- The US Small Business Administration granted 3,500 Paycheck Protection Program loans to Catholic bodies, totalling between $1.4 billion and $3.5 billion.
- One of the church's financial associations said in May that many more organizations — up to 9,000 — got loans, which could drive the estimated total higher still.
- Religious groups usually don't qualify for SBA loans, but a loophole was imposed after sustained lobbying.
This is our taxpayer money being used by our Socialist government to bailout a "not-for-profit" organization.

Ain't Socialism grand?
3,500 loans were granted to Catholic entities at various levels — including individual parishes and dioceses, as well as schools, the AP said. The total came to between $1.4 billion and $3.5 billion.
Its analysis suggested the true figure could be higher still thanks to other loans which were not registered in the latest data.
The scale of these loans was unclear, but the church's Diocesan Fiscal Management Conference said on May 8 that 9,000 Catholic bodies had been awarded loans — more than twice the number accounted for by the AP.
Since they have paid out billions in the sexual abuse cases filed against them, this is probably going to help them pay off the next wave of lawsuits.
Here’s how the Catholic Church got $1.4 billion in Paycheck Protection Program money
Surprise, surprise.
That .... is clearly wrong and total BS if true. Now, how many non religious businesses did the same sort of things with money they got?
A lot I bet.
Supposedly, at some point the loans are supposed to be reviewed and determined to be the small business grants they were intended to be,
or repayment plans will be drawn up.
It will be interesting to see;
If that plan works,
and who has to repay large loans...
Yes, it is wrong and they should never have received any funds to start with.
No idea, we'd have to find the businesses that had to pay out large monetary settlements for the sexual abuse they were found guilty of.
I disagree and i’m not interested in any bullshit arguments about separation of church and state because in this case it is bullshit.
Yeah, no axe to grind on other misuses of those funds but grind away on your narrative. Got it
Sadly you didn't get it at all. Nice try though.
Cheers
Right back at ya there buddy.
Enjoy!
Why are we giving the RCC whose net worth is estimated to be around 15 billion U.S. dollars any money to begin with? Even the Pope himself is worth some 25 million. So much for the vow of poverty.
Lol .. I noticed they are careful to use Catholic “bodies” for most of the article. You really want some traction with this story show us what “Catholic bodies” got aid. How many were catholic based food pantries for example. Surely you can’t have an issue with those getting help can you?
otherwise this article just comes off as anti religion propaganda.
But .... SOSDD I suppose
It's people who have no idea what PPP is basically. Bigots got to bigot.
And haters gotta hate ..... well .... same same I guess.
I guess the idiots on 4chan were right, the US government does support pedophile rings.
Correct:
