TGIF for democrats
“I guess I need to start looking at cutting back on my air travel now as well as curtailing other daily activities like eating hamburgers,” Mr. Bishop quipped in a statement.

It has been a bad week for democrats. Just when it looked liked Nancy Pelosi had given their hate filled base something to cheer about by forcing the President to back down on the government shutdown along came some disturbing developments.

state-of-the-union-By-Donald-Trump-2018-

The State of the Union Speech.

The speech was well written (word has it that Steve Miller had a lot to do with it) and extremely well received.

Polls conducted by both CNN and CBS gave the President high marks:

"About three-quarters of those who tuned in to the State of the Union on Tuesday approved of what President Trump said in the address, according to two instant polls.

A   CBS News poll found   that 76 percent of speech-watchers approved of Trump's remarks, and 72 percent specifically approved of what he had to say about immigration. Additionally, 71 percent of those polled agreed with Trump that there is a crisis on the southern border. Twenty-four percent of respondents disapproved of the speech.

The overwhelming majority of Republicans — 97 percent — approved, but Trump also earned the approval of 82 percent of independents. Only 30 percent of Democrats approved of the speech. The margin of error in this CBS poll, which was conducted by speaking to 1,472 U.S. adults who watched the State of the Union, is 3 percentage points.

Meanwhile,   CNN found   that 59 percent of speech-watchers had a very positive reaction, up from 48 percent in 2018, while 17 percent had a somewhat positive reaction, and only 23 percent had a negative reaction. CNN's poll was conducted by speaking to 584 U.S. adults who watched the speech, and the margin of error is 5.4 percentage points."

The Virginia debacle.

If such a story were part of a plot in a novel, nobody would believe it. The democratic Governor, democratic Lt Governor and democratic AG are all embroiled in scandals. The next in line of succession is a Republican. The issues involve real racism (as opposed to the progressive misuse of the term) and sexual misconduct. A serious matter for the party, which supposedly has a no tolerance policy for such conduct. The sexual misconduct is a huge issue for women, who are now hearing the accuser being not so readily taken seriously. It is a betrayal of the "Me Too" movement, which was hijacked by the left and is now in danger of being burned to the ground, since the accused happens to be a democrat who could step into the Governor's position.

The Green New Deal

It's going to be tough for Speaker Pelosi to sweep this radical wish list out of the public consciousness. A complete transformation of the US within 10 years which would make the country green & Socialist. Make no mistake about it, Alexandria Ocasio- Cortez is the natural heir to Barak Obama. (if only she was old enough to run for President!). What Obama implemented in tiny increments, Cortez finishes off with a flourish. The problem is that it all too clearly gives the American people a close up view of what the progressive wing of the democratic party looks like.

And the Virginia debacle has now engulfed republicans. Thomas Norment the republican majority leaders in the VA senate is in the dumpster fire as well.

You see Vic, when one party claims to be pure as the driven snow it seems that they don't want to take a close look at members of their own party...

And the republican party in Florida is still feeling the sting of their new Secretary of State having to resign over photos of him mocking black women in the Katrina disaster.

You have a good weekend as well.

From the very article you posted.

Mr. Norment, in a statement released by his office Thursday, said, “The use of blackface is abhorrent in our society and I emphatically condemn it.” He said he was part of a seven-member team at the Bomb, “a 359-page yearbook,” and added, “I cannot endorse or associate myself with every photo, entry, or word on each page.” He noted that he did not appear in the offensive pictures and said he did not take those photos.

So unless you can prove he was directly associated with the pictures in any way- this is a nothing burger.  Nice attempt at deflection.

Keep digging though. I am sure they can come up with something someone in did in some Republican's family history that they can try to through out as more red meat.

Not deflection at all Ronin, did you see that he was the top editor of the yearbook when the photo were taken and posted in the book.

And what, nothing to say about the republican Secretary of State in Florida....Is that deflection as well?

Nice try, no cigar.

Actually it isn't about whatboutism, it's simply pointing out that racism occurs on both sides. Since the article wasaboutism of the left, a opposing view showing that republicans practice what they are condemning  is not a whatboutism...

Do you have proof he had access and gave approval of every picture? Seven other members to his team. Unless you have proof this is still nothing but a BS attempt at diversion from the Democrats scandals.

But keep stroking for all your worth. As for Florida- that is old news, and he did the right thing and resigned. Why not get the Dems to light a fire under their 3 in Virginia to do the correct thing?

Since he was top dog so to speak, it would seem that he would have final say on what goes into the book...But keep on spinning there Rodin.

It's really not old news in Florida...Perhaps you can ask the politicians of both parties in VA why they are not resigning....Or ask Steve King and his ilk why he isn't resigning.

I'm sure that old Steve will give you a straight answer.

In fact, VMI was the last public college in VA to integrate.  Although VMI is quick to point out that they did so without any lawsuits, it was a threat by the Feds to withhold

Federal funding that brought about the acceptance of Harry Gore and three others in 1968.

Coincidence?

It has been hinted at, that that is the reason for the blackface and racial slurs found in the 1968 yearbook.  White backlash.

Old Steve can probably verify that, but he won't.

One difference I can see in the directionality of above argument is the word 'resigns' .. the Florida Secretary of State 'resigns' is the headline...

I am not a fan of digging up the past and holding an individual accountable for something (ignorance) that happened 20 + ish years ago, but it is now 'all the rage' .. so when one resigns without a fight, have they not done the right thing and taking steps to atone for their behavior …? …. unlike what is happening in Virginia with the 'dumpster fires'...?

None of us are the same person we were decades ago (thank goodness). The rush to judgement and the rush to defend leaves little room for thoughtful discussion.

Yet a thoughtful discussion needs to be had .. if one cannot be honest and have an open dialogue about the subject of race / racism there will never be healing.  I have been told about this much needed conversation my entire life - almost 53 years … now that the conversation is knocking at the door, no one is willing to have it...?  An A lister comes forward with a struggle he once had, something that could have become a life long ugliness and all I am hearing is what will these racist remarks mean for his 'Hollywood future' … what the fuck?  If this is not the opening to an honest thoughtful discussion .. what is?  For the first time in my life, I wondering what a figure from the past would be saying to said A lister .. What would MLK's thoughts be?  Would he be finding the 'teaching moments' that you speak of (?) I think he would see an open door to conversation...

I have had to step away for a bit .. based on comments that I have read and my reactions - I do not believe I am yet ready to come back (have deleted many comments this morning)   I want to discuss things like: what does an individual need to do in order to be considered 'changed/reformed' ... when does ones past NO longer haunt them? Some have said it would be better if Northam had come forward and dealt with his past black face … so the third guy in line behind Northam does open up about his black face misstep, yet he is now embroiled in controversy as well … thus telling me 'hypocrisy rules' and there is NO thoughtful conversation to be had...!

I am good razing, I am trusting you and yours are as well .. My lil piece of the world is engulfed in frigid weather .. take a walk in the desert for me : ) please...

Peace...

I'd like to say this will help them learn their lesson but i'm sure it won't help at all.

We didn't attack the Kavanaugh accusers, we attacked their stories.  Several of which proved not only false, but as perjury to Congress.  Ford couldn't remember anything accurately and she did give several different versions to multiple people, which made her final story quite suspect as to when it occurred and whom was involved.  If you remember, when someone is accused of something it is up to the accuser to provide proof to back up the story they are telling.  What would you say and do if I were to accuse you of committing a heinous crime without proof that would destroy your entire life after you were nominated for a top job in the government?

You cannot go the Sandmann route of suing for slander and libel, since you became a public figure after being nominated.

.
“It has been the objective of this year’s Bomb staff to concentrate on the VMI as it exists in actuality, not in theory.”
.

It's also notable that VA Gov.Northam is a 1981 graduate of VMI.

Vic, have you ever looked at the "Green New Deal" without conservative blinders on? Some of what it calls for is right here.

The plan also proposes massive investments in research and development to make the U.S. a leader in clean energy technology. In addition, the Green New Deal envisioned by Ocasio-Cortez aims to implement progressive policies such as a federal jobs guarantee, basic income and universal health care.

I thought conservatives were for creating jobs.

Some seem to be having trouble grasping that concept.

In 1949 (old style liberal) Historian Arthur Schlesinger wrote a book titled "The Vital Center". It was kind of skewed to begin with, with Conservatism on one side and the authoritarian Socialist & Communist regimes on the other. His "vital center" was supposed to be a liberal democracy. Take a look at where Cortez & company has moved the left to. Today's democratic party is under the control of the biggest collection of extremists this side of Havana. A million miles from where liberalism started out during the splendid decade.

With near full employment, where are the folks going to come from to implement her new policies?

The third world. Right over the southern border.

Where is the money going to come from?

If they didn't worry about it when they passed Obamacare, they certainly won't think about it now. We are already $22 Trillion in debt. They plan to print up the money and destroy every bit of capitol and middle class savings in the process.

Then you are in good company. You might try talking to someone who lives in a country where such a system exists. You may discover that there are many who are content to sit at home and others who would collect the benefits while working under the table.

In the UK t here were an estimated 8.65 million people aged from 16 to 64 years who were economically inactive.
