Stirring 'Ragged Old Flag' Super Bowl Commercial Labeled a 'Slap in the Face' to Kaepernick
That was a beautiful tribute to old Glory our beautiful American flag. It was so moving to those of us who love our country and open displays of patriotism and nationalist pride. To those who think it was a slap in the face of Kaepernick and his ilk, I say good. Slap em again harder, harder. I pledge allegiance to the flag and to the republic for which it stands. For the ultra-woke, a salute to the flag is now a personal assault.
In what might be the most repulsively reflexive moments of anti-American feeling among a disturbingly vocal segment of the population, a stirring, three-minute salute to Old Glory that aired before Sunday’s Super Bowl was getting treated by some social media commentators as a deliberate slam to the NFL’s anthem kneelers.
For the leftists, of course, it was taken as pure propaganda.
But for the sane majority of the country, the Fox video of “Ragged Old Flag,” featuring Medal of Honor recipient Marine Cpl. Kyle Carpenter , was like a shot in the arm.

In case anyone missed it on Sunday, or just wants to see it again, here’s the Fox video:
It’s one of the most popular pieces by country icon Johnny Cash, whose spoken-word ode to the Stars and Stripes was released in April 1974, a year when a bona fide impeachment investigation (as opposed to today’s partisan impeachment sham ) was roiling the country’s politics and American military involvement in Vietnam was heading toward its dispiriting end.
Despite the years that have passed since then, the imagery in the video that aired Sunday — from military monuments to archival footage of protesters burning the flag — couldn’t help but resonate with current controversies.
And that, of course, meant some liberals took it completely the wrong way — like it was a Super Bowl-sized dog whistle for racism in the United States.
But try as liberals might, it’s not easy to find racism in either the words or the video.
Do you think this video was aimed at the anthem kneelers?
Starting about the 1:20 mark, in fact, the 10 seconds or so of a black Union soldier carrying the flag while Cash intones “the South wind blew hard on that ragged old flag” is pretty much a direct repudiation of the Confederacy — and the theories of slavery and white supremacy that the Confederacy’s Democratic Party overlords proclaimed.
Fortunately for the fate of the Republic, the audience that was elated by the Fox presentation was a good deal larger than the snowflakes who melted down at the sight of patriotism.
And many were convinced that Fox was sending exactly the kind of message they could relate to — one that directly answered the anthem kneelers and the most famous face of the protest movement, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
“This old flag was a wonderful slap in the face @Kaepernick7,” one wrote. Considering the insults patriotic Americans have been subjected to in past Super Bowls ( Beyonce , anybody?) and the soft-core porn of Sunday’s halftime show with its political messaging, what Fox did is more than commendable.
A salute to the flag, and to the Republic for which it stands, isn’t a political statement, it’s a statement of fact, whether the anthem kneelers understand it or not.
American citizens owe their liberties to Founding Fathers who established this country, to the men — and sometimes women — who have fought through the years to make sure it remained free, even when that meant killing fellow Americans.
Johnny Cash recognized that. The vast majority of Fox viewers recognized that.
For the vocal but small segment of the population that didn’t, it’s well past time that the ultra-woke wake the hell up.

thank god I missed it, along with a one hour game that takes 5 hours to play. the right to protest is as absolute as the right of religious players to kneel after a touchdown or launch into some bible blabber in the post game interview.
And it makes you bitter to hear about players praising God. That’s sad. At least Kaepernick isn’t around to make secular progressives proud anymore in the NFL.

I'm pretty sure that not every expression of patriotism is about Colin Kaepernick. People (including football fans) were proud of the country and the flag long before he came along.
For the sane majority of the American people expressions of patriotism are beautiful showings of respect and admiration of our flag and all that it and our country it represents is all about. It is only the severely woke progressives who think open displays of patriotism are all about insulting Kaepernick and his fans.

I, like many of my brothers and sisters once wrote that check payable for up to and including my life, to support the people of this country and to uphold all of their rights. That includes the rights of people to say and do things that I would hold abhorrent. That also includes my right to ignore those things and not blindly follow the masses after some "media hero".
That Johnny Cash number has always brought an emotional response from me and I thought that commercial was great. I also felt the commercial was to help remind all of us what this country has done for all of us and to maybe make us a little more thoughtful about all this country has done. Even with all the bad that this country has done this is still a great country. Even with all the bad that this country still does and will do in the future we are still a great country. We can still do better, people will always find fault, but we are still a great country. I am always greatful to have been born in this country and will continue to look for ways to help this country and the people in it.
I will not respond to replies to this as while I support the rights of people to have other views as well as the right for people to make an ass of themselves, I also support the right of myself to ignore.
If it were possible, I would vote that up 100 times.
