Animated Song Videos (NO DISNEY)
We've had a lot of fun with songs with men's names, cover songs, and cheating songs. Let's do one that appeals to the kid in us all. Let's do an article focusing on animated music videos. I'm excluding Disney videos because that is just too easy and frankly there are too damn many of them. From Steamboat Willie, to the latest Frozen movie, not to mention one of my personal favorites, Fantasia, there are decades of fabulous videos from Disney, but that's not what I'm looking for here. Other than that show me what you got. That is not to say that cartoon based videos are all excluded. There are some very good ones starring Betty Boop or Felix the Cat, for example.
Some caveats; no videos that are simply a montage of album covers or just a single album cover. Stop motion, like Peter Gabriel's famous 'Sledgehammer' are great, as are claymation and full on animation. Amateur videos are fine, great in fact, I like and encourage creativity in those who have any. Combining live action with animation is fine. And, once again, for our friends who can't see youtube PLEASE post the name of the group/artist and the name of the song if you post a link to a youtube video.

Here is another Kina video that is in the stop motion style. I always wonder what happened to all the jelly beans. I'll bet you thought I was gonna post the Peter Gabriel video as a example, fooled you. But it would be great if one of you did it for all of us.

This one is a full animation video. It's by Nizlopi, JCB song. My grand daughter LOVED this song when she was little. I still do.

Perfect Two, by Auburn.
I think this is a perfect example of what I meant about amateur effort. It's linear, the illustrations are childish. Not saying I could do any better. But I just wanted to get it out there that I'm not necessarily looking for for studio level production values.

As an aside, did you know that mice, indeed rodents in general, are lactose intolerant and don't eat cheese? If you find a baby squirrel do NOT give it milk. Your vet sells a special type of formula for baby squirrels, rabbits, etc.

The song was used in one episode of Designing Women. The story line of that episode had me in tears, both happy and sad ones.
yeah, some songs can do that to you, even years later they can give you a tightness in the chest, a dampness in the eye and feeling of being pierced to the heart. They do that because of what they say, or what the conditions were when you heard them, or who you were with, or unforgettable feelings that overwhelm you when you hear them. Wooden Ships by CSN&Y does that for me, there was this girl and this was our song, she kissed with her eyes open....

It mixes real life, Harrison Ford with animation, Buck the dog.
I saw the movie a few days ago and you cannot tell the different between, Buck the animated dog and a real live dog.
There is nothing about this I don't like. It has Harrison Ford, it has dogs and wild animals, it has some SERIOUS cgi going on, it's a great book that I loved as a kid. Thanks Will have to look for this when it comes to NetFlix

This one was an ingenious hybrid back in the day that I still enjoy quite a bit.
Take on Me, by AHa. When this video came out it wowed me, and everyone else who saw it of course. Great video and a good song too. It's none linear, the story in the animation really has nothing to do with the song but still it speaks volumes.

I'm going to tell you a big secret that only several dozen people here and at NV know, my last name is Barrow. And believe me, I much preferred Wheel to 'Clyde'. Although my cousin drove a Barracuda and he became 'Barrow-cuda', which got shorted to just 'Cuda', which I like a lot.

I remember it. Haven't seen it in a hundred years. Me and my Arrow.
I do. I named my giant Siamese cat Arrow because of that song. When she was 3, some asshole shot her between the eyes with an arrow. I nursed her for 6 weeks and she pulled through. That was when I got interested in Herbal medicine because a friend of mine recommended using comfrey.
People can be such assholes. There was a farmer here in my county was working with buffalo to breed beefalos. That was something that didn't get anywhere but my point is we used to love to drive by his pasture and see the buffaloes out there. It was a pretty cool sight and our county doesn't exactly have a lot of huge attractions. You can probably guess the rest, he had to get rid of the buffaloes because assholes driving by were taking pot shots at them. Several got wounded, one got killed.

I was talking about how the rest of the family is pretending to be what they're not when they're taking pictures, out in public, like that. But when no one is watching they're real, smoking pot, secret drinking, cheating. It seemed to me that the theme of the video is how people present one face to the world and another face entirely in private.
But I get what you mean too.

Very good video. Lot's going on. The scene with the scorpion and the woman in the casket seemed like Re-animation, so kudos on an interesting take on animation. It's not just cartoons you know. And the unraveling at the end, kind of tells how the story between them ends. I noticed the he unraveled, but she did not. Very true to life in relationships I've observed. At the end, when she decides she's had enough, it's him that comes undone, not her.

The White Stripes - 'Seven Nation Army'

I've seen some very interesting interpretations of what this song means. Jack White says it stems from his misunderstanding of the name of the Salvation Army when he was very young. As a toddler he called it 'seven nation army' and the song is about how many of his so called friends reacted to his success as a performer.
I have a nephew named Swanson, when my son was little he couldn't say Swanson, he called him 'That one' so I can easily see how a kid could mis-perceive a complicated word like salvation as seven nation.
I've seen some pretty far out interpretations too. For instance that it referred to the biblical story about the 7 nation army and the conquest of Canaan. Lots of things that have no relation to the song except for having something to do with the word seven.
I'm comfortable with the meaning that Jack puts on it, it's his song after all. But ultimately songs are subjective and so they mean what they mean to US the listener, if you get something else from it, cool. It means whatever it means to you.
I read that he is advocating revenge, anger and ultimately seeking peace of mind.. However, three lines before each song-bridge are interesting:
The lead and his 'partner' (duo) seems to want to go return home and settle down (before he, the two of them, do some serious damage to their critics!).
yeah, that's pretty much the way I see it too. He's achieved a measure of success after a lot of hard work and the people who should be on his side...aren't.

sci-fi nerds are NOT the most enlightened group of dudes on Earth. Back when this movie was made this was as close as lot of those incels, (also not a word back then) ever got to a pretty girl.

So this is the song that my daughter wants to use as her first dance with her new hubby at her wedding. I find it a bit sad and bitter-sweet, but the song is called "Married Life" from the movie "Up" and she loves it. The cartoon's story is told just from the music.
That was a good movie, much better than I anticipated from the trailers. That video was so bittersweet, I think it could be used as a definition of poignancy. Good luck to your daughter and her new husband

There are lot of stories and myths behind and about this song. Bob Marley was the original artist and writer although the Eric Clapton version is most well known. There was even a movie loosely based on it.
The most coherent story, and therefore the most likely not to be true in my opinion, is that the sheriff killed his deputy in a dispute and tried to pin it on someone else. The sheriff then tried to kill the man he had framed before he could dispute the story and to prevent a deeper investigation. The man killed the sheriff in the scrum.
I do know that Time Square is often a prison slang expression that means the prisoner intake facility where inmates are processed before being assigned to a cell or pod. It was a place of maximum confusion and clangor, thus Times Square. Whereas after processing a prisoner was sent to the Promised Land, in other words a quieter, less riotous, (hopefully) dorm or pod or cell.
Marley said it was about discrimination and violence against black people by law enforcement. Colin Kapernak is following in a grand tradition then.
Either way, great song, meaningful and good video.
It is an amazingly long-lived song. Actually, when I listened to this baseline on this track I was excited one about the animation and that this song still has a strong pull. As a kid I heard the original version by Mr. Marley and even then thought how bad "ass" it is to suggest and act on shooting a sheriff, but involve the deputy too?!!!
I understand Bob Marley never really clarified the mystery of the song's meaning. However, what can explain its long run as a classic? Huh?

On the other hand, when we were in England, my aunt got the girls hooked onI the Teletubbies. I wasn't that worried since then it was a Brit show, but 1 month later, PBS had it here in the US and I was driven mad. Although I did find it amusing that some people thought one of the Teletubbies was gay and that this was some sort of plot to brainwash the kids. Too funny.

Transform, I rather liked this one. Both the song and the video.
Soliton, not so much. It's like someone read a high school physics book, understood about one word in 4 and then wrote a song about it.
I love "Transform" too. I am confused though. As I am unfamiliar with this troupe of artists. This actor, "Rabbit" Bennett may have been a male once? The bio says a gender change occurred, so I am assuming it goes from male to female. She is/has an identical twin in the troupe. Any help understanding this phenomenal group would be well-received.
"Soliton" is interesting to me, because that singer is so talented. And the video is not half bad either!
Okay! I found something about Rabbit Bennett. He was born Bunny Bennett and male. He is transgendered. (Kind of explain the various voice inflections when speaking and singing. Still, beautiful singing, nevertheless!) See here if interested.

When he was in about 2nd grade I went to a PTA meeting. His teacher and I talked about how he was doing, what he did well, what he needed work on. Then she told me, "When we sing in class I always get JT to start the song." I got all puffed up, yeah, that's my boy! Then she said, "He isn't my best singer, but he is my LOUDEST singer." Let the air right out. Yup, that my boy all right.
Oh goodness. Are you both tone-deaf??!! I hope not. As a student of music, I once heard from a tone-deaf 'vocalist' and once was enough! By golly a, "been thar and got my t-shirt' moment. Blah! (Chuckles.)
Apparently we are tone deaf. One of my best friends play bass and guitar and sings sometimes in a band. We work together and when a song I like comes on the radio when I start to sing along he gets this really pained look and tells me 'Please don't sing. You can't stick to one note.' So I guess that's it.

It is a story that has been told an infinite number of times, and yet it never gets old. How can it? Boy meets girl and they fall in love and can't stand being apart. It's not hi-tech so much, but it ain't disaster-stricken either! (I have logged some really sick disaster animation that's 'out there' and nothing tender about it.) (Chuckles.)
The lines and angst in your video offering reminds me of another. So, . . .here is som' mo'(!): Does it check all the boxes? Yes, I think so.

For a while I couldn't think of a song that wasn't Disney, and finally I remembered Shrek. After that I thought about The Lion King.
Not sure about Smoke Gets In Your Eyes. I thought she just left, after his not believing others questioning her loyalty, rather than cheating, but then what about Boots Of Spanish Leather? Think of The Tennessee Waltz being the same. I think of cheating as remaining with someone while cheating on them.
That makes sense. Boots is definitely a song about drifting apart.
