Did anyone watch Lower Decks today?
The first episode was released today and I just watched it a little while ago. It certainly wasn't normal Trek, but then again, it wasn't supposed to be. It's supposed to be a comedy, but the only parts that actually made me laugh were the opening scene and the title sequence.
The part where Mariner was trying to say bat'leth but could only say "bat um, bat uh, bat..." made me chuckle, but I have to say I actually thought the title sequence was the funniest part of the whole show, like the part where the ship hits some space ice and then veers away and goes dark. That's not saying much, though, is it?
The episode really wasn't as funny as I was hoping it would be, but I'll probably keep watching just as a Trek-related distraction. Maybe future episodes will be funnier. A half hour once a week isn't too much to manage. I thought the voice actors did a good job, at least. Especially Tawny Newsome as Mariner.

Has anyone else checked out Lower Decks yet? If so, what did you think?
I saw it last night. I didn't think much of it, sort of your typical adult cartoon just less funny than others. The art was also pretty basic.
Overall I'd give it a "Meh" rating and probably won't watch it again
I refuse to get CBS All Access or Peacock so I won't be watching it unless my gf's brother buys it on disk later.
I think Peacock is free, but I don't have access to it yet because I use a Roku, and they haven't settled on a deal with NBC yet.
I hear you about All Access, though. It took me a long time to break down and get it. That new Picard show is what nudged me over.
Peacock has tiers of service. There's a free one, and several that have a fee and either have more content, fewer ads, or both. I have the free one. I can only seem to stream on my desktop. I haven't been able to find the app for my smart TV or Bluray.
Hmm. I didn't know there was going to be more than one. Figures.
Maybe your smart TV and Blu-ray are having the same problem I am, whatever technology they use to stream might not have come to an arrangement with NBC yet. You'd think they would have all the service agreements lined out before Peacock went live, but I guess they didn't.
Yeah, the rollout seems to have been a bit messy. When I first set up an account, I couldn't stream on Chrome, even though that was the recommended browser. I had to use Edge.
Saw the show being advertised on the MUCH channel on Saturday and Sunday so ya might catch it there as well
It doesn't look very promising.
If I get CBS all access, I'll definitely check LD out. This isn't like ST: TAS, which carried on from TOS. It seems one has to take LD for what it is: a light hearted take on the Trek universe.
I watched episode 2 tonight. Gotta say, it was kinda nice to see a 'normal' Klingon drinking, singing, and eating gagh; along with a TNG era holodeck, a Feringi, and a mention of jamaharon. I felt a bit of nostalgia there.
The junior officer quarters aren't exactly canon, though, are they? They look closer to modern naval berthing than the quarters with roommates in the old shows.
I finally got to watch the first 2 episodes. The show isn't bad. But I didn't go into it with high expectations. The references and easter eggs to other Trek series is a nice touch. I particularly liked Mariner's Cha'DIch reference.
They are not. In the regular Trek series, even junior officers had their own quarters, even if they did bunk together. But the junior officers bunk in the corridor is a little off. That doesn't strike me as Starfleet. Even on a small ship like the Defiant, where space is very limited, the crew had individual quarters with bunk beds.
