Twitter has finally crossed the rubicon and decided that some of Trump's tweets are a lie too far.

So says a news story which reveals that Twitter has slapped warnings on at least two of Trump's tweets, letting readers know they need to look elsewhere for the truth.

It's about time.  The disclaimer needs to be attached to about 95% of Trumps tweets though.

Trump and his fluffers have said that his twitter page is his official correspondence with the American people.  And now he is being called out for officially lying to the people.  Sad times in the good old USA.

=========================================================

          https://crooksandliars.com/2020/05/twitter-finally-slaps-fact-checks-trumps

Twitter has finally crossed the rubicon and decided that some of Trump's tweets are a lie too far. After Trump tweeted about California governor Gavin Newsom's decision to mail ballots to registered voters in order to save lives, Twitter decided after all these years that enough was enough.

Trump tweeted that "mail boxes will be robbed, ballots will be forged and even illegally printed out & fraudulently signed." There is nothing in that sentence that is true. Mail-in ballots have bar codes and must be signed by the voter. In California, those signatures are compared to the voter registration, something which is not done with in-person voting.

Twitter noticed, and for the very first time added a link to   actual FACTS . What a concept.

While it's great that they flagged his tweet and linked to facts, there are many such tweets which should be flagged. Every one of his tweets, for the most part. And until the embedded tweets reflect that fact check, only a small fraction of people will see them.

It's a tiny step forward but until every one of his tweets is linked to a fact check, it's just a drop in the bucket.

Twitter confirms to @ NBCNews that this is the first time that they have appended “additional context” to Trump’s tweets. “These Tweets contain potentially misleading information about voting processes and have been labeled to provide additional context around mail-in ballots.” https:// twitter.com/realDonaldTrum p/status/1265255835124539392

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump

There is NO WAY (ZERO!) that Mail-In Ballots will be anything less than substantially fraudulent. Mail boxes will be robbed, ballots will be forged & even illegally printed out & fraudulently signed. The Governor of California is sending Ballots to millions of people, anyone.....

Trump is simply trying to draw attention to the very real and true long term history of the Democrats cheating and ballot stuffing and voting fraud that goes back decades.

They will do anything to win...that's why they don't want voter ID or any honest accountability. Getting the illegals in the US to vote their way is a top priority.

Could Trump be afraid that mailed ballots could be detrimental to his re-election?  The possibility that it will work for a California election must have him realize the process would not be to his benefit, and so he is trying to disparage it.

Could Trump be afraid that mailed ballots could be detrimental to his re-election?

Mail in ballots promote high voter turnouts which historically favor democrats. Voting by mail negates the effectiveness of gerrymandering and voter suppression, both of which are used by the GOP. In other words, if the nation votes by mail, a republican would likely never sit in the WH again, and they know it.

Who would determine the use of mail-in ballots for Nov. 3?  Would it be the individual States, the federal government, and can Trump veto its use?  Many may think that November is far enough away and the virus will no longer be a problem, but with the public's demand for ending the guidelines, IMO you ain't seen nothin' yet.

Individual states make the choice. That's why (I forget who it is), suing California for sending out mail in ballots ahead of the 2020 elections is not going anywhere. California is well within it's right to do what they are doing. It's an empty lawsuit that is only there for one reason.. To give trump an excuse if he loses in November. He did the same thing in 2016, "It's rigged!!!!!!!!". Now he is saying, "it's fraud!!!". Trump has a long history of setting up excuses so he has someone or something to blame if he loses. Did the same thing with his Trump U fraud suit. He said the judge was biased so when he lost, he could claim bias and not have to accept any blame.

Right now, mail in ballots is a wise way to go.

What I find weird about this fight is that MOST States already have vote from home options that are easily accessed.

Three or four States already use the mail in option exclusively and more than 30 of the States offer excuse free vote by mail options, (ask for a mail in ballet - get a mail in ballet).

Only a double hand full of States require that the voter give a reason for voting by mail or they only offer in person voting early options.

If the no excuse needed States want to bypass the request step and just send a mail in ballet to everyone why would the President or his party care?

What are they afraid of? The American voters?

Here is an interesting news tidbit tonight

During an event announcing limits on Medicare copays for insulin, Donald Trump went off script and bizarrely wondered whether he should be taking insulin, presumably as a preventive measure to ward off diabetes. Of course, it doesn't actually work that way.

"I don't use insulin," Trump said. "Should I be? Huh. I never thought about it."

Oh, I see. Does he think?

I can't help thinking Trump drops stupid comments into his official events so he can be guaranteed to get some attention, now that the cable outlets aren't dying to stream his stupid events live.

An individual who expresses their original thoughts using their original language (rather than simply delivering quotes from others) and who can produce cogent, relevant supporting facts and reasons for their claims is very likely to be a critical thinker.   One who clearly considers both sides of a question (e.g. considers things regardless of party, ideology, religion, etc.) is likely to be objective and an independent thinker.

President Trump on Tuesday night   accused Twitter of "interfering"   in the 2020 presidential election after the company   attached a fact check   to two of his tweets that made false claims about mail-in ballots.

Trump declared that mail-in ballots are fraudulent, which led Twitter to include links in the tweets redirecting users to a page with facts on the issue. This was the first time Twitter has labeled Trump's tweets as being misleading, and

he was  quick to respond,  claiming that the company is "completely stifling FREE SPEECH, and I, as President, will not allow it to happen!"

Twitter did not delete any of his tweets, despite calls to do so by   people directly affected by his messages,   nor did the company ban his account. In a statement, a Twitter spokesperson said his tweets "contain potentially misleading information about the voting process and have been labeled to provide additional context." Trump dismissed Twitter's fact checking, saying the research was conducted by "Fake News CNN and the Amazon Washington Post."

Twitter is like a phone service provider that listens to your conversations and then disconnects the line when they don’t like what you are saying.

The difference is that a phone conversation between 2 people isn't usually posted on social media where the whole world can hear it (unless someone is recording it)***. Twitter is a social media platform with billions of users. Anything you post on Twitter can go viral around the world 30 times before I can get this comment typed.

***If I'm talking to my son or daughter on the phone the likelihood of that conversation ending up on social media are slim to none. If my son or daughter and I are arguing via Twitter there's a good chance other people will become privy to it and Twitter has the right to shut it down if it gets too graphic or violent. Twitter is a private company. It is not owned by the government

Several products like that have warnings on them like "do not ingest" or "not for human consumption." They wouldn't have to things like that if it hadn't already been tried. This kind of thing is not new.

You wouldn't think anyone would have to make these disclaimers, but we have strict liability lawsuits and negligence lawsuits, and there will always be idiots. We can't tiptoe around all of them. Some folks are beyond saving.

As the task force investigated, they found five ballot requests that had been altered from "Democrat" to Republican."

The complaint against Cooper says he changed an underline that several voters had placed under "Democrat" to a circle around "Republican."

On three other requests, the party was not changed, but the request for an absentee ballot had been altered.

Sounds like he was trying to help Trump. Lets bar all Republicans from mail voting.

    • Seventeen states require voters to provide an excuse for voting by absentee ballot.
    • Twenty-eight states and the District of Columbia offer no-excuse absentee voting.
  • Five states have elections that are held by mail-in ballot.

Sorry, yes Washington, WA.

So it seems that the majority of states allow mail-in voting, which I've done while in the military, as an Ex-Pat and while living in the US.

In Florida, all you do is request one and it's sent to you. It includes presidential elections.

Same here in SoCal. I have voted by mail for several years. And I vote in every election local, state and national.

There is a list of ''no excuse'' mail-in ballots and the states that mail ballots to all registered voters in their state.

VOPP: Table 1: States with No-Excuse Absentee Voting

5/1/2020

This table is part of NCSL’s   Voting Outside the Polling Place report .

“Absentee” first came about during the Civil War as a way for soldiers to cast a ballot in their home states. The idea of allowing military voters to cast a ballot “in absentia” is still one of the driving factors for states allowing absentee ballots. All states, by federal law, are required to send absentee ballots to military and overseas voters for federal elections.

For domestic voters wishing to vote absentee or by mail, 16 states require voters to provide an “excuse” for why they will not be able to vote on Election Day. Some of these states do provide early in-person voting.

The other 34 states and Washington, D.C., do not require an excuse from those who wish to vote absentee or by mail. Five states conduct elections entirely by mail (Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah and Washington), which means voters do not need to request a ballot, and instead automatically receive one. The other 29 states and D.C. offer “no-excuse” absentee voting, which means any voter can request a mail ballot without providing an excuse.

It's a life long tradition of caring what the hell goes on and exercising our right in public.

The only 'public' part of voting is standing in line to do so. The GOP are all for 'forcing' people to 'exercise' that part of the ritual for hours and in as large a number as possible.

sure, but the governor can not change state election law just by giving a simple order.

What I find as the "phenomenal embarrassment" is the reaction to EVERYTHING relating to the POTUS.

Some of the most idiotic accusations and assumptions come from these mouth breathers and when they are challenged to provide proof, the response is everything but proof.  Usually an article from some blogger at CNN or MSNBC or over sized color coded text (like they are trying to shout over you).

And what makes it really Hillaryious is that they then blame the POTUS for their irrational reaction to whatever offended them.

Trump is always touting powers/authority that he does not have, even as President. Which indicates he already sees himself as the Dictator of America. And I repeat what I have already said a couple of times here on NT, that Trump will try to negate the election if he loses, saying it is rigged, which he is already saying and planting the seeds for, and trying to say to election is a fraud, which he is already saying and trying to plant the seeds for should he lose the election.

I have no doubt that he will also try to claim the election is invalid due to the push for a vote by mail system because of the Covid-19 that is still active and new infections and deaths are happening everyday, and growing with the reopenings across the country.

However, Trump forgets, or chooses to ignore the fact that we have a Constitution and laws that he can't ignore no matter who he wants to, nor can his Red Neck militias and White Supremacists.

All one needs do is compare Trump's scheduled "Executive time' with his Twitter account, both are public record. Trump spends much of the morning watching Fox and tweeting. There are hundreds of examples of Trump tweeting out Fox missives moments after they are uttered. Trump strolls into the oval around 11ish most of the time.
