Trump Sings Praises Of American Exceptionalism In Elaborate July 4 Salute

Huge crowd, despite the earlier rain. His speech really made the leftist crazy attacks on him seem extra petty.

Via Fox News:

With the Lincoln Memorial in the background and flanked on both sides by camouflaged Bradley fighting vehicles, President Trump used his “Salute to America” speech Thursday evening to praise the men and women of the Armed Forces and American exceptionalism.

Despite concerns that he would use the Fourth of July event as a glorified campaign rally, Trump stuck mainly to the script during his speech – praising the spirit that “runs through the veins of every American patriot” and attempting to strike a more unifying and conciliatory tone than he is generally known to take.

“Today, we come together as one nation with this very special Salute to America,” a smiling Trump said. “We celebrate our history, our people, and the heroes who proudly defend our flag — the brave men and women of the United States military.”

From George Washington leading the Continental Army to the Apollo 11 moon landing, Trump rattled off a list of American accomplishments and inventions in the name of freedom, while surreptitiously sneaking in a boast about his administration’s accomplishments.

“Americans love our freedom and no one will ever take it away from us,” Trump said to chants of “U-S-A.” “Our nation is stronger today than it ever was before, it is stronger now stronger than ever.”

...Everybody knows America is number one, which is why, even among the hating class of Americans, no one ever leaves. Ta-Nehisi Coates and Spike Lee haven’t moved to France. Gavin Newsom isn’t moving to Mexico. Colin Kaepernick isn’t moving to Cuba. Lena Dunham, Bryan Cranston, Barbra Streisand and all the other celebrities who threatened/promised to move to Canada are still here. Hell, we can’t even get the Canadian-born whiners and haters (like Seth Rogen and Jim Carrey) to move back.

America didn’t complete the project of freedom on that broiling day in Philly, but that’s like saying your kid’s first day of school is no big deal because your kids can’t do algebra yet. On July 4, 1776, we began setting up the greatest opportunity for human flourishing the world has ever known, and our example continues to be the world’s beacon. The United States of America isn’t perfect. We’re merely the best....https://nypost.com/2019/07/03/this-fourth-of-july-why-have-we-lost-our-patriotism/

Why would any of the major networks change their schedule to show this?  They've never shown 4th of July shows from the nations capital on the major networks, it is always on PBS.

I watched Trump's show on CBSN, which they showed without any pundit commentary or any other announcer.

On the whole it was an embarrassment, although I guess seeing the military planes come directly over the crowd was pretty cool.  Trump is WAY in over his head when he tries to narrate something like this. He's not that good at reading, quite frankly. Had they hired an actor to do the military narration it would have been a better show. But the whole thing was about Trump so of course he was the narrator, disastrously.

It was a gathering and speech that makes one proud to be anAmerican. Everyone I’ve spoken with is so proud of President Trump and our nation.

at our Senior resort gathering for the 4th, hundreds of us seniors cheered the president. Most of the men are Veterans and we agreed that we miss that kind of patriotic display.

so the left can mock and criticize all they want, but millions of us are very proud tonight of our president, our military, and our nation

Let's see they are inherently biased and have lied to the American public for about 3 years!. I guess there's no going back now, John, is there?

Kind of like what happened to Newsvine and is what is happening here.  It's July 5th, 1:30 PM EST and outside of this seed, just about every seed on the front page is a leftist double down of the false narrative concerning the 4th of July events, which we were told would be a massive demonstration of military might combined with a political speech. No guilt or remorse on the part of liberals, instead they go on.

There were about a half dozen instances in the narration where the crowd was supposed to cheer, but didnt, because of the poor reading given the lines by Trump. Then he would stop and wait for the crowd to clap.  Amateur hour.

Trump followed his speech with an individual honor to each branch of the U.S. military -- Coast Guard, Navy, Army, Air Force and Marines.

Despite the cloudy skies, Trump's speech was punctuated by flyovers by military aircraft ranging from the Air Forces F-22 Raptors and B-2 Stealth Bomber to the Navy's F-18 Super Hornets and Army Apache helicopters.

"Today, just as it did 243 years ago, the future of American Freedom rests on the shoulders of men and women willing to defend it," Trump said. "As long as we stay true to our cause — as long as we remember our great history — and as long as we never stop fighting for a better future—then there will be nothing that America cannot do."

"We will never forget that we are Americans, and the future belongs to us," he said. "We share one home, one heart and we are all made by one almighty God."

It would have been nice if he did something like this on, say, Veterans Day, or Memorial Day instead of a July 4th Birth of a nation

celebration.

I really don't care for mixing any religion with my patriotism either.

"We share one home, one heart and we are all made by one almighty God."

nothing could be further from the truth IMHO.

This vehicle looks like a privately owned old Bradley fighting vehicle in "grunge" camouflage, with a deactivated gun mount, missing at least 2 antenae

and some of the missing optical equipment on top is mocked up in cardboard and duct tape,

the whole thing being transported on a non military flat bed of some sort, presumably a POV.

Looks as embarrassing as the Russian news reported.

Sad.

Why not pay tribute to our military?  Our independence was forged in war and our army, navy, coast guard, and marines were all founded during this war.  As for mixing religion with patriotism, just about every patriotic song we have mentions God in at least one of its verses.  God Bless America, America the Beautiful, My Country ‘Tis of Thee, The Star Spangled Banner, Im Proud to Be an American. Oh and the Blue Angels display during the Battle Hymn of the Republic must have really offended.  Should we dispense with all that. The part about Jesus dying to make men holy while we were dying to make men free....

David Brooks , the moderate Republican New York Times columnist compared trump's approach about the military to the war like ancient Romans.

You can skip over the first 25 seconds or so.

JUDY WOODRUFF: So let's talk about what the president had to say last night.
David Brooks   :   ....it struck me that really is the Trump story, that he goes to the military as a source
of American values, and then contrasts that to the hostile world outside.
And that's one story of America.
I don't think it's the real story.
I think it's the story of Rome, frankly.
Our stories, we have military power, but that's not really what the American story is about.
For most Americans, it would be, we're an immigrant country who provided social mobility
and really liberation for a lot of people who came from oppressed lands.
That's actually not -- obviously can't be the Trump story, because he doesn't believe
in that story.
I would say we're the story that believes in democracy, and democracy is the belief
in the universal dignity of all people.
And it's -- so, we have a strong military, but not for itself.
We have a strong military to realize the promise of democracy, the promise of human dignity.
And Trump doesn't really go there.
He gives us basically what is a pagan Roman story.

John Adams on future celebrations of the 4th of July

“I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.

You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. -- I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. -- Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not.”

Original manuscript: Adams, John. Letter from John Adams to Abigail Adams, 3 July 1776, "Had a Declaration..." . 3 pages. Original manuscript from the Adams Family Papers, Massachusetts Historical Society.

1798: Now president, John Adams reviews a military parade in Philadelphia as the young nation flexes its muscle.

Our independence was forged in war and our army, navy, coast guard, and marines were all founded during this war.

The Coast Guard was formed in 1915

The history of the United States Coast Guard goes back to the United States Revenue Cutter Service , which was founded on 4 August 1790 as part of the Department of the Treasury . The Revenue Cutter Service and the United States Life-Saving Service were merged to become the Coast Guard per 14 U.S.C.   § 1 which states: "The Coast Guard as established January 28, 1915, shall be a military service and a branch of the armed forces of the United States at all times." In 1939, the United States Lighthouse Service was merged into the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard itself was moved to the Department of Transportation in 1967, and on 25 February 2003 it became part of the Department of Homeland Security . However, under 14 U.S.C.   § 3 as amended by section 211 of the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Act of 2006, upon the declaration of war and when Congress so directs in the declaration, or when the President directs, the Coast Guard operates as a service in the Department of the Navy .

The Trump 4th of July festivities were impressive, especially to those who are unable to grasp the meaning of the impress.

All is good.  The detention centers are doing well.  Something about airfields in The Revolutionary War was enlightening.  Ivanka was nearby.  And just as well that the cost to the taxpayers for 'the event' is a secret.  After all, in Trumpian World the best spent money is someone else's.

It just a formality, they walk right into the country from there.

About as enlightening as an American President thinking Lincoln "founded" the GOP. The difference is the media covered for Obama's mistake, didn't they?

And just as well that the cost to the taxpayers for 'the event' is a secret.

Getty Trump 4th of July Crowd

President Donald Trump hosted a Fourth of July event Thursday called Salute to America. Despite some reports you might have seen on Twitter saying that almost no one attended, the attendance was actually quite significant. The photos you may have seen circulating were misleading, as thousands attended the Salute to America event, according to photos shared by people who were there and a live stream of the event. An estimated attendance isn’t available yet, but we will add it to the story if one is shared. Just how many people attended his event? Learn more and see crowd photos below.

As you can see from the photo below, the attendance was massive during Salute to America. Of course, one question is if any of those in the crowd photo on the National Mall were there for other Fourth of July events happening or fireworks later. That’s tough to determine, but we do know these people were at the National Mall before Trump’s event started.

I think of the 4th of July as a day when families and friends gather and go to a picnic where they play softball and eat hot dogs and potato salad and gather at nightfall to watch the town fireworks by the lake or at the local high school football stadium.

Trump thinks of it as obliterating other nations.

Trump has to make the day about the military and feats of armed strength because he could never in a million years speak about the Enlightenment principles of political philosophy that led up to the Declaration of Independence.

After we watched the President and the Battle Hymn of the Republic with all the flyovers, our family had a BBQ dinner and then we went to the city park center to see the fireworks after the kids played in the park.  We had a beautiful 25 minute show with half the total shot off in the final 3 minutes.

Some may have thought there was another way than the obliterating of the Axis Powers during World War Two or that we should never take credit for doing so leaving the credit with Moscow where some think the real credit lies.  Some mourn the fact that peace through strength and trust but verify led to the wrong nation leading the world now.
