Spokes on a Wheel
"I’ll Tase you! I’ll Tase you! Taser! Taser! Taser!" the officer is heard shouting on her bodycam footage released at a news conference.

The leftist media is at it again. A story was hoisted onto the front page well before we knew the facts or why such a story deserved such coverage. It wasn't about the 97 police officers who gave their lives protecting us in the first 4 months of 2021, nor was it about rising crime rates in cities that have demonized and defunded our police. As usual, it was about a black man who was killed while resisting arrest. The full story is that a female veteran police officer mistook her gun for her taser gun and accidently shot the man who was trying to drive away. Yesterday right here on NT we heard someone ask: " Would you agree that any shot at someone trying to drive away is a shot to kill?"   Hours later we find that it was an accidental shooting.

After the leftwing media put the story on the front page, the leftist local government took over. The city council in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center immediately voted to put the Mayor in charge of the Police Department. The Brooklyn Center Mayor, Mike Elliott then held what is called a "presser" which in this case evidently meant questions were taken from some activists involved in riots rather than reporters. City Manager Curt Boganey, who until Monday evening had control over police personnel, said the officer who shot Wright will get “due process.” Boganey was then fired!
A woman who attended the presser said the officer must be “fired immediately” because “Daunte Wright did not get due process in that situation.”  That's a snapshot of the individuals who run Brooklyn Center. I remember the days when I used to think the likes of a Marion Barry being an elected official was a rarity that would never be repeated, but here we are in the era of the left.

According to the Star Tribune, the city’s leaders also appeared prepared to fire Police Chief Gannon, who said at the press conference that he had authorized the use of tear gas and rubber bullets during protests the night before, after a police officer was injured.

As expected, on came the organized rioters. Last night they struck again in Brooklyn Center, as police officers were shelled with objects thrown from the crowd. A few officers suffered minor injuries during the rioting. Looters also broke into several businesses at a strip mall near the police station, including a Dollar Tree store. Imagine breaking in to a Dollar Tree store? There are those who love to loot during these events and they had a great time last night.

bafa13cf18c7b7e07021b64f233fb602

"Amelia Huffman, the Minneapolis Police Department’s deputy chief for professional standards, said 13 people were also arrested in Minneapolis amid the demonstrations -- four for burglaries, two were suspects in shots-fired incidents, six were for curfew violations, and one was on an outstanding warrant."

https://www.foxnews.com/us/live-updates-minnesota-police-and-protesters-clash-following-daunte-wright-fatal-shooting

Last but not least the person who is supposed to be managing the border crisis, but has been MIA for about a month, took to twitter: "Wright's family needs "justice and healing"

That's what Kamala Harris is doing in case anyone is interested.

Rashida Tlaib went a bit further and declared on Twitter that the death of Daunte Wright “wasn’t an accident” and was  “inherently and intentionally racist.”

With the riots and looting that is occurring in Minnesota, one would hope that government officials would caution against assuming facts and encouraging the public to wait for the results of the investigation. These are not normal times, however and the left is going to do just the opposite, encouraging rioting and seeking retribution.

What? No! We can't have a socialist-marxist-communist-whatever country! No, to be a strong society we must punish evil doers! Outdated tabs on a car is just the pretext we need cops to have so they can sort out the good guys (us) from the bad guys (them). So what if a few of them get killed by accident? As long as we are all still safe in our suburban gated communities. Can't make a soufflé without breaking some eggs. With this uprising the last few nights we know where to send in more cops and arrest the agitators. Hopefully some of them will resist and try to run too.

Typical BS. Ignore the outstanding warrant for illegally carrying an unlicense and unregistered firearm; and evading police the first time.  That is the reason they were arresting him. Outdated tabs, which they pull white motorists over for as well, had nothing to do with the reason for the arrest.

So what if a few of them get killed by accident?

He wouldn't have been killed if he hadn't resisted arrest and tried to flee a second time. Guess they should have expected that from the first time. That is on the LEO's for not taking proper precautions so he couldn't have tried to escape.

As long as we are all still safe in our suburban gated communities.

You live in a gate community? Must be nice. Most of us can't afford that and have to live in the real world; and fend for ourselves.

Can't make a soufflé without breaking some eggs. With this uprising the last few nights we know where to send in more cops and arrest the agitators.

You mean the rioters. Leftists can never call something what it really is.

Hopefully some of them will resist and try to run too.

You mean after assaulting police and injuring innocent bystanders first? I am sure the shops that were vandalized and looted by the BLM and Antifa rioters were guilty of something./S Funny how the left wants the kid gloves to come off when the far alt right riot; but for their leftist Brown Shirt riots it is strictly "hands off"!

What will happen with the attempt to federalize policing?  Don't know yet. In the meantime cops are quitting in droves. Those who remain aren't going to put themselves in jeopardy of being fired and/or convicted of some crime or worse. This is going to get a lot worse before people feel the need for safety.

Yesterday right here on NT we heard someone ask:"Would you agree that any shot at someone trying to drive away is a shot to kill?"  Hours later we find that it was an accidental shooting.

Big deal , the original story I read said he was shot while driving away. Any shot from behind the car at someone driving away would in effect be a shot to kill as the only thing that could be hit would be the drivers head or neck. The original story turned out to be incomplete or not totally accurate.

I accept that the woman cop shot him by accident.

Let's ask the question why was he stopped in the first place, and why did they "run his license".  Did he look suspicious?

Why wasnt he just given a warning to take care of the expired registration?

I saw the press conference and I thought the questions to the police chief were quite antagonistic. I dont think the "traffic stop" would have gone the same way if Wright were white, but now that it's done the cop that shot him has to be given due process.

People who have expired license plates are usually just told to take care of it as soon as possible.

It would really help if cops tried to do that or similar with young black drivers.

Instead we have a situation where young black males think they should make a break for it or they might end up like George Floyd.  Clearly not a good atmosphere.

Let's ask the question why was he stopped in the first place, and why did they "run his license".  Did he look suspicious?

If you actually read the articles posted he was stopped because his vehicle tags were out of date. They stop anyone and everyone for that regardless of race, color, religion, or sex; and yes they issue tickets for that! I have personally been in cars that have been stopped for expired tags. Not one of them got off w/o a ticket!

Why wasnt he just given a warning to take care of the expired registration?

Because they ran his driver's license, which is standard procedure, and the warrant came back for him carrying an unlicensed/unregistered firearm and evading arrest. Also, why shouldn't they give a ticket for the expired tags at the very least? Maybe they should have just apologized for pulling him over; and let him go on his merry way once they found out he was African American? Maybe they should create a slide rule to factor in race, sex, religion, and everything else. White males get

I dont think the "traffic stop" would have gone the same way if Wright were white,

You have proof that they would have violated basic procedures if he was white? Would love to see it. Not everyone is as racist as the left.

but now that it's done the cop that shot him has to be given due process.

Damn it of all the audacity! Thinking that the officer actually has rights under the law! Don't worry the Democrats are looking at doing away with due process. It takes too damn long and sometimes doesn't give the results they want. Now everything will be done in the court of public opinion; and of course Conservatives and Republicans opinions will not count. We have just gone through a five year test run of it at the federal level.

"Nearly daily"? Please quit with the hyperbole. As per the left's fabrications trying to turn criminals into martyrs in many instances. Yes, there have been mistakes, errors in judgement, and sometimes outright illegal killings; but please don't act like it only happens to African Americans. The Democrats and media just like to use it as a political dog whistle.

Do tell how the rights of an officer somehow supersede the rights of a citizen.

Where in the hell did I say that? I agreed with former head of police when he said the officer would be allowed "due process"; for which he was fired! Or is the officer not allowed due process. I know the left doesn't believe in due process; but everyone is entitled to it.

Let's ask the question why was he stopped in the first place, and why did they "run his license".  Did he look suspicious?

My understanding is that whenever a ticket is being written the license is run. I recall riding with someone who was stopped for speeding. They ran his license and found there was a warrant on him (not seeing his probation officer). They called for backup. He was handcuffed and held until they could schedule a court hearing. He was a white Irish American postal worker, so to pick up on what you are implying - Did he look suspicious or do we just grant Black Americans immunity from the law?

Why wasnt he just given a warning to take care of the expired registration?

Usually that's granted to people with a perfect driving record. It's a rare discretion that is left up to the officer seldom given out like candy.

I saw the press conference and I thought the questions to the police chief were quite antagonistic.

Agreed. One admitted to being an activist involved in the protest.

SOP to run license of someone during a stop.

Because he had outstanding warrants. Why didn't he simply get his tags on time like millions of others manage to do? Why did he have any warrants to begin with?

I've always just decided my opinion on the individual; I don't understand lumping people into groups by race, sex, sexual orientation, color, religion, political affiliation and any other friggen "named" grouping. There’s more than one kind of person in a riot. Some people are authentically angry, but I think it’s rarely about the one triggering incident. They are acting out of frustration from a pattern of similar incidents. Those people, I think, are understandable. Unfortunately, some other people are simply opportunists, using the moment to commit crime or promote chaos.

Always  an excuse to justify violence. Dismissing physical assaults and gunfire as  being "loud" is SOP.

An even quicker turnaround to justify attacking police than I thought. Obviously,  Officer Sicknick was just a tool to be exploited (with lies about how he died no less)  but it was a nice couple weeks there where democrats pretended to be  outraged that a mob could attack police. Now it's back to normal.

How Orwellian. Criticizing violence is "justifying violence."

ut your head in the sand and act like it never happens.

Unarmed blacks are killed by police  about 20 times a year.  For comparison, 58 police were killed by violence last year.  Cows kill about 20  people a year.

ttack police? Ask the insurrectionists about that..

So now it's bad again? Or were the insurrectionists just being "loud"

Given that so many  liberals believe that nonsense, do you think they have a grasp on the issue they are protesting? Thanks for the response. I too appreciate your contributions as well.

I'm a proponent of root-cause analysis. Do I think it's pretty difficult to mistake a taser with a pistol? ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY! Do I think this particular instance as race-related? No. I think this female police officer panicked out of fear; whether it was warranted or not doesn't really matter, she reacted poorly, but still deserves due processing.

The facts that we actually know:

1) Daunte Wright had expired plates; thus, warranting a traffic stop.

2) The officers ran the plates and driver's license and found an outstanding warrant.

3) Daunte Wright attempted to get back into the driver's seat of his vehicle [I'm not completely sure if it was during his arrest or just before, I will be honest, I didn't watch any video].

4) Officer Kim Potter shot Daunte and then claimed that she thought that she had her taser in her hands.

5) Kamala Harris and Rashida Tlaib are making this political.

6) Riots and looting occurred in MN with the claims of being angry with the system.

In my personal opinion, the last two points really don't have anything at all to do with what happened to Daunte, but with the claims that they are, I decided to add them. The ends do not justify the means for Daunte nor MN businesses. You know who loses here? Daunte's family and the business owners.

Maybe she just gets fired from her job- if she doesn't quit first. Maybe she gets a lesser sentence of involuntary manslaughter. But the rabid left already has her convicted and sentenced for first degree murder. No trial or investigation needed!

How convenient the left forgets that he was carrying an illegal fire arm and evaded police the first time; and that there was a warrant for his arrest.

You remember the idiot resisted arrest and who ran from police not once but twice? He wouldn't be dead if he had follow the damn law.

But hey "Hands up! Don't shoot" bullshit is still going around; so it shouldn't be too hard to keep this lie alive as well for the left.

The officer will get her day in court; sorry- no passing "due process". She has the same damn rights to a fair and impartial trial as the criminals the left loves to defend (unless they are alt right criminals- then it is straight to prison, no trial needed). Do you really think she will get a fair trial given the rabid leftists.

"Our hearts are heavy over yet another shooting of a Black man, Daunte Wright, at the hands of police. The fact that this could happen even as the city of Minneapolis is going through the trial of Derek Chauvin and reliving the heart-wrenching murder of George Floyd indicates not just how important it is to conduct a full and transparent investigation, but also just how badly we need to reimagine policing and public safety in this country."

UPDATE:

Members of the violent far-left activist group  Antifa  identified themselves to a Fox News reporter who was on scene in Brooklyn Center, Minn., ahead of  another night of unrest  following the  police-involved  shooting of a motorist on Sunday.

Correspondent  Mike Tobin  joined  "The Ingraham Angle"  to give the latest from the scene where throngs of protesters and law enforcement faced off following the reportedly accidental shooting death of Daunte Wright, 20, by now-resigned Officer Kimberly Potter.

Potter has said she meant to reach for her taser instead of her gun while involved in an altercation with Wright at his car.

Tobin, who was relocating to another part of the town at the time, spoke to Ingraham from inside a vehicle.

"I can tell you this. The makeup of the population out here certainly changed tonight. I think Sunday night it was all about the locals that were here: They were genuine and angry," he said.

"As it goes on, you get more people coming in from out of town. I had several people that I spoke with who identified themselves as Antifa -- and angrily so. So you had that crowd out here."

"We saw an increased number of kids 'wearing the uniform' if you will, the black hoodies, the backpacks. I saw leaf-blowers out there, different kinds of ... makeshift shields and things. It was changing dramatically in terms of the makeup, and certainly the numbers of the crowd."

Host  Laura Ingraham  added that, following some of the protest groups social media accounts, she read that they have been warning fellow activists that police were heard on radio scanners potentially planning "mass arrests" of people engaged in unrest.

"I guess it is ticking them off even more," she said. "So that is something that we should also take a look out for. Look, the mayor of St. Paul and the mayor of  Minneapolis  both said they would not tolerate looting and violence. They both made that clear despite what we saw last night and the night before."

"Yeah, they say they won't tolerate looting and violence but there's still looting and violence," Tobin replied. "Then you had the [Brooklyn Center] Mayor Mike Elliott suggest, as you noted, that if there was a curfew and it to be enforced -- it sounded like what he was saying you're drawing a line in the sand -- and that it gives them something to defy and it creates a dynamic, he said, an excuse for more arrests."

Minnesota  police made more than 60 arrests for  rioting  and other offenses during protests for Daunte Wright on Tuesday night in Brooklyn Center, Minn.

Officers  took people into custody for "riot and other criminal behaviors," Minnesota State Patrol Colonel Matt Langer said in a news conference early Wednesday morning. "The behaviors that we continue to see are unacceptable and we are not going to tolerate them ...It is not acceptable and it will not be tolerated if you choose to do criminal activity and destroy property and throw objects and make it unsafe for people to come and exercise their First Amendment rights."

Langer said he didn't have the exact numbers of how many had been arrested.

Some of the rioters had thrown projectiles, including bricks and bottles, at officers, Booker Hodges, an assistant commissioner for the Minnesota Department for Public Safety, said.
