U.S. Congressman Joaquin Castro, a Democrat who represents a large portion of San Antonio, published a list of 44 San Antonio residents on Tuesday afternoon in an attempt to shame them and drive away customers from their businesses. Their crime? Donating to the Trump presidential campaign.

“Sad to see so many San Antonians as 2019 maximum donors to Donald Trump — the owner of ⁦ @BillMillerBarBQ ⁩, owner of the ⁦ @HistoricPearl , realtor Phyllis Browning, etc⁩,” Castro  wrote . “Their contributions are fueling a campaign of hate that labels Hispanic immigrants as ‘invaders.’”

Joaquin Castro is the twin brother of Julián Castro, the former Obama HUD secretary and San Antonio mayor who is also a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate. Joaquin serves as chairman of his brother’s presidential campaign, which is currently polling at  1.6 percent  in the Texas Democratic primary, according to Emerson.

David Rutz of the  Washington Free Beacon   observes  that Joaquin Castro’s “sad to see” comment is a step away from saying it’d “be a shame if something bad happened to your business.’” Other p oliticians, such as Donald Trump himself, have been known to target big businesses, such as Jeff Bezos’s Amazon and the NFL. Castro’s targeting the owners of small businesses and even some retirees seems particularly off-putting.

Putting people in danger, trying to create fear as a political weapon. The kind of thing done in Cuba or Iran or North Korea.

These are the Democrats now.  They can't debate their policies so they try to destroy their competition by any means possible.

Usually these dirty tricks backfire.  If I was in San Antonio, I would be having a good BBQ dinner tonight.

What is "sad to see" is he is a Congressional member.

Deplorable behavior.

If trump published  an enemies list of private citizens with their home addresses at a rally, the media would rightfully lose their mind.

Speaking on "America's Newsroom," Conway scoffed at Castro's defense of the tweet, in which he said the names were already public record.

"It doesn't matter that it's public record. It matters that he's put together some kind of target list and he's trying to make life miserable or worse for law-abiding citizens who are expressing their First Amendment right to put their money where their politics is," she said, calling for Castro to remove the tweet.

If trump published  an enemies list of private citizens with their home addresses at a rally

"Cliff Sims worked on Trump's 2016 campaign and then for the White House as a communications aide until May 2018."

"Sims, (said) he was in a private huddle with the president and Keith Schiller, his personal bodyguard and longtime aide. They helped Trump write an enemies list using a Sharpie and White House stationery. "We're going to get rid of all the snakes, even the bottom-feeders," Trump said, according to Sims."

I guess having an actual private enemies list is far better than saying "sad to see" some person or business donated to Trump.

Does anyone remember right after Trump was elected that Chuck Schumer said there were areas where democrats could work with President Trump?

If you can't here:

Schumer had a long relationship with Trump going back to their days in New York when Trump contributed to Schumer. What happened to that idea of working with the President? First the biased media reporters took on the Senate Minority leader & the Spaker:

Eventually, Schumer's home was besieged by intimidating protesters:

The Democratic Party has always used threats and intimidation since the party was created.  Everyone has forgotten that Democrats created the Ku Klux Klan for the purpose of threatening and intimidating people (not just voters).

The Democratic Party hasn't changed its political methods in two hundred years.  Today's Democratic Party has only attracted a diversity of bigots into its big tent of hate.  And if anyone doesn't like it then obviously they are racists who will be the target of Democratic threats and intimidation.  The Democratic Party of Jackson is still the Democratic Party of Jackson after two hundred years.

Can we try again.

This is why partisan politics stinks. Each side points fingers at each other for the same garbage they have pulled in the past. It's petty and it tears at the fabric of this nation.

And for the record, I don't approve of this, but to make it sound like it's just the Dems that do it, is inaccurate.

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” - DJT

How is that not harassing and intimidating Mexican immigrants and their families?

A letter signed by Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) states that “the news of impactful, real progress on turning our nation around was undercut by biased media and hundreds of millions of dollars of anti-Republican propaganda put out by liberal special interests, funded by deep-pocketed far-left billionaires George Soros, Tom Steyer and Michael Bloomberg.”

How is that not the GOP harassing and intimidating private citizens and their businesses? The constant unfounded accusations against Soros are just one of many attacks on individuals that the Republicans regularly employ.

Be careful Perrie. Palin is currently suing the New York Times for its' false claim that this ad had something to do with Giffords being shot. The Times already formally retracted its statement. I'd avoid having to do the same thing.

There was no connection between the Giffords shooting and this target map (which mimicked a similar ad by the DCCC). To claim one exists is dishonest. the loon who shot her was mad she could't answer his deranged question about grammer at a townhall.

The Democratic Party has definitely engaged in racial politics using threats and intimidation for the last two hundred years.  The Democratic Party really is responsible for creating the Ku Klux Klan.  Blaming others won't change the history of the Democratic Party.  The Democratic Party was established to be the party of slavery and racial division.

Pointing fingers at others won't change the history of the Democratic Party.  Tearing down all the statues of southern Democrats may hide the party's past but the stain of history is still there.

The history of the Democratic Party is not partisan.  History is history.  If that history is unacceptable then why be a Democrat?

And btw.. this goes both ways. How about armed Trump supporters showing up at a reps office?

Link please?

PHOENIX   — On Thursday, January 25, 2018, several armed Trump supporters, carrying Trump flags, surrounded Arizona state Representative Pamela Hannley and yelled at her about her “protecting illegals” near the state Capitol in Phoenix. Close by, on their way to lunch, were Representative Eric Descheenie (D-Chinle) and Representative Wenona Benally (D-Window Rock). Both are Navajo.

NEVER....It is the tactics of the left and only the left.

I'm truly sorry that you are blind to the problem. This is a tactic of both parties, no matter how you want to see it.

You are conflating the two. This has nothing to do with impeachment. This has to do with donations to the Trump campaign.

The former El Paso City Council member and congressman held nothing back. He condemned Trump as “a racist” who “stokes racism in this country.” He challenged those who might coddle Trump or make excuses for a president who takes no responsibility for vile words and deeds. O’Rourke refused to go along anymore with the standard candidate-reporter exchanges regarding the man he proposes to challenge. “What do you think? You know the shit he’s been saying. He’s been calling Mexican immigrants rapists and criminals,” O’Rourke said of Trump. “I don’t know, like, members of the press, what the fuck? Hold on a second. He is allowed to spend his money legally on elections because he is an American. Not that I necessarily support his POV, which I state before that gets twisted into something else.

I would only be generous if I agreed with this tactic, which I said from the get-go that I am not. I had 2 points to make here:

  1. That partisan politics had gone way too far.
  2. That no party is as white as snow.

We are not talking about race politics here. We are talking about intimidation in politics.

We're not talking about racial politics?  Then why is Joaquin Castro quoted as writing “Their contributions are fueling a campaign of hate that labels Hispanic immigrants as ‘invaders.’”

Democrats have used racial politics to intimidate people throughout the history of the Democratic Party.  The Castro example is all about using race to justify intimidation.

The moment anyone declares themself to be loyal to a party.. any party, they are partisan. I am an independent. I hold no such party loyalty, hence my position on this subject.

That doesn't change the question.  If the history of the Democratic Party is unacceptable then why be a Democrat?  For independents that question would become why support Democrats?

The history of the Democratic Party is not partisan; it's historical fact.  Nathan Bedford Forrest was a Democrat and the Ku Klux Klan he created were Democrats using threats and intimidation to win elections.  George Wallace was a Democrat.  Democrats switching targets hasn't changed the nature of racial politics to justify threatening and intimidating people.

Joaquin Castro is being consistent with the two hundred year history of the Democratic Party.

Nerm,

First of all, the topic is not racism.

Second, the Democratic party is not 200 years old.

For independents that question would become why support Democrats?

It would depend on the Democrat, just as it would depend on the Republican. Independents vote issue and person, not party. Each party has its beauties in the past. So we look forward. Heck, if there was a third party to vote for that was viable, I would vote for them, too, but our 2 party system has made sure that they made it almost impossible to have a third party. So we just chose the lessor of two evils at that time.

Really for us, it is an awful way to vote, but that is the reality of the issue.

And do you realize how inconsistent you are being when you say that the Dems were started by the KKK (it was) and then say Castro a Latino who the KKK would despise, represents what the founding of the party WAS?

Should we also remember that although Lincoln freed the slaves that he was also a racist and was deeply concerned about what to do with all the freed slaves? That he actually didn't believe that whites and blacks were equal. Does that represent the Republican party now?

It's ridiculous to make any comparison back to the founding of these parties.

Partisan politics at it's best.

I'll say. You're clinging to a false narrative that even the New York Times apologized for to create some sort of "both sides do it" narrative which is just false. At this point, connecting the Giffords shooting to Palin is as dishonest as claiming Obama was born in Kenya.  It's simply false and perpetuating it, regardless if you fear being sued or not, is simply not honest.

where I can come out and say that Castro was wrong, neither you or Vic can say that Sarah was

I can say Palin was wrong about a whole of things. But I won't say she was wrong about that ad, anymore than I would say the Democrats were wrong for doing the same thing. That's the apples to apples comparison and my position is consistent between both Palin and the Democrats.  And neither the Democrats ad nor Palin's remotely equates to a politician publishing the private addresses of private citizens.

First of all, the topic is not racism.

The topic is Joaquin Castro using racial politics to justify intimidating people by doxxing them.

Second, the Democratic party is not 200 years old.

Okay.  The Democratic Party is 191 years, 6 months, 3 weeks, and 6 days old (as of Aug. 7, 2019).  The Democratic Party was founded on January 8, 1828, by Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren.  Andrew Jackson was the 7th President.  Martin Van Buren was the 8th President.  All Democratic Presidents elected before the Civil War supported the institution of slavery.

And do you realize how inconsistent you are being when you say that the Dems were started by the KKK (it was) and then say Castro a Latino who the KKK would despise, represents what the founding of the party WAS?

I am saying that Joaquin Castro is engaging in the same type of politics as Democrats did when they created the KKK.  The Democratic Party has not changed its use of racial politics.  The Democratic Party has only attracted a greater diversity of bigots which, naturally, has altered the specific racial politics being pursued by Democrats to accommodate that diversity.

It's ridiculous to make any comparison back to the founding of these parties.

If Democrats continue to use racial divisions and racial resentments to justify threats and intimidation then the Democratic Party really hasn't changed since its founding.  Different bigots, same politics.

Antebellum Democrats invented political correctness by claiming to be arbiters of proper behavior, speech, and social standards involving race and  enforced that political correctness by threat and intimidation.  The party of Jackson is still the party of Jackson 191 years, 6 months, 3 weeks, and 6 days later.

And both parties have used racial politics. It does not belong to just the Dems.

Antebellum Democrats invented political correctness by claiming to be arbiters of proper behavior, speech, and social standards involving race and  enforced that political correctness by threat and intimidation.

No Nerm. Antebellum Democrats were the KKK. Civil rights Dems of the 1960's are the ones you are talking about and I would have to say that threat and intimidation have been used by both parties..

vs Casto's tweet:

I don't see any names or personal addersses. Do you?

But let me make this clear, what I just said is not an endorcement of what Castro did. I am just showing you that it is done all the time.

And ss Newsweek posted:

Critics argued that such a post by a sitting member of Congress in the wake of mass shootings and hyper partisan tensions could persuade people to commit politically-motivated acts of violence, despite the information posted by Castro being publicly available online via the Federal Elections Commission .

David Rutz of the  Washington Free Beacon   observes  that Joaquin Castro’s “sad to see” comment is a step away from saying it’d “be a shame if something bad happened to your business.’”

So, "sad to see" is just a step from making threats towards specific people or groups? Well then what would this be called?

“When the owner of Bill Miller BBQ sends his people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people..."

How is that not a direct call for violence against the person/group being mentioned there if "sad to see" is supposedly a near threat?

John - Trump hasn't blamed the Hispanics - he is blaming the INVADERS, the ILLEGAL ALIENS, the LAW BREAKERS.  What the shooter said can't be tied to anything that Trump said as a serious statement.  Trump has NEVER advocated killing the foreign INVADERS, but he has, very openly, advocated their deportation.  How the shooter interpreted that is something neither you nor anyone else except the shooter can do accurately.

To bring it back on topic, we ought to be able to discuss issues like immigration without talking about killing one another, calling one another racist or ratcheting up the hateful rhetoric.

And that is it in a nutshell. This should be common sense. But look at this discussion and all you see is finger pointing. That is what is truly disturbing here. If you can't be honest about what the problem is, then the problem will continue.

Professors from MIT and Yale, using more sophisticated methodology, estimated in September 2018 that  22.1 million  undocumented aliens are in the U.S. Their estimate is based on operational data such as border apprehensions, deportations, visa overstays and demographic figures, as well as mortality and emigration rates. They evaluated the data with a mathematical model that estimates and tracks population inflows and outflows.

Yet, some of these factors are not wholly reliable. For instance, the professors acknowledged concern about the accuracy of apprehension data: "We don't know the number of people who cross the border successfully — we only know when people get caught trying."

The Border Patrol "estimates" that for each Illegal Alien captured, there are three who have crossed without capture.  So, using that thought process, if MIT and Yale "estimate" 22.1 Illegal Aliens, then 3 times that amount would equal 66.3 M Illegal Aliens - and, no, they won't fill out a Census Card either.

it just pisses me off when the first thing out of someone's mouth is calling someone racist or worse because they want SOME type of control over who enters and stays here.

I have no problem having logical discussions over how much money and resources should be spent on border control and what other things could be done to reduce the illegal border crossings. The problem isn't in having a debate over more wall, it's the openly racist rhetoric used by the head of one group that demonizes a specific ethnic minority.

If only Trump had said "Most of the illegal immigrants coming here are good people, they are just seeking a better life or safety from dangerous conditions in their own country. Some, I assume, aren't very good people, they're known to bring drugs, some are even rapists, so we need to crack down on any criminal immigrants. But it's important to remember, crossing the border is only a misdemeanor so we can't treat all immigrants, even the undocumented ones, as violent criminals that need to be feared. We just need to do better at preventing illegal border crossings and we can do this with a combination of using better technology, drones, more border wall where it's needed and taking a look at how we might help change the dangerous dynamic in some of the countries these families are fleeing making it less likely they would risk injury or death on a 2,000 miles journey."

That would have sounded Presidential and reasonable, but instead Trump had to rile up his crowd with:

“When Mexico sends it's people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people..." - DJT

I'm not sure how else to take that comment from Trump other than as a racist screed. He smeared an entire nation of people and said "They're rapists", how can that be seen as anything but a false bigoted statement? And since it clearly was a bigoted statement, are we not to call it what it is? Are we to remain silent so as to not rock the boat?

"First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

I have no problem having logical discussions over how much money and resources should be spent on border control and what other things could be done to reduce the illegal border crossings. The problem isn't in having a debate over more wall, it's the openly racist rhetoric used by the head of one group that demonizes a specific ethnic minority.

I don't believe that for a second.

If it was true, then you could have left it at that instead of going off on yet another I Hate Trump rant.

There’s nothing racist in that statement from Trump

first of all, Being Mexican is a nationality, not a race.  Among Mexican citizens are Blond, blue eyed Spanish descent, Indigenous, French descent, and Black

his statement referred to the known fact that illegals are not the college educated, professional class.  The majority lack even a high school education. Furthermore we have the arrest and prison records from California, Arizona, and Texas to prove the high crime rates.

I don't believe that for a second.

Believe what you want, I stated my position.

If it was true, then you could have left it at that instead of going off on yet another I Hate Trump rant.

Like I said, I have no problem having a reasonable discussion about border security. But I'm not the one calling Mexicans "rapists". When Trump did that he eliminated any possibility for civility, he sabotaged logic and reason in preference of fear and hate, slandering an entire ethnic group of which there are nearly 40 million legal Mexican American citizens. It was disgusting, and to ignore it and say "Ah, that's just Trump, let's get back to a reasonable debate on border security" is impossible.

I could dislike Trump just from his slimy personality, his blatant narcissism, his own words about how he "doesn't even wait" for consent to just start grabbing women he's attracted to, the nearly two dozen accusations of sexual assault, his cheating on all three wives, his paying hundreds of thousands to porn stars to keep them quiet during the campaign, his serial bankruptcies, his disrespect for Gold Star families, his constant lying. But to truly hate the man-shaped pile of feces that is Donald Trump took him embracing white supremacists, calling Nazi's "fine people" while calling Mexicans "rapists". I have no qualms about admitting that to me, Trump is no better than the shooter at Walmart and I feel Trump is equally responsible and if we had a truly just justice system he would share the same fate. I would love to see Trump in an orange jumpsuit shackled hands and feet shuffling to the yard in Guantanamo, it's exactly what he deserves.

Are you really going down that road again? It's the lamest excuse for why Trump calling Mexicans "rapists" isn't racist.

Synonyms for ethnicity:

Race, ethnicity and nationality are often used interchangeably and are seen as synonyms.

What Trump said was racist, pure and simple, regardless of whether Mexican is an ethnicity or a Nationality. He was inciting fear of that nationality, that ethnic group and called them collectively "rapists".

Among Mexican citizens are Blond, blue eyed Spanish descent, Indigenous, French descent, and Black

There are many different looking Jews in the world, how would you have reacted if Trump had said:

“When Israel sends it's people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people..."

I think anyone with more than half a brain would have concluded that statement as both anti-Semitic and racist. Why is it somehow "okay" because he was talking about Mexicans?

So you're going on record to say no Jewish immigrant has ever smuggled drugs, has ever committed a crime, never raped a single person and have always entered the US legally, none even overstaying a visa? Or do you have some statistics to show an abnormally large number of Mexican immigrants do? The statistics I've seen show that immigrants actually commit less crime than native born Americans.

So if you're trying to use the excuse of "Well, it doesn't apply to anyone but Mexicans!" that actually makes it more racist.

He named PRIVATE CITIZENS and businesses. Are you ok with Trump or any other government official doing the exact same thing to you?

Again, if you donate to a political campaign, it's public knowledge. All he did was post already publicly available information, so why EXACTLY is that a problem?

And no, I would have no problems with my publicly available information being...publicly available because I literally have nothing to hide.

Sure, this information wasn't secret, but you draw people's attention to it for a reason. i.e., you want a reaction. What is that reaction going to be? I think we can safely assume that his intention was that the reaction is negative in some way. Maybe it will be a boycott. Maybe it will be some kind of verbal harassment. Maybe it will be violence. Is there potential positive value in this? I don't see it. Coming from someone in government, this is an attack on the 1st Amendment - in spirit if not in the letter of the law.
