Colorado Gov. Jared PolisJared Schutz PolisColorado governor stands by saying 'you're a selfish bastard' if you refuse to wear a maskProtesters surround Aurora Police precinct after photos emerge of officers mocking Elijah McClain's deathOfficer involved in taking pictures mocking Elijah McClain resignsMORE (D) is standing by a recent post he shared on Facebook over the weekend calling anyone who refuses to wear a mask to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 a "selfish bastard."
In the Facebook post published on Sunday, the governor wrote, "The emerging scientific data is clear: wearing a mask doesn't only protect others, it also significantly reduces your own risk of getting Coronavirus. So if you're a selfish bastard and wearing a mask to protect others isn't enough of a reason to do so, then maybe protecting yourself is?"
The post also featured a link to an article published by the University of California, Davis, in which Dean Blumberg, who serves as chief of pediatric infectious diseases at UC Davis Children's Hospital, said research shows that wearing a mask can reduce one's risk of becoming infected by 65 percent.
When pressed about his Facebook post at a press briefing on Tuesday, Polis said the purpose of his message was to highlight that "even if you don't care about the health of other people, wearing a mask reduces your own risk of getting coronavirus by about two-thirds."
He went on to say that the recent post was just one of a number of methods of communication he has used in recent weeks to convince people to wear masks.
"That means direct, it means humor, it means appeals to people's patriotism, both with regard to their pride of being Americans as well as their pride of being Coloradans," he said.
"Everybody makes their decisions differently. Some react to humor, some react to blunt statements, some to react to data, some react to peer pressure," he said, adding: "There's no one way to convince people to wear masks. I want to engage in every way I can to convince people to wear masks."
According to the latest state health data, more than 37,000 COVID-19 cases have been counted in Colorado so far in addition to more than 1,500 deaths.
Though Polis has continued to urge residents to wear masks in public to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, he has stopped short of making it a requirement.
During his briefing on Tuesday, Polis said that, "like most Coloradans, I believe in bodily autonomy" and that he believes "people should make their own choices."
However, he also said he realizes the matter is not so cut and dry, saying "the reason this issue is more complex is not so much about just your rights."
"It's also about protecting the right to live of those impacted by your decisions," he added.
Don't blame me if people think you're a selfish jerk!
I’m proud to be called a selfish bastard by the likes of him.
I'm not surprised. what with all the persecution you "Christians" suffer in the United States!
First you get unceasingly persecuted (for your faith) then you have to be considerate of other people ...sheesh!...what would Jesus do?

Besides being selfish, call them what they are.... Faux-Patriots..... as they put themselves ahead of everything including this country.
Do you care if you have the virus and not know it that you could be spreading it to others? Do you think God would approve of your selfishness?
Save your bandwidth TG..... So many of those that claim "personal freedom" could give a shit about defending the people and country that those personal freedoms and way of life come from.
It really bothers me that these "so-called" Christians think that God ok with their selfishness.
Isn't there a layer in Hell reserved for the selfish?
it's hell's sewer...
I wash my hands and use the other precautions including social distancing. I only wear a mask indoors where social distancing is impossible and only as long as those conditions exist. Masks otherwise are an authoritarian tool for control and must be defied.
The point was effectively made! 👍👏🇺🇸
that governor, along with many other blue state governors, demonstrated a more effective and faster response to this crisis than the useless jag-off in the white house that has yet to provide any leadership or national program to deal with covid-19.
I’m proud to be called a selfish bastard by the likes of him.
You own it huh?
When a progressive left politician or one of their fans call me that it’s a badge of honor.
We'll give him credit for at least that much
Well, i wouldn't be surprised if there are many more who wouldn't mind being called selfish by Jesus (or for that matter by another god or gods)
Wonder what our Guv calls those guys in the tent city across Lincoln Avenue from the Capitol Building? Hero's or victims of some sort?
The pic was taken on January 6th and now the whole square block has filled up since Mayor Hancock ordered the police to stop enforcing the "camping" ban
There are also several tents along 8th Avenue right by the governor's mansion a few block south and east of the Capitol.
No masks, no hand washing, stinky porta-potty's abound, drug paraphernalia and needles laying about.
Local workers avoid the area now, and visiting tourists must be horrified that such things are allowed in our Democrat led city.

What a bunch of selfish bastards!
It is good to see a politician standing by his words!
It's refreshing to see a politician tell it like it is. Good on Gov. Polis!
He is correct. Good on him.
"he has stopped short of making it a requirement.
During his briefing on Tuesday, Polis said that, "like most Coloradans, I believe in bodily autonomy" and that he believes "people should make their own choices."
This is good.

I mean there is a solution. Hard to believe but there are Trump 2020 and MAGA face masks available. Buy a few for your Republican friends - well frienemies . Anything to get them in a mask.
Just a thought - there is a Donald Trump Store that sells all things Trump and posts Trump propaganda. I wonder if Trump gets a cut? If he does, isn't it funny that the store sells face masks?

Found a Chiefs mask online last week and I now look a little like Pat.
Please spank yourself for even asking the question.
Maybe you should have directed your reply to Dean instead of jbb.
Yes we are and we celebrate it too in this case!
If I wore a mask I’d wear a Re elect Trump 2020 one or a MAGA one and see if they still wanted me to wear it.
No longer living in California, are you?
I saw a co-worker with a Steelers mask on this morning!
My wife has made me a number of Blackhawk masks. She's been looking for KC Chiefs material as well but with little luck.
Ow! Ow! Can I stop now? Ow!
Yep - any mask I can live with "literally".
You'll get spit on, or your ASS BEAT by the "Tolerant Left", if they catch you wearing one. Why would one want to put their family in Jeopardy, with folks like that running around.
We'd have a better chance of getting home walking in a Dark Alley at 2am.
I saw a meme on an anti maskers feed that promoted this , but the meme said the minute people start doing it , the need for masks would be recinded .
Nope. I still live in the state of Jefferson
Can you point it out on a map? I can't seem to find it.

Good?
Heck-- I wouldn't call it good-- I'd call it excellent!
And the results speak for themselves:
U.S. reports record 67,400 single-day spike of new coronavirus cases
That seems like an odd choice. If he really means it, he should make it a requirement. Other governors have.
But ..... Shaming should work, since he doesn't want to "Put himself " out their for reticule .
Someone's small handbag ?
Spil Chicers are soooo cute !
Clutch ?
I wish Cobalt were here...she would take that pun and run with it
She would, lol.

Ah-- so that's why he's such a strong advocate of "a woman's right to choose"!
Yep...I call people who don't wear masks selfish, self-centered, it's all about me, me, me, ignorant, egotistical assholes.
Trump voters need two bags in case one falls off...
Polis is absolutely right, but I believe most studies show that it is not that effective to prevent the wearer from contracting the virus, but it is relatively more effective in preventing the wearer from spreading it. It is common courtesy to wear one when out, just in case the wearer is asymptomatic or is during incubation when the symptoms are not obvious, wherein both of those cases it is still likely that one can spread the virus to others. Even if the wearer is perfectly healthy, wearing a mask still makes those people around him/her feel more comfortable and secure.
Well if you should only wear masks to be considerate of others...why bother?
(What would Jesus do?)
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ
Who are you? What have you sacrificed?
I don't think he's wrong, but there's probably a classier way to say it. Few will care, though, because this guy belongs to the same party as most of the media. If a Republican said it, it would be a scandal.
It may not be the right language to use when speaking to considerate people who make sacrifices to make sure others will be okay, but it probably is the right language to use when speaking to those who care not about the well being of others but only about themselves.
Yes, there is always a "good reason" why the rules should apply to some, but not others.
It would more likely be a heart attack-invoking surprise that concern for the health and welfare of others had been exhibited. Concern for others isn't a trait that has been embraced or encouraged by Donald Trump.
Trump, in full reversal, urges Americans to wear masks
Would you like to lie down?
It's about damn time he did something right!
yeah, 6 months too late. what a fucking incompetent moron.
But is he doing it because he's so interested in doing something right-- or has his handlers have finsally allowed him to look at the #s of new virus cases in awing states?
And quite possibly he's even looked at the poll numbers!!!
At this point the "why" doesn't even matter
Nah...I would applaud the Republican for telling the truth for once
Meh.
I think people who refuse to wear a mask do so for two reasons. The first is to show solidarity with Trump. It's MAGA baby. Unfortunately, as more and more accounts show up about the mask refusers acting like fools and idiots that bad karma rolls back up on Trump and he is floundering badly right now.
The second reason they wont wear a mask is to protest against progressives. They think the progressive mindset wants to control their every breath. They cant separate the scientific value in wearing a mask from their hatred of progressives.
The wearing of a mask at this point should be considered the patriotic duty by every American at this point.
We are at war with this virus. Nobody posting here can remember the sacrifices made by the entire population in WWII with respect to rationing, and scrap drives, and grease collections. Do something for your country for a change.
Since I am asymptomatic I wear the mask to provide some kind of protection to myself...and to avoid the stink eye of social justice warriors.
Asymptomatic only means that you are not showing symptoms even though you have tested positive. It has been proven that asymptomatic Covid patients are the biggest spreaders of the virus. Mask or no mask, you shouldn't even be in public until you have tested negative twice.
Everyone that isn’t infected is also asymptomatic.
Definition of asymptomatic
: presenting no symptoms of disease
I haven't tested yet, and see no reason to. No symptoms like coughing, no fever, take temps at least twice a day.
I could go down to the Pepsi Center a couple of miles away, and get a free test, but what's the point.
Asymptomatic
I would rather have a mask order than the idiot in Georgia that had an executive order that banned all city mask ordinances.
It is starting to seem like some of these republicans do not care if people are getting sick or not.
I don't need to be told to wear a mask.
People want to call me a jerk or selfish , makes no difference to me , because everyones situation is different .
It is ultimately me who makes the choice to wear or not to wear a mask , I live in a state and an area where there is no mandatory mask order .
times I will wear a mask? in situations where I am in a crowd and social distancing is impossible to maintain, if in a crowd and distancing can be maintained , I will have it on hand on my person , it takes mere seconds to put on .again it is I who will evaluate the risks and make the choice . I will also wear it if a store or business mandated it for entry.
Times I wont wear a mask? it is again situation based , if im working in my own yard or garden and I am alone no need for a mask , If I am driving in a vehicle alone and unless im on my motorcycle no mask needed the mask while on the bike actually isn't a bad idea to keep the bugs out of ones teeth.
Because I live in a mainly rural area that is sparkly populated social distancing is not hard to maintain.
So if you see me or someone else without a mask on , take a good look at the situation , is it actually needed for what the person is doing ? a little common sense goes a long way.
You make valid points. I don't wear one in my house or my yard but I live in the center of 3 acres surrounded by trees so I'm not concerned with social distancing. I don't wear one in my car. I don't wear them around my family or friends.
I do wear one at work when I'm coming and going and I wear one in stores.
Well your using your own common sense and likely have evaluated the risks that you personally face..
Gov. Polis Issues Statewide Face Mask Order
Governor Hutchinson in Arkansas just issued one yesterday
We kind of got off on the wrong foot when Dr Fauci told the nation that face masks were not necessary and could put people at risk because masks cause people to touch their faces more.
