The Great Menace
"China is engaged in a whole-of-state effort to become the world's only superpower by any means necessary," Wray said. He described a program called "Operation Fox Hunt," launched by President Xi Jinping, aimed at getting Chinese nationals who are seen as threats to the Chinese government, but who are currently living abroad, back to their home country.

We the People

Seven months ago the world was rocked by a deadly new virus. There has been much debate over it's origins, whether it sprang from a wet market or from a lab in Wuhan China. We still don't have a definitive answer. The pandemic now known as the Coronavirus. Over 900,000 have died world-wide, many more have been infected, economies have collapsed and lives have been ruined.

As of September 11, 2020, the outbreak of the  coronavirus disease (COVID-19)  had spread to six continents, and almost 914 thousand people had died after contracting the respiratory virus.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1093256/novel-coronavirus-2019ncov-deaths-worldwide-by-country/

In the beginning China lied about the disease, even outrageously blaming it on the US military. Long the beneficiary of being allowed into the WTO and enjoying a one-sided trade agreement, China's economy and technological & military power has grown exponentially. Donald Trump is no longer the lone voice in the wilderness when it comes to China. Others now see the threat:

"On Thursday, Florida's The Berman Law Group filed a class-action lawsuit  against the People's Republic of China (PRC), alleging that the government's failure to report the disease and subsequently move to quickly contain it created a "giant Petri dish."

"The PRC and the other defendants knew that COVID-19 was dangerous and capable of causing a pandemic, yet slowly acted, proverbially put their head in the sand, and/or covered it up for their own economic self-interest," the complaint states. "The defendants' conduct has caused and will continue to cause personal injuries and deaths, as well as other damages."
"Juliya Arbisman, an international disputes expert and partner at the New York-based Diamond McCarthy law firm, indicated that there are broad possibilities under international law, especially trade law, for State-to-State and individual investor claims against countries.

"These might boil down to the ability of preexisting legal mechanisms to deal with these sorts of modern questions," she said. "There is also a pretty clear case for countries insisting on China to honor its obligations under CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) to stop people from trading in and eating endangered species, which is likely how Covid-19 infected humans in the first place."

It is believed coronavirus was born out of a seafood wholesale market in the eastern Chinese city of Wuhan, whereby poorly regulated, live-animal markets mixed in with illicit wildlife trade, creating the environment for viruses to morph from animal hosts into the human populous.

U.S. National Security advisor Robert O'Brien, referring to the doctors who were censored, has claimed that the Beijing concealment in the early phase "cost the world community two months" and aggravated the international fallout. Moreover, the leading Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. Michael McCaul, has termed it "one of the worst cover-ups in human history."

"Chinese behavior is a threat to global security and constitutes a violation of Chapter VII of the UN Charter, which authorizes the U.N. Security Council to take action to 'maintain or restore international peace and security,'" Stradner continued. "States, and the U.S. in particular, can react to the coronavirus outbreak by invoking the principle of self-defense."

https://www.foxnews.com/world/china-legally-accountable-coronavirus

China now is the world's second largest economy with a navy & army now larger than that of the US. Whether we like it or not there are now two superpowers. Superpowers with different commitments. We are the superpower with all kinds of commitments to other nation's around the world. China only has a commitment to it's determination to become the world's dominant power. It regularly threatens it's neighbors and apparently fears nothing from the west. For those who seem to think like Arbisman, O'Brien and Stradner, I have some really bad news. China not could care less, what's worse, I firmly believe they see it the other way around!

China, without any words, seems to be saying What are you going to do about it?

Once we realize that is their true position, we can also understand their obvious threat:

If the international community ever gets up the nerve to do something about it - who knows maybe some rogue Chinese General might just release another lethal pathogen!

I can't see how they can be stopped.

All we can do is to vote to stop them. I don't have to say much more.

Voting isn't going to stop China. [ DELETED ]

They are currently working on turning their three times larger populace into consumers which had been America's true strength for the last half century.

We've been the envy of the business world for decades because we consume more than anyone else. China has been opening up their markets and making many of their citizens ridiculously wealthy which has been trickling down into the middle class in China.

" China's giant middle class is still growing and companies from Walmart to start-ups are trying to cash in. McKinsey analysis indicates the Chinese middle class could reach 550 million in three years — more than one-and-a-half times the entire U.S. population today"

So voting to cut them off from US consumers like some on the right want to do will do nothing to lessen their power. Encouraging them towards further capitalism, and hopefully one day Democracy, and opening up their consumers to American intellectual products regardless of where they are made will be beneficial for America. Americans need to embrace the tech and green energy jobs of the future instead of pining away for the manufacturing jobs of the past.

So what you are saying is that the fact that they have nuclear weapons and that we helped them enter into the WTO has doomed us all?

Funny, that China doesn't seem to believe in that. No progressives in China?

Apparently not.

No, it doesn't.

Did you read your own article:

China accounts for 30 per cent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, of which a large share comes from coal power.

Coal power still makes up the largest share of the country’s energy supply by far

Do let us know when China gets there.

I can't see how they can be stopped.

China's main ambition is to dominate through trade and financial dominance - consider their long range Belt and Road program.

Perhaps if several countries in the world would develop a trade partnership that worked for the benefit of the members but excluded China they might be able to control say - 40% or so of the the world trade giving the members tremendous leverage over China when bargaining  - compared to trying to work out individual trade arrangements with China.

Any leader who would promote  such a partnership trade agreement would surely be worthy of praise.

Or we could just continue to go it alone and pound dirt as China politely cleans our clock.

That is a reasonable idea. How many countries have become dependent on China?

Why did Trump try to collude with China then?   He asked China to help him get re-elected according to Bolton. Then when the virus hit he was praising how Xi was handling it. Until it started to spread across the U.S.  Then Trump had to reverse field and say China was the bad guy. Trump does whatever is expedient at the moment.  [DELETED]

To the contrary, Trump cost them that lucrative trade deal they had for decades.

China may have sunk his re-election.

The Coronavirus, you know!

Why does the left blame the pandemic on Trump instead of the Chinese government who tried to cover it up and delayed in informing other government..

Dr Fauci said there was no lie:

Dr. Anthony Fauci defended President Donald Trump from claims Wednesday that he lied about the coronavirus, telling Fox News: “I don’t recall anything that was any gross distortion in things that I spoke to him about.”

I don't care what Dr. Fauchi says... and may I remind you, that didn't either when it suited your agenda. You did post articles calling him a traitor basically. The fact is Trump knew and understood long before it took over the NE how the virus was spread and never played down the danger of it.

Suddenly you don't care what Fauci says ????

and may I remind you, that didn't either when it suited your agenda.

Let me correct you - I criticized Fauci for allowing himself to be used by the left wing media.

The fact is Trump knew and understood long before it took over the NE how the virus was spread and never played down the danger of it.

At the time that Trump is speaking with Woodward (FEBRUARY) even the scientists weren't sure of anything. Fauci thought it wouldn't effect us much and if you recall Nancy Pelosi was embracing Asians in SF's Chinatown because she thought Trump's travel ban was anti-Asian!

pelosi-chinatown.jpg

In the meantime the President is telling Woodward what his gut instincts were at a crucial moment, when there was mass confusion and lies coming from China and the WHO.

This is what MSM has been falsely pushing. The facts are that Trump followed the advice of the medical experts (Fauci, Birx, CDC, NIH, etc), and Dr. Fauci has confirmed it.
