eve?

That is the only way this could be defended even slightly.

Considering all the people there, that was not a surcharge, it was combat pay.

Context is your friend. You know damned we DiBlasio was referring to mom and pop shops..............

If someone doesn't want to pay the asking price, no one is forcing them to.

they can order elsewhere.

Hotels do that kind of stuff ALL the time if there is a big event in town.

Restaurants with banquet facilities often rise their minimum during the holidays, too.

Ever see bids for new roofs or other construction after a hurricane, tornado, or flood?

It's a free market. Prices are subject to change. Get over it. It's not like there was an emergency on and this was the only food available.

Slow news day, Fox and Friends?

Wait. So De Blasio is the one who makes a big deal out of it and Fox and Friends are the bad guys for covering it? Seems fair. /s

Doesn't De Blasio have congestion pricing on tolls on NYC roads?
