The White House hit CNN and MSNBC for cutting away from Monday evening's coronavirus briefing from  President Trump  and his administration.

White House spokesman  Judd Deere  called it “pretty disgraceful” that the networks, which have been regularly criticized by the president, did not show the entire White House briefing on the pandemic sweeping the country.

Fox News also cut away from the Monday briefing but only just before it ended.

A CNN spokesperson responded to Deere’s tweet in a statement: “If the White House wants to ask for time on the network, they should make an official request. Otherwise we will make our own editorial decisions.”

An MSNBC network spokesperson said the network aired the briefing for more than an hour before cutting away "because the information no longer appeared to be valuable to the important ongoing discussion around public health."

Several people have criticized the administration’s daily coronavirus briefings for allegedly spreading misinformation and urged news networks not to show them live.

Last week, Trump  got into a spat  with NBC News reporter Peter Alexander when he asked what the president's  message is  to Americans who are “scared” about the coronavirus.

“I say that you’re a terrible reporter,” Trump replied. “That’s what I say. I think it’s a very nasty question, and I think it’s a very bad signal that you’re putting out to the American people.”

In Monday’s briefing,  Trump indicated  that he wants to work with local economies to “cautiously resume” activities after the pandemic has shut down industries.

COVID-19 has infected more than 43,000 people in the U.S., leading to at least 552 deaths, according to data from  Johns Hopkins University .

Maybe that's why:

Fo x News
recently won the  most watched cable network  for the  seventeenth year in a row .

https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/why-is-fox-news-the-most-watched-cable-network.html/

“Hannity”  was the most-watched cable news program in 2018, averaging 3.3 million viewers. Fox News Channel finished 2018 as the most-watched basic cable network for the third consecutive year among both primetime and total day viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research .

https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/fox-news-finishes-2018-as-most-watched-cable-network-hannity-tops-cable-news

"No other basic cable network surpassed the two-million average viewership plateau, as ESPN averaged 1.8 million primetime viewers to finish second. MSNBC, HGTV and USA rounded out the top five, while CNN averaged only 990,000 primetime viewers to finish eleventh overall."

Hannity is an idiotic entertainer. It doesn't say much for all those people if they prefer lies and bullshit to reality.. But some people revel in willful ignorance and conspiracy theories. Plus they get to avoid facts this way and are able to feed their hatred.

Ender, I commend you for stepping into the breach, however, just remember it was Kat who made the claim and I have to now believe it was without evidence. You on the other hand, came along and decided to google "PolitiFact."  The funny thing is that PolitiFact has graded certain Hannity statements without explaining the reason for the grades.

For example:

The Hannity statement

During the (Benghazi) attack, a stand-down order was given, and our troops were told to change their clothes four times."

is graded "mostly false"

That is odd. Here is what the military told us during the Benghazi hearings:

A new congressional report on the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attack on a U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that left four Americans dead found that the   Marines   tasked with responding to the attack had to change in and out of uniform four times, slowing their arrival at the scene of the attack.

The 800-page report, released Tuesday by the House Select Committee on Benghazi, is the last in a series of Republican-authored probes into the attack and the response of administration officials. It provides nearly two dozen more details about the chain of events taken from the testimony of key leaders, detailing what are described as communication and intelligence failures and leadership gaps.

Among these were delays imposed on the 50-man Marine Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team, or FAST, which launched from Rota, Spain, more than 2,000 miles away from Benghazi. The team was loaded onto   C-130 aircraft , but held on the ground for three hours before being allowed to take off.

According to the report,   Navy   Vice Adm. Kurt Tidd, then-director of operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, testified that the State Department had dithered about how to send forces into Libya without creating a larger international incident.

"State was very, very concerned about what the footprint would look like in Tripoli," Tidd said in testimony cited in the report. "They didn't want it to look like we were invading. That was the gist or that was the genesis of the discussion that occurred over whether or not when the FAST arrives at the airport in Tripoli -- because they wanted to reinforce security at the embassy -- but there was concern that it not have this image of a big, invading force."

The team was going to be transported in vehicles to the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli, Tidd said.

"And there was just concern of parading a bunch of trucks or buses full of Marines in uniform, what kind of image that would present, recognizing it was going to be daylight when they arrived," he said.

The Marine commander of the FAST platoon, unnamed in the report, testified that the Marines' orders changed constantly as they waited to depart.

"We were told multiple times to change what we were wearing, to change from cammies into civilian attire, civilian attire into cammies, cammies into civilian attire," he said. "There was also some talk of whether or not we could carry our personal weapons. I was basically holding hard and fast to the point where we were carrying our personal weapons. Like, we've got a very violent thing going on the ground where we're going, so we're going to be carrying something that can protect ourselves."

https://www.military.com/daily-news/2016/06/28/benghazi-probe-finds-marines-response-slowed-uniform-changes.html

So is it because the military said we were told "multiple times" as opposed to Hannity declaring in was "four times" that makes it "mostly false???"

I beg to differ - I would say the grade should be MOSTLY TRUE!

My point of the link was to show that Hannity is nothing more than a talking head.

If I said Maddow never lied, would you believe it? I would hope not because it would not be true.

To defend a politically biased talking head and to content that they are always truthful is in itself a lie.

Well, that’s disgusting. It’s not shocking, but it’s still horrible. The liberal media isn’t concerned about the economy or the death toll from this Wuhan coronavirus epidemic. They want to weaponize this news to tank the markets to increase the chances that Trump gets defeated in November. Their allies on the Hill have done well helping out on the front, blocking a key Wuhan virus relief bill that sent the Dow Jones into a tailspin on Monday. It’s ticked up with the news that this package could pass, but Sen. Bernie Sanders and four GOP senators, including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), have warned they would block it. Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she would do her best to derail it. It’s ridiculous.

But even with all of this, the response from the Trump White House  has been favorable , with 60 percent of Independents and over a quarter of Democrats giving this administration props for their guidelines in fighting the disease and containing the spread. And yes, this was MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell’s biggest fear—not the butcher’s bill from the Wuhan virus; the spike in Trump’s approval ratings. Newsbusters  has more :

During her 12:00 p.m. ET hour show on Wednesday, MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell revealed her greatest fear amid the coronavirus pandemic – Donald Trump’s approval ratings going up. She fretted over likely Democratic nominee Joe Biden “having difficulty” getting his message out during the crisis and support for the President “skyrocketing.”

Turning to former Obama administration official Jim Messina, Mitchell anxiously noted: “There is politics involved. We’ve heard very little from, for instance, the more likely, most likely nominee of the Democratic Party, Joe Biden. He’s having difficulty getting – projecting through this crisis as the campaign goes totally on hold.”

[…]

We’re also seeing some polls indicating the President’s approval ratings among Democrats and independents skyrocketing to their highest levels yet. Some 60% approval ratings for the way he’s handling this crisis as he continues to hold these briefings. The briefings are working for the President.

In frustration, she added: “No matter what he says, people seem to be seeing him as a leader, at least more people do.”

Yeah, well, Joe Biden sucks and he doesn’t know where he is or what he’s saying half the time. And more people see him as such because Trump is doing a lot to get medical supplies flowing, tests conducted, and treatments distributed as we work on a vaccine. Also, they see the gross overreach from Democrats and their liberal media allies and frankly aren’t listening to your doomsday crap anymore. Actually, a good chunk of the country tuned you guys out long ago.

Actually they are all mostly long and boring. I don't reme, ber if that was part of it. But I watched the one we're discussing. The one that I heard was "suddenly cancelled" by CNN and MSNBC.

But I was watching it on Fox. At one point Trump cracked a corney joke-- he asked one of the participants if they had been exposed to the Virus (or maybe if they had been tested, I forget). Then he laughed and moved quickly away from that person, laughing all the while at how funny he was, It was embaressing to him-- also the fact that he was mocking social distancing.

At that point-- much to my surprise--Fox cut away. (Yes Fox-- I know it was Fox because that's what I was watching).

As soon as they cut away, they showed some other news-- that I had seen on Fox much earlier-- strange to re-broadcast so soon after original program.

I thought it strange-- especially since this was only a short way into the breieing.

On a whim I switched to MSNBC-- and they were still continuing to show the briefing!

Yes-- Fox cut away sooner than MSNBC! MSNBC showed more of it than Fox..understandably, as trump was really embaressing himself.

Then I switched back to stock market news (Bloomberg). later back to MSNBC who later also broke away-- but only after showing more than Fox. (And they had shown much of it...it was getting to be redundant when MSNBC cut away.

I spent a lot of time watchig the briefing (which wasn't very breif---- it was mostly trumpand his cohorts praising Trump...not much new stuff). But to anyone who watched it on Fox then MSNBC when Fox cut away, two things were obvious:

1. Fox cut away to avoid showing Trump acting weird.

2. MSNBC finally broke away...much later... because it was really getting redundant.

And not surprisingly, The White House spins the story... to make it look like only MSNBC?CNN cut it short!

If you hate Trump they are. There are a lot of desperate Americans who watch whenever they can.

I also watched on Fox, I do remember the incident you are talking about, I'm not sure it was Monday, but Dr Birx said she had a slight fever and wanted to be checked. He sort of pulled himself away (in a comical way) making light of it to get a laugh from viewers at home I suspect. It didn't mock anyone, but as I watched it I suspected the media or somebody on the left would make something of it. I always watch for that.

At that point-- much to my surprise--Fox cut away. (Yes Fox-- I know it was Fox because that's what I was watching).

Yes even Fox cut away. It was a very long briefing - so long that the President let the other officials on the stage with him leave to attend to their duties. As he pointed out it was his intent to let reporters ask as many questions as possible. People want to know a lot about this. Do you fault him for that?

Why is Trump conducting briefings that last an hour and a half every day?

A good part of the time is him improvising, bs ing , praising himself, spouting irrelevancies, repeating himself.   He does sometimes give pertinent information.

Trump is a television performer. This format gives him a relatively captive audience , now that he can't hold rallies this is the best available substitute.

I dont blame the networks at all for cutting away after a while.

BTW I don't believe Fox was covering for the President nor do I think anything he did was embarrassing. I don't know about you but I learned a few things from that briefing:

1) As of next Monday the medical task force will give the President an assessment on how much longer the current restrictions should remain in effect.

2) There are self testing kits being developed

3) The government is distributing large quantities of Hydroxycloroquine to New York (effective the following day -Tuesday)

the point.

Is it not dangerous to have a single outlet have unfettered access, editorial control, and most frightening, abetting the forming of policy decisions when dealing with an administration? If the resident were to allow competing outlets 'stage' (it was staged) the next 'town hall' (which it most certainly was not), then it would eliminate the appearance of impropriety. Not very likely.

The media, warts and all, should never be denied access to our government for any reason, much less personal animus. It is up to us as citizens to filter the mountain of information, particularly in this new age. To so narrowly define who controls the narrative is antithetical to the tenets of our system of governance. Not at all healthy.

Thanks for indulging my opinion, Jim...hope all is well in NC.

As far as the topic, I tried to watch daily, for a week; If the delays to the announced start of the pressers was irritating our household, I can imagine what it was doing to the networks who were airng an empty room.

Was it last night or the night before that they rolled out AG Barr and Dr Birx who stood there for a good ten minutes swaying ?

We need facts from one person, doesn't really matter who. We don't need the POTUS to rattle of statistics followed by the same statistics from the FEMA Director.

These things are poorly staged IMHO and there to keep one person in the political limelight.

If an outlet or two deem these pressers to be inconsequential they can choose to edit and put on the nightly news like all the rest of the news.

No wonder right wingers are so desperately misinformed.

-

Trump's "briefings" are his substitute for his ridiculous rallies , which he can no longer hold. He regularly rambles on for 45 minutes or an hour at these "briefings", often saying things that are irrelevant except in his imagination. The tv networks were sending him a message by cutting him off.

so the broken clock happens to be true twice a day

The Washington Post and New York Times would be perfect examples. They lied about a Russia connection for 3 years and have virtually twisted every story about Trump in a negative way. Sometimes they publish truth as well. When they do it should be accepted.

The only difference between the Times and the Pundit is the Times has skilled writers, a huge staff and many topics. The Pundit is nothing more than a blowhorn who rarely gets it right.

so saying the clock has some issues with keeping time is therefore irrelevant.

There is a time and place for everything

to what many on the left does.

Just making an analogy...have neither a left nor right dogleg raised in this pissing match. It is just sad that in relieving ourselves, the idea that a free and unfettered press, which is essential, has become the fire hydrant.

Unfettered? like the Obama administration denying fox news access? Not a reporter for bad behavior but banning a station?   I haven't seen trump do this, And are the "left" MSM free to post their bird cage screeds without government control?  No where in the 1st does it say access, Just the ability to print.

Fox is an 'entertainment' channel that tells many what they WANT to hear, which is VERY OFTEN FAR FROM THE TRUTH

Amajor factor in ignorance ruling.

Just the ability to print

Thank goodness.

Again, it is up to you and I to make sense of the avalanche of information out there. Obama was wrong, but Trump should not use that as an excuse, lest he be considered in the same vein. How hard is that to understand?

This tit-for-tat, but they did it first, but what about them grade-school mentality is more damaging in the long term than this virus.

Are you having trouble.....Again.

Not a reporter for bad behavior but banning a station?

You do know that every other reporter with WH credentials from CNN were still permitted, right?  FFS quit believing the fake news.

And CNN and MSNBC is purely fiction and only idiots believe their broadcasts.  But the same morons got their news from the Daily show, And thought Colbert was real.

isn’t it terrible that the president freely quotes from sources that we can’t seed from here and has people from organizations on the SPLC hate list in the highest parts of his administration?  I think it’s awesome 😎

LMAO, CNN doing anything "editorial" is laughable.
