Michigan official once honored by Dems now facing election fraud charges
“Our elections are the foundation of our democracy, and under my and Attorney General [Dana] Nessel’s administration there will be no tolerance for any actions that undermine that foundation — anywhere, anytime, by any person or official,” Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said in a statement.

A Michigan official who earlier this year received an award from the state’s   Democratic Party  is now facing six felony charges for allegedly forging records and falsely marking absentee ballots as invalid during the 2018 election.

Sherikia Hawkins, 38, city clerk for the city of Southfield, was arrested Monday after the Oakland County Clerk’s office noticed discrepancies in   voter   counts while certifying absentee ballots from Southfield. State police investigated and found that records had been altered so that nearly 200 voter files were improperly listed as invalid.

According to court documents, Michigan police found that 193 absentee voter files were changed in the city’s computer system to say they either had no signature or no return date, when they had both valid signatures and return dates. Police stated that after Oakland County Election Director Joseph Rozell found that Hawkins had submitted altered reports, his staff found the original ones in a trash can at the election division office.

Benson insisted that the alleged fraud did not affect the outcome of the election.

“All valid votes in the election were ultimately counted and the final official vote total was accurate,” she said, according to   The Detroit News .

Hawkins’ arrest comes just months after she was honored May 18 at the Michigan Democratic Party’s Legacy Dinner, where she received the Dingell/Levin Award. In 2017, she was listed among the "40 under 40" by the Michigan Chronicle, according to a government bio from her previous role as Pontiac city clerk.

Hawkins was charged with falsifying records in violation of state election law, forgery of a public record, misconduct in office and three counts of using a computer to commit a crime. The top count carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.

She was arraigned on Monday and released on $15,000 bond, according to a state press release. Hawkins has a probable cause conference set for Sept. 30, and another hearing scheduled for Oct. 15.

Yawn. This is nothing new.

I wonder who she pissed off? Nothing ever came from the voting discrepancies during the Jill stein recount.

Overall, state records show 10.6 percent of the precincts in the 22 counties that began the retabulation process couldn’t be recounted because of state law that bars recounts for unbalanced precincts or ones with broken seals.
The problems were the worst in Detroit, where discrepancies meant officials couldn’t recount votes in 392 precincts, or nearly 60 percent. And two-thirds of those precincts had too many votes.

Being from Michigan we both know this is nothing new.

I still remember the Dems trying to run fake Tea Party candidates in order to divide the conservative vote.

The Oakland County Democratic Party says it has requested and accepted the resignation of operations director Jason Bauer in the wake of accusations he notarized campaign filings for a fake Tea Party candidate.

"We are saddened by this situation, but cannot condone his alleged actions," the OCDP said Sunday in a released statement.  "For the sake of the organization, we must part ways effective immediately."

Oakland County Clerk Ruth Johnson, a Republican candidate for secretary of state, announced the allegations against Bauer on Friday, noting she had turned over documents to the county prosecutor and Michigan Attorney General's office for further investigation.

Johnson said her office was contacted by Aaron Tyler, a former Springfield Township resident who moved to Phoenix in late July only to find he had been nominated as a Tea Party candidate for a seat on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.

Tyler said he'd never filed to run for the office, let alone signed an affidavit of identity which Bauer allegedly notarized. "I figured it must have been some sort of mistake," Tyler wrote in a letter.  "I believe a fraud was committed."

A group calling itself "The Tea Party" last month nominated 23 candidates, including Tyler, for offices around the state. A number of tea party organizations and Republicans have suggested Democrats are backing the candidates in an attempt to split the conservative vote in November.

Bauer notarized affidavits for twelve of the 23 candidates.  Both the county and Michigan Democratic Party tell the newspaper they had no role in the process and were not aware of Bauer's involvement.

We love our political shenanigans in Michigan.

Of course the State had documented proof that non-Citizens were voting as well.

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan's voter rolls may contain as many as 4,000 registered voters who are not U.S. citizens according to new data, Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson announced today.

"Elections have been won or lost on far less than 4,000 votes," said Johnson. "Five state house seats in Michigan's primary last month were decided by fewer than 100 votes each. Don't tell me that every vote isn't critical. We have to face this issue, not ignore it, or we are doing a disservice to every legitimate voter in Michigan."

Johnson has repeatedly asked federal officials – the only ones who have complete citizenship data – for help in identifying thousands of non-U.S. citizens on the state's voter rolls but to date they have refused.

"The whole reason we have non-U.S. citizens on our rolls in the first place is because for more than 30 years the feds required us to ask every customer if they wanted to register to vote, regardless of citizenship," Johnson said. "So today, we could have 4,000 people on our voter rolls who don't belong there – that's the population of cities like Bloomfield Hills or Durand."

Michigan Department of State staff verified that almost 1,000 people who are noncitizens are registered to vote, despite only having access to about 19 percent of complete citizenship data. Staff compared about 58,000 driver's license and personal identification card records where citizenship status could be verified back to 2010 with voter registration records. Of those, 54 appear to have a voting history in the state's qualified voter files for a total of 95 votes.

With the most-recent U.S. Census' five-year American Community Survey showing that Michigan has a noncitizen population of more than 304,000 people, it is estimated that as many as 4,000 noncitizens in Michigan could be registered voters.

Noncitizens who inadvertently registered to vote because a government form was put in front of them who vote can face felony criminal charges or even deportation, no matter how long they have worked toward becoming U.S. citizens.

Ah yes Southfield.   Right outside the heart of Michigan's liberal hive.   Every once in a long while a worker drone from there gets splattered on the windshield.

Give her a cell next to Kwame.   They can compare notes for future reference.
