LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Country music group Lady Antebellum on Thursday changed its name to Lady A, saying it regretted its blindspot over the name's association with a time of slavery in the United States. The trio, one of the most successful in country music, said in an open letter that they took the name 14 years ago after the Southern antebellum style home where they took their first photos. "But we are regretful and embarrassed to say that we did not take into account the associations that weigh down this word referring to the period of history before the Civil War, which includes slavery. I have to wonder about all these people who thought it was ok to portray this or that with racial connotations three weeks ago, but now they are so moved by the death of one man that they just have to change the name of their music group or stop using certain advertising, or stop using products with negative connotations about racial minorities, or demand that confederate statues and portraits be taken down in the halls of Congress.
Why did it take the death of George Floyd to make Lady Antebellum be concerned about their name? If the name was problematical it was so a month ago as well.
Now "racism" is the number one trending topic in the country, and millions of people are literally changing their opinions right in front of our eyes and acknowledging that racism has been damaging our country for ....for... well forever (since Columbus landed and exploited and stole from the natives on Hispanolia.) I guess God does work in mysterious ways.

Time to remove the word from the dictionary too !
Washington, D.C. is changing its name to King, D.C., and Denzell Washington is following suit - Denzell King. Washington State will instead change its name to Evers State, to prevent confusion.
