How It's Made: Hydrogen Fuel Cells
Hydrogen fuel cells run vehicles and other machines by directly converting the chemical energy in hydrogen gas into electrical power.
The principles of the hydrogen fuel cell were first discovered in the early 19th century. During the first quarter of the 20th century there were several attempts to develop various types of fuel cells (including hydrogen fuel cells) for commercial applications, primarily in transportation. Today the most common commercially available fuel cells are zinc-air hearing aid batteries.
The YouTube video provides a general overview of how a proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell is assembled. This isn't the best quality video but it does show all the needed components as the fuel cell is assembled.

Producing hydrogen gas using electricity produced with alternative sources means fuel cells can be clean while providing the same mobility as fossil fuels.
