The Trump White House faced widespread criticism on Tuesday after Vice President Mike Pence conducted a press briefing on the coronavirus outbreak, but members of the media were not allowed to record video or audio.
The administration ― which only last week vowed to be “ aggressively transparent ” with the public about the spread of the virus that has now killed nine people in the U.S. ― only allowed still photographs to be taken, CNN’s Jim Acosta and other journalists in attendance tweeted.
“I asked Pence why the Coronavirus briefing is off camera today. He said he believes the briefing will be back on cam tomorrow,” Acosta later posted, noting “the closest thing to an explanation we got” was “when Pence said Trump was on camera a bunch today.”
Obama-era White House chief photographer Pete Souza said he “can’t ever remember a time when a VP or POTUS spoke in the White House press briefing room and video/audio was prohibited.”
“It’s like they’re imploding,” added Walter Shaub, the former head of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics.
The Trump administration’s coronavirus response has been widely criticized as disorganized and slow. Trump himself has repeatedly sought to downplay the risks, sometimes with outright falsehoods .

The biggest concern that most Americans have concerning the coronavirus is obviously that they want to watch the play by play of the committee meetings (sarcasm for those unable to identify it)- but for me I just they or someone they are providing money and guidance too comes up with the treatment protocol and a vaccine.

Our government works for us, is paid by us and is placed in position by us. If the government wants to hide what it is allegedly doing on our behalf, we don't have much of a government.

If every other white house allowed video or audio to be recorded at briefings, and this one didnt, it is a notable anomaly, and such explanations as "get over it" carry little weight, and seem more like excuse making.

Experts baffled as Trump asks why they can't just use flu vaccines to prevent coronavirus
Donald Trump appears to be even more confused than ever bout coronavirus.
In a series of videos actually released by the White House, Trump can be seen getting increasingly more confused by the experts in the room, who are patiently trying to explain very very basic concepts to the president.
During one segment, he seems incapable of understanding how long it actually takes to formulate a vaccine, repeatedly suggesting "a couple months" should be the timeframe, because he "likes that better" than the actual realistic year-and-a-half estimate he's given.
Trump's response? A baffling "that's a good idea". (Good idea to rush and screw it up? Good idea to mention this? WHAT??)
But perhaps the weirdest of all was when he thought that he – a mediocre business person – may have come up with the solution to a complex global pandemic which no medical professional could ever have thought of:
Let's recap. A "solid" (whatever that means) flu vaccine. For the flu.
To stop "corona", as he calls it. Which is... a completely different type of virus. Otherwise it would be called flu. That's how words (and science) work.
So what impact would a flu shot have? "Probably none," Trump is told. For obvious reasons. The president responds:

For context, researchers have been trying to develop a vaccine against HIV since the 1980s. Does that sound simple to you? Us neither. So Mr. Trump is throwing ideas out there (like all businessmen do) to get them to think outside the box. Is there anywhere, if there is I can't find it, anything that shows they tried using any other flu type vaccines and see if there are any results?? After all, they have all been tested already so there should be no need to wait for lengthy testing. Why not give it a shot? And maybe they have.
On a side note, how ARE they treating those that do survive? I have read in many cases, the unfortunate deaths in the US have cited "other health conditions" as contributing to the deaths

Everyone, including the pundits on here say it's going to take a year to year and a half to develop and safely and adequately test. Trump is letting them know that that is an unacceptable time frame and wants some extra effort put in. Even at that, by the time it's developed, the threat, for this year at least hopefully, will be gone and we/they will be able to use it the next breakout. This year will be in the rearview mirror.............................

They have $3billion for research and development and for $3B there had better not be the old adage of "A job will take as long as the time allotted for it". That goes out the door with the funding.

No one said anything about taking shortcuts. We are spending OUR money ($3B) to get to the bottom of this and Mr. Trump wants no dilly dallying in the process. And, as stated, if the vaccine takes as long as the pundits are saying, it isn't going to do much good for this outbreak but will be ready, hopefully, for the next. China, the origination of the outbreak, is already seeing reductions in cases every day.

When Fauci and others told him so, about the shortcuts, etc., tRump essentially said, 'That's not what I wanted to hear' hence why he has them gagged now from using video and audio. Not that proof swayed tRump supporters in the first place.
It's a shame 'president' tRump has been doing so much dilly dallying and dismantling the global pandemic task force that President Obama put together.

That comment makes no sense whatsoever. We've been over and over and over the reasons for dismantling and it doesn't make two shits difference in where we are now. This is a new, and tougher it seems, virus to crack. I really don't think any more prep would have sped it up any quantifiable amount. It still took the world by surprise and former full team in place or not, it couldn't and wouldn't be stopped. The administration started action in January with the travel ban which probably saved many the discomfort and possibility of succumbing to the disease while in the back ground, things were starting to come together.
Another note. Many don't like the US being the world police. They should take care of themselves. So now we are the world's hospital and research center? Yes, we should do our best to help all people but, how much money and resources do you suppose other infected countries are spending parallel to ours? Or are they doing what they can waiting for big brother to come up with the solution?

Trump Claims Thousands Could Still Go To Work With Coronavirus And Get Better
President Donald Trump suggested during an interview on Fox News Wednesday that many people with mild coronavirus symptoms could still go to work and get better. This goes against advice from medical professionals around the world who say that infected individuals should remain in isolation.
“A lot of people will have this and it’s very mild. They’ll get better very rapidly. They don’t even see a doctor, they don’t even call a doctor. You never hear about those people,” Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “So you can’t put them down in the category of the overall population in terms of this corona flu and or virus. So you just can’t do that. So, if you know, we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work. Some of them go to work, but they get better.”
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance states that people with COVID-19 who do not need hospitalization should restrict all activities outside the home excluding seeking medical care.
“Do not go to work, school or public areas. Avoid using public transportation, ride-sharing or taxis,” CDC advises.
A growing number of businesses, including Twitter, Amazon and Microsoft, have asked employees to work from home in a bid to limit the spread of the disease. The World Health Organization , as well as dozens of governments and health organizations around the world, have also asked infected people to isolate themselves.
While most people who contract the illness have mild symptoms, 1 in 5 people with COVID-19 infection will need hospital care, WHO states on its website. Older people and those with preexisting medical conditions are more susceptible to contracting the SARS-CoV-2 infection (the virus that causes COVID-19), and may suffer a severe or fatal case. That's ironic because Trump and Azar only asked for $2.5 billion. Oh and neither Azar or any of the Pharma companies said anything about a need for federal funding to develop a vaccine. Azar told Congress that the Administration has no intention of ensuring that the vaccine will be affordable for all.
Yet we will be spending OUR money and now it sure as hell looks like we are going to be paying TWICE for the vaccine, once to develop it and again to actually have it administered.

The total package approved by and yet to be signed by Mr. Trump, he will, is $8B $3B of which is for research and development. How are we going to pay twice? However, while you could go to work, that doesn't mean you should go to work.
The American people are funding that 3 Billion and unless the vaccine is free, they'll [we] will be paying for it TWICE.
Well 300 million will cover about 10 million doses so that will cover less than 20% of those uninsured. That doesn't take into account those who are underinsured whose plans won't cover the vaccine.

All this does is pay, up front, for the R&D into the vaccine. It is no different than paying high prices for proprietary drugs of any kind. The R&D costs are added to the pricing structure of the drug. Thus, a tiny pill for RA, while actual relative pennies to produce, a person pays $15 a pill for. THAT is why we still have to pay for the "production" of the drug. In my business, we charge for R&D and even a prototype of the product and make the customer pay for costs incurred so that the time, effort, and money we spent is covered should they decide to go to a cheaper supplier (basically and manufacturing "generic" of the original).
And I am sure that there will be those not covered who wish to have it. That is what the $300M is for. All they are doing is greasing the "we don't know what it's going to cost" wheel.......................

I had a boss once whose statement was always "You can come to work and accomplish a little or you can stay home and accomplish nothing."
I remember a boss who was like "if you want to work, then you come to work." By that, he meant, "if you want to keep this job, you better show up, because on the day that you don't, I'll give your job to someone else."
They DO have a pretty good idea of what production and dosage will cost. The CDC has a price list online for the Influenza vaccine. That vaccine is tailored to the 'best guess' of the virus on a year to year basis. It's around $1.50 per dose to the CDC and up to $3.00 to the 'private sector'. Pretty sure that the cost includes R&D and production. Yet the 'private sector' CHARGES $30 to $50 per shot. There is no reason to believe that a CORVID-19 vaccine would 'cost' any more.
BTW, the House had a hearing yesterday and were told that the R&D has already been done on a SARS vaccine, that can be readily adapted for trials on CORVID-19. For a month, the researcher has been BEGGING the CDC, HHS or a PARMA company to fast track funding for it. No takers.
Then IMHO they were idiots. If you work in close groups, it just means the whole crew gets sick and the whole project gets shut down. One guy coughing in a truck and all 5 of us are down for the count. Oh and having sick sales people turns off clients.
