Colorado governor stands by saying 'you're a selfish bastard' if you refuse to wear a mask
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) is standing by a recent post he shared on Facebook over the weekend calling anyone who refuses to wear a mask to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 a "selfish bastard."

Colorado Gov. Jared PolisJared Schutz PolisColorado governor stands by saying 'you're a selfish bastard' if you refuse to wear a maskProtesters surround Aurora Police precinct after photos emerge of officers mocking Elijah McClain's deathOfficer involved in taking pictures mocking Elijah McClain resignsMORE (D) is standing by a recent post he shared on Facebook over the weekend calling anyone who refuses to wear a mask to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 a "selfish bastard."

In the Facebook post published on Sunday, the governor wrote, "The emerging scientific data is clear: wearing a mask doesn't only protect others, it also significantly reduces your own risk of getting Coronavirus. So if you're a selfish bastard and wearing a mask to protect others isn't enough of a reason to do so, then maybe protecting yourself is?"

The post also featured a link to an article published by the University of California, Davis, in which Dean Blumberg, who serves as chief of pediatric infectious diseases at UC Davis Children's Hospital, said research shows that wearing a mask can reduce one's risk of becoming infected by 65 percent.

When pressed about his Facebook post at a press briefing on Tuesday, Polis said the purpose of his message was to highlight that "even if you don't care about the health of other people, wearing a mask reduces your own risk of getting coronavirus by about two-thirds."

He went on to say that the recent post was just one of a number of methods of communication he has used in recent weeks to convince people to wear masks.

"That means direct, it means humor, it means appeals to people's patriotism, both with regard to their pride of being Americans as well as their pride of being Coloradans," he said.

"Everybody makes their decisions differently. Some react to humor, some react to blunt statements, some to react to data, some react to peer pressure," he said, adding: "There's no one way to convince people to wear masks. I want to engage in every way I can to convince people to wear masks."

According to the latest state health data, more than 37,000 COVID-19 cases have been counted in Colorado so far in addition to more than 1,500 deaths.

Though Polis has continued to urge residents to wear masks in public to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, he has stopped short of making it a requirement.

During his briefing on Tuesday, Polis said that, "like most Coloradans, I believe in bodily autonomy" and that he believes "people should make their own choices."

However, he also said he realizes the matter is not so cut and dry, saying "the reason this issue is more complex is not so much about just your rights."

"It's also about protecting the right to live of those impacted by your decisions," he added.

I'm not surprised. what with all the persecution you "Christians" suffer in the United States!

First you get unceasingly persecuted (for your faith) then you have to be considerate of other people ...sheesh!...what would Jesus do?

I wash my hands and use the other precautions including social distancing.  I only wear a mask indoors where social distancing is impossible and only as long as those conditions exist. Masks otherwise are an authoritarian tool for control and must be defied.

Wonder what our Guv calls those guys in the tent city across Lincoln Avenue from the Capitol Building? Hero's or victims of some sort?

The pic was taken on January 6th and now the whole square block has filled up since Mayor Hancock ordered the police to stop enforcing the "camping" ban

There are also several tents along 8th Avenue right by the governor's mansion a few block south and east of the Capitol.

No masks, no hand washing, stinky porta-potty's abound, drug paraphernalia and needles laying about.

Local workers avoid the area now, and visiting tourists must be horrified that such things are allowed in our Democrat led city.

Polis is absolutely right, but I believe most studies show that it is not that effective to prevent the wearer from contracting the virus, but it is relatively more effective in preventing the wearer from spreading it.  It is common courtesy to wear one when out, just in case the wearer is asymptomatic or is during incubation when the symptoms are not obvious, wherein both of those cases it is still likely that one can spread the virus to others.  Even if the wearer is perfectly healthy, wearing a mask still makes those people around him/her feel more comfortable and secure.

I think people who refuse to wear a mask do so for two reasons. The first is to show solidarity with Trump. It's MAGA baby.  Unfortunately, as more and more accounts show up about the mask refusers acting like fools and idiots that bad karma rolls back up on Trump and he is floundering badly right now.

The second reason they wont wear a mask is to protest against progressives. They think the progressive mindset wants to control their every breath. They cant separate the scientific value in wearing a mask from their hatred of progressives.

Asymptomatic only means that you are not showing symptoms even though you have tested positive.  It has been proven that asymptomatic Covid patients are the biggest spreaders of the virus.  Mask or no mask, you shouldn't even be in public until you have tested negative twice.

Definition of asymptomatic

from Webster’s dictionary.

You forgot to add that the definition was from a 1913 edition.
:   having or showing no symptoms of disease
  • You should continue to take the medication, even when you are   asymptomatic . [=even when you do not have any pain or other signs that you are sick]

Asymptomatic

In medicine, a disease is considered asymptomatic if a patient is a carrier for a disease or infection but experiences no symptoms. A condition might be asymptomatic if it fails to show the noticeable symptoms with which it is usually associated. Asymptomatic infections are also called subclinical infections. Other diseases might be considered subclinical if they present some but not all of the symptoms required for a clinical diagnosis. The term clinically silent is also used.

People want to call me a jerk or selfish , makes no difference to me , because everyones situation is different .

It is ultimately me who makes the choice to wear or not to wear a mask , I live in a state and an area where there is no mandatory mask order .

times I will wear a mask? in situations where I am in a crowd and social distancing is impossible to maintain, if in a crowd and distancing can be maintained , I will have it on hand on my person , it takes mere seconds to put on .again it is I who will evaluate the risks and make the choice . I will also wear it if a store or business mandated it for entry.

Times I wont wear a mask? it is again situation based , if im working in my own yard or garden and I am alone  no need for a mask , If I am driving in a vehicle alone  and unless im on my motorcycle no mask needed the mask while on the bike actually isn't a bad idea to keep the bugs out of ones teeth.

Because I live in a mainly rural area  that is sparkly  populated social distancing is not hard to maintain.

So if you see me or someone else without a mask on , take a good look at the situation , is it actually needed for what the person is doing ? a little common sense goes a long way.
