White House plans to wind down coronavirus task force in coming weeks
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House plans to wind down its coronavirus task force in coming weeks, the New York Times reported on Tuesday, adding it is not clear whether another group might replace the task force headed by Vice President Mike Pence and made up of health and logistics officials.
Officials in President Donald Trump’s administration are telling task force members and their staff to expect the group to wind down within weeks, according to the Times. Reuters did not immediately confirm the report.
The task force will finish up as the White House moves toward the first phase of Trump’s plan to reopen the country after many states ordered people to stay at home in order to slow the spread of the potentially deadly coronavirus, the Times said, citing an anonymous official. The focus will now be on therapeutics, vaccines and other treatments.
Formed in March, the task force met frequently to address the rapidly spreading pandemic and then explained its work in nightly news briefings with Trump that often spanned more than an hour. The group’s infectious disease expert, Anthony Fauci, became a household name across the country. While the briefings have stopped, Pence hosted a task-force meeting on Tuesday morning, according to the White House.
Trump is going for a new approach to the pandemic that has brought us 70,000 dead Americans
Snort!
back on the blow, R we ?
appears to be a Crack, in your explanation.
That's a lie. News services were the 1st to bring it to our attention.
The seed for the task force ending was planted when Trump stood in front of the world and mused whether it would be a good idea to inject disinfectant into people's bodies.
On that day it became clear Trump was making a fool out of himself ( many of us knew long before that) and so there was no justification in his mind or his advisers minds for the task force any more.
Considering who leads the task force, it really is a wasted effort. The people on the team need to go where they can be most useful. Under Trump they are just spinning their wheels.
The CDC is predicting that deaths will spike tremendously over the next month. Now is not the time for the government to go into hiding.
though Trump should, and for good, and the good of the country
When did they come out of hiding? States are doing all the work.
The President runs the government not Pelosi!
And he is there. SCOTUS is even in virtual "session". And the Senate in person. Where the hell are the members of the House? Safe spaces.
