Roger Ailes and the women of Fox
Showtime has produced a series entitled "The Loudest Voice" , which is a tendentious account of Fox News first CEO Roger Ailes. The series will focus on Ailes problems with sexual harassment. Roger Ailes who did have flaws, also deserves some credit for saving the Conservatism of William F Buckley and Ronald Reagan as well as providing the American public with an alternative to the left wing bias of the mainstream media. He won't get any from Showtime. Ailes began his career as a media consultant for Presidents Richard Nixon, the great Ronald Reagan and George H W Bush. Then after working at CNBC (as President) and eventually creating MSNBC, fate intervened and Rupert Murdock offered him the position of CEO of Fox News in 1996.
Fox News under Ailes leadership was a combination of hard news shows like Sheppard Smith (at 3:PM) and "America's Newsroom" (from 9;AM to 12:PM) to the more nuanced Bret Baier's "Special Report" at 6:PM and eventually to the more opinion like analysis shows once made famous by Bill O'Reilly. The analysis was & is typically from the Conservative perspective, but there was always the other side - the liberal who sits in to counter the host or the guest. If all that wasn't enough, Ailes had a vision of what the Fox woman would be. She would be both attractive and articulate. It's part of what has become accepted as the Fox formula of success. Unfortunately, Ailes used his power over these women to satisfy his own demented desires. It led to his eventual downfall. Despite the dramatic, well publicized, behind the scenes issues, Fox has thrived and I'm proud to say, launched the careers of many highly regarded news Women.

Fox News continues to be the top rated Cable news channel and is broadcast to over 40 countries.
Roger Ailes reshaped the news narrative as America's mainstream news media had been drifting ever leftward. America began to lose honest journalism during the Vietnam War. Ailes righted things and for that he deserves credit. Like so many other American pioneers, his positive contributions outweighed his negative attributes.

One of Ailes accomplishments in keeping up ratings was keeping fox on the lower tiers of cable companies.
Around here one has to pay extra and upgrade their cable package to get CNN.
Where I live, I have to pay extra for FNC, FBC, CNN, and MSNBC. That's how it rolls.
And I get all those cable news stations with my Verizon package.
Go to the airport and all you get is CNN. Is CNN paying for that?
