A "change of heart" from a perpetual liar.
Late last week, Stacey Abrams and Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock both did rather dramatic flip flops on voter ID. It was a deeply calculated move, done as a show of support for the compromise election reform bill proposed by Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), which includes elements of voter ID.

You all know who Stacey Abrams is. She is the one who lost the Georgia Governor's election and cried fraud and racism. She also did a lot of work to get two very unlikely candidates elected to the US Senate from the state of Georgia. Her sister, who somehow got to be a federal judge, allowed people who were not living in Georgia to vote in those Senate elections.

Stacey Abrams position on voter ID had always been clear: She was against it!  She called it “Jim Crow in a suit and tie.” Like many progressive democrats, who had a hard time explaining why they would be against something that ensures the integrity of a vote, her position was clear. Recently, Senator Joe Manchin offered up a compromise bill to the democrats federal voting bill. His compromise calls for voter ID. Suddenly social justice warriors like Stacey Abrams and Raphael Warnock  have changed their tune. Did Manchin already have their endorsement before he went ahead with his compromise bill?   You know, the bill that looks very much like Georgia's current election rule changes.

Now people like Raphael Warnock claim:

“I have never been opposed to voter ID,” Warnock said. “And in fact, I don’t know anybody who is — who believes people shouldn’t have to prove that they are who they say they are. But what has happened over the years is people have played with common sense identification and put into place restrictive measures intended not to preserve the integrity of the outcome, but to select, certain group.”

What liars they are!

The Washington Post tried to explain it all. The Post, which is mostly left wing propaganda spun it this way:

The Post piece has taken a lot of heat for giving Abrams & Warnock cover, cleverly done as it was, managing somehow not to call them liars. It was all for nothing, of course, as Senate Republicans used the filibuster to shut it all down and that opens the door to the other thing the radical democrats want - ending the filibuster. (AKA Act II)

Stay tuned for that.

Still liars after all this time.

They all thought it was going to be easy with their razor thin majority in congress.

Who could vote for such people?

I dunno, the same kind of people who vote for Republican liars? You're not fighting from high ground with this kind of stuff Vic. Will the politics of cynicism still work? I do not know, but the risk of becoming bogged down in the mire of division is something you should consider if you love your country more than what the partisan spiel is from one week to another. So Stacey changed her mind on voter ID ... big fucking deal! Republicans have changed their minds on just about everything outside of guns, gods and gooberment in the last 5 years. To requote a quote you used, "the times they are a changin'"; everything is in a state of flux, there are no longer static positions. Hell I've gone from liberal to conservative to liberal so often that I've dizzily landed on libertarian monarchist. Who to believe, the liars shouting LIAR? No thanks, that's not a pill I want to swallow and neither should you.

For the great part of this nation's history we did not self correct, certainly not sufficiently. People of color were legally second class citizens in this country for 184 years before something was done about it. (1964 Civil Rights Act. ) The vestiges of those 184 years remain strong even now.

The nation needs to reflect and atone, as well as self correct.

I dont buy that we have "always" done it.

Just another example of a politician who puts party politics ahead of the American people.

But so long as the normal feelings of the American voter is that 'All those bastards in Washington should be fired, they're all scum.  Except for my guy that is,  he's great!" this problem will never change.

Put another way, given a chance to secure the universal voter ID program they have demanded for decades all 50 gop Senators, 100% of them, opposed the sensible compromise offered up by the Democrats...

So, every single Republican US Senator, 100% of them, all fifty of those low down lying bums, lied to America when they falsely claimed that their only real true intention was to, "Secure The Vote"...

What they're really intent upon is voter suppression!

Remember how the gop betrayed us and lied to us...
