No one tell my wife this, but...

No one tell my wife (since she hates it when I buy these) but I have in my wallet a lottery ticket that has 10 sets of numbers ($10) and if I win (which is very unlikely) the pay off here in CA will be a bit more then $60 million. Now of course because of our age if I won we would take the one time pay out and then there is taxes to be taken care of, so in the end it would only be about $20-$24 million. Now of course that is much more then we would be able to spend in our lifetime (unless...

Some Thoughts About Newsvine

As we know, newsvine.com will close shortly. I was most active there when it was a place where people came to get smarter. It was owned by MSNBC then. Over time, they gave me a room of my own, Chaplains Corner. It is still there. Over time, as the site deteriorated, I kept open the room. I would occasionally post articles about Chaplaincy. It was a reference resource to Chaplains, Clergy, caregivers, those who wanted to read about such; and those who have no access to a...

Now that NewsVine is about to finally get it's much deserved bullet to the head, I'm looking for a new place to rant/rave and generally act like the delusional heathen that I am.  And I here this place is friendly.  I'm encouraged by seeing old friends like Enoch, BadFish and Dowser.  So, hello everybody.  Glad to be here.  Anything I should know that is not painfully obvious?

Sagan famously said that  we are made of star stuff . He meant the carbon, nitrogen and oxygen atoms in our bodies, as well as atoms of all other heavy elements, were created inside stars. Yet Sagan’s expression of this idea, which quickly became a cornerstone of popular culture, might not take the concept far enough. According to astrophysicists at Northwestern University, our origins are much less...

Mrs. E. and I enjoyed a lovely afternoon lakeside today. Wednesday I underwent left eye cataract surgery, and an IOL (Inter Ocular Single Lens) transplant. I was cleared to resume driving safely Thursday. Mrs. E. and I rented for the weekend a lakeside flat. Today we dined at the shoreline like beach comers. The sky was clear and azure blue. The clouds pure white like marsh mellows. The temperatures summery. Mrs. E. had her standard salad and grilled chicken breast....

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the United States of America. Over two dozen cities and towns claim to be the birthplace of Memorial Day. While Waterloo N.Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966, it’s difficult to prove conclusively the origins of the day. Regardless of the exact date or location of its origins, one thing is clear – Memorial Day was...

By Randy Snyder   Last night I emailed an old friend. Now I haven't been in contact with him for about 4 or 5 years. It's not that I have been angry with him or that he has been angry with me and that we haven't been talking to each other. In fact in the 42 years I have known Dave I don't think there has ever really been an angry word pass between us.       What happened with not being in touch for a few years is completely normal for us. Of course when we were younger and...

OK, so I know someone who I will not identify by relationship because I just don't want to go there. I will say they are not a member of this site, nor one of my sons, so I just wanted to establish that.     This person is a male in their 40's who has not worked for a bit for the past 5 years when they received an inheritance from a grandparent, upon which they they quit their job and spent the inheritance smoking Medical Marijuana (they live in Arizona and it was...

A crematorium in Ohio caught fire while burning the remains of an "overly obese" body, according to the owner. Don Catchen said the corpse caused flames to engulf one of his units in the city of Cincinnati. The fat in the body burned at a higher temperature, prompting the blaze, said the city fire chief. The blog Confessions of a Funeral Director describes a blaze resulting from the cremation of a morbidly obese person as a "grease fire" . No other parts of the building...

"the armed forces were working  in collusion with  drug traffickers" synonyms: conspiracy ,  connivance ,  complicity ,  intrigue , plotting, secret understanding,...

What was the worst thing you did when you were a little kid? There are actually two really bad things that I remember doing when I was a little kid, and I can't decide which was the worst.  I recall that a playmate and I got hold of a box of matches, and what kids aren't fascinated by striking a match on the rough side of the box and seeing it flare up? Well, my friend and I went into a big field that was surrounded by the road on one side and the other three sides were lined by the...
