Mom Goes Viral After Keeping Trump Presidency Hidden From Her Son for Past Four Years
"It's still 2008 in my home. That is, my 6-year-old son assumes Obama is president, he knows Biden is president-elect, but he has no idea Trump exists," the mom apparently wrote in a Facebook post.

Mom Goes Viral After Keeping Trump Presidency Hidden From Her Son for Past Four Years

One mother's apparent social media post has some adults questioning her parenting skills, because she admitted to lying to her child about who has been president for the past four years.

That's right: As far as this woman's child knows, President Donald Trump isn't in the White House right now, and he never took office.

In a lengthy message originally posted in a Binders Group on Facebook, a woman claimed that she's led her 6-year-old son to believe that President Barack Obama is still president despite the fact that No. 44 hasn't been in office for nearly an entire presidential term. The message surfaced on Twitter on Saturday and caught the attention of liberals, conservatives and just plain concerned parents, many of whom feel that the mom was wrong for going through such length to keep the existence of Trump's presidency from her child.

"It's still 2008 in my home. That is, my 6-year-old son assumes Obama is president, he knows Biden is president-elect, but he has no idea Trump exists—which is a deliberate parenting choice I made that spun aa little out of control over the past four years," the woman's post reads. "In 2016, I deliberately shifted the way my family consumes information. I swapped all of our print subscriptions for digital, keeping headlines far from the eyes of my curious son. During our morning commute, I changed the channel from NPR to indie music. We stopped watching TV news entirely."

She then explains in the post: "I thought the election was a mistake that would soon be corrected, and I'd never have to tell my child about Trump until much later—but that didn't happen."

The unidentified mother then goes on to admit that her "lie of omission" spiraled to a point where she couldn't figure out a way to clean it up with the truth. Despite keeping her child in the dark, she noted that "it's been nice" living in a household where "all of the noise and tweets and scandals don't exist."

"It feels like I have some control in a chaotic world," the post reads.

Some people on Twitter—who, of course are going to weigh in on how a complete stranger is parenting their child—feel that the mom's efforts have been destructive to her son's well being.

"She just completely destroyed her son's ability to trust his parents about anything, starting as soon as he has a single unsupervised conversation with anyone outside the house. I hope she doesn't keep him locked away out of a sense of self-pity," one Twitter user wrote.

I love the people reacting this angrily but in the form of "Stop snitching!" and not "This person should not be a parent."

"What a long and drawn out way to say 'Trump's presidency and the fact that he was able to get elected into the office in the first place has had zero effect on my life and I can simply pretend it's not real,'" tweeted another.

"The weirdest part for me is that she clearly just put herself in denial for four years and is trying to claim that she needed to do it to hide the news from.... a two-year-old," one person wrote on Twitter.

Wow yikes. Like I kind of get the initial impulse because he was small at the time. (If he's six now was he two?) but to continue it is.... icky.
Though living in a trumpless world sounds lovely

Another wrote: "I didn't think I'd have to tell my child about Trump until much later'????? Lol he was 2 you literally could choose to never talk about it with him, without tuning *yourself* out to the news. He don't care he just wants you to put some Peppa Pig on."

There was at least one person who wished they could have lived the past four years in a Trump-less bubble, too, though.

"I have no idea what a 'Binders group' is but I sure wish I could be this mom," someone tweeted in response. "I have followed the news these past 4 years like my life depended on every move that Trump and his administration made. It has been truly exhausting."

"She just completely destroyed her son's ability to trust his parents about anything"

Hilarious. No doubt this parent convinced their child that Santa Claus exists, but thinks not telling their 6 year old the Presidents name is going to scar them for life so they don't trust their parents.

The fact is, much of what's come out of the Presidents mouth isn't something any 6 year old should be exposed to. I haven't let my 11 year old daughter hear Trump talking about grabbing women by the pussy, am I somehow a bad parent for censoring such filth?

This kid will have plenty of time later to learn all about how vile this President has been, it will be well documented by historians and there will likely be college classes taken just to examine his thousands of lies, impeachment and refusal to concede a clearly legitimate election simply because he lost "bigly". And no doubt this kid will grow up hearing all the whining and complaining coming from poorly educated dumb shit Trump supporters who will likely continue to falsely claim the election was somehow "stolen" from them.

You have an 11 year old who pays attention to the news? I wouldn't want my daughters at that age to hear that either but this kid is going to be going to school soon. For mommy dearest to deny him TRUE knowledge of who the PotUS is is just plain silly. Kid probably, at this point in his life, couldn't give two shits about anything but video games and not national news. She doesn't have to tell him any details but, PotUS is PotUS.  I'm sure, at the ripe old age of five, he is a news junkie........anyway /s

My six year old shouted the other day "Stupid Donald Trump!" and when I went to check on what her issue was she was playing a 'Roblox' game similar to tag but instead of being chased by the bat wielding 'Piggy' it was a Donald Trump skin on the antagonist. All I could do was agree with her and say "Yes, stupid Donald Trump". Even though neither my 11 year old or 6 year old watch news, they still know who Trump is as it's seeped into just about every corner of the virtual world, so I'd have to ban them from the internet and TV to keep them away from him. I'm actually impressed that the parent above was able to achieve such a feat.

What kind of game has the PotUS as a villain and WTH would you allow it at that age. And I posit that yelling at him was possibly due to the fact she may have been losing the game. You know better than I.

Well first, Donald Trump is a piece of shit villain who has suggested imposing marshal law simply because he lost an election. Second, Roblox is a free game platform where users make their own games and host them so with freedom of expression you can have anyone be the villain.

Yes, she yelled at him because he caught her in the game of tag just like Trump caught his base of losers and fooled them into voting for the most inept moronic President in US history.

I've never seen a 3 or 4 or 5 year old who cares who the president is. If this actually happened its more pathetic than meaningful in any way.

I've never seen a 3 or 4 or 5 year old who cares who the president is.

I think when one can be proud of a President, one who is a role model for others, then it might be something they would be interested in. When we had President Obama he was a role model for many young black Americans whose parents never thought they would see the day when we would have a black President and no doubt many showed their kids and told them they too could one day become President.

My boss recently showed me a video of his 6 year old granddaughter reciting the list of Presidents in order, something I know I wouldn't even be able to do. She will no doubt someday be a force to be reckoned with. He said his daughter had bought her plastic placemats with all the Presidents faces and names on them and she started pointing them out and reciting their names before each meal. My daughters have placemats with math and the alphabet on them but they don't even give them a second look as it feels like homework to them.
