Missiles were fired early Wednesday in multiple locations across Iraq, a senior U.S. military source in the country told Fox News, describing it as a series of attacks on U.S. forces from Iran.

Missiles were fired early Wednesday in multiple locations across   Iraq , a senior   U.S. military   source in the country told Fox News, describing it as a series of attacks on U.S. forces from   Iran .

The source told Fox News' Jennifer Griffin: "Under missile attack from Iran. These are either cruise missiles or short-range ballistic missiles. All over the country." The missiles struck near Al Assad Air Base in Anbar, among other locations. There was no immediate word on injuries or damage.
Meantime, Iran state TV claimed Tehran launched "tens" of surface-to-surface missiles at Iraq's Ain Assad air base housing U.S. troops.
It came days after Iranian Quds Force  Gen. Qassem Soleimani  was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Baghdad's  airport . A senior Iraqi commander of an Iran-backed militia also was killed. The U.S. blamed Soleimani for the killing of hundreds of American troops, and said he was plotting new attacks just before his death.

Iranian officials and  President Trump  have  traded threats  since Soleimani's death, and more U.S. troops have been  deployed to the region  amid heightened tensions.

Iran-backed militias in Iraq, known as the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), have threatened revenge on American interests and personnel for the killings.

This is a developing story; check back for updates. Fox News' Jennifer Griffin contributed to this report.

Yes-- Trump is a typical Chicken-Hawk Neo-Con-- he certainly has no hesitation in putting Americans in harms way.

(Hopefully his advisors will get to him and get our soldiers out before many are killed or maimed for life).

He's performing as I expected-- supporting our Endless Middle eastern Wars by sending in more and more American soldiers to die! :-(

Up until now I thought he was pretty much a shoo-in to win re-election-- but as casulatuies mount, IMO the chances of his winning re-election grow less likely... (yes-- even despite the lackluster democratic fiels, and despite the economy...Americans are growing sick of these endless wars...

Oh ya you prefer straight cowards. You and the media can back Iran now. The rest of the country will rally behind the Commander-in-Chief.

You should have thought of that when Obama was giving them cash.

We are fighting because Iran killed Americans. Don't you think it's better to defend American lives than be a pussy like obama ?

President Trump made sure obama took his red crayon with him when he shuffled out of the White House, he didn't need the great leader from behinds diplomacy tools.

My sentiments exactly, but lets leave Iran a pile of rubble before we pull out in my opinion. I have two cousins that died over in Iraq and it could very well have been by roadside bombs supplied by Iran.

Iran has just took it up a notch launching missiles from Iran at American forces.

My guess is that your opinion may change with the increasing number of American casualties.

And another possibility: that Trump's decision to kill a highly popular Iranian "here" might ultimately change the likely outcome of the next U.S. presidential election from a pretty likely Trump victory to a likely Trump defeat.

That depends on what happens now. Iran is obviously trying to unseat him. They calculate that the US has no stomach for long costly wars. I don't think this will go that way. I realize what they have acquired over the past decade. I read how their missiles that were fired against Saudi oil fields flew under radar. I happen to think they are going down nonetheless. Trump Once Called Them ‘My Generals.’ After Mattis Resigns, They’ll All Be Gone

And with the exception of Michael Flynn—a short-term advisor who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI and who awaits sentencing—three other generals serving various roles in the Trump Administration were often viewed as the “adults in the room.”

With their military discipline and experience in managing staff and interacting with the highest levels of government, they often stood in sharp contrast to the multi-millionaires, billionaires, and campaign surrogates Trump appointed to most other key executive positions.

Soon, none of these “adults” will remain:

That depends on what happens now. Iran is obviously trying to unseat him.

Perhaps-- I'm not sure that that's their primary objective.I think what they want is an end to sanctions against them, and to end the American presence in the Middle East.-- particularly in a neighbouring country (Iraq). Well, also Syria where they are proping up Assad. (I think if they could have that they wouldn't care if trump is president.

They calculate that the US has no stomach for long costly wars.

Hopefully they're right about that! (I'm not Persian, but I have no stomach for long costly wars either! Defeat ISIS and keep them defeated? Let the Kurds and the Iranians do that for us-- we shouldn't be there!

I think by now many Americans no longer have the stomach to have their kids killed-- or seriously maimed for life-- trying to keep Iraqis   safe! (Especially since it never works anyway-- unless we have a large permanent presence there-- forever.).

I realize what they have acquired over the past decade. I read how their missiles that were fired against Saudi oil fields flew under radar. I happen to think they are going down nonetheless.

In a conventional war they wouldn't stand a chance against us (or even against a tiny country like Israel for that matter). But in the region, they are a formidable power.

What do you mean by "going down"? If we "punish" their citizens to the extent of committing actual war crimes...that might not be so great an idea.

And remember-- the country is split-- part of their [opulation supports the religious fanatics running the country, and part are secular people who want true democracy and to be free of the repressive government. Should we kill them all?

Perhaps the best we could hope for is to get their forces out of Iraq-- but if they're not there to fight ISIS for us...then ISIS will return to power.

"Since our votes carry the force of law, we need to be more specific in our resolutions, and it's simply not true that attacking cultural sites is always a war crime because there are many instances in which cultural sites have been used as staging grounds for hostilities," Inhofe said.  He added that he hoped Markey would amend his resolution "to acknowledge an exception for when cultural sites are used for staging military attacks or other improper purposes."

Something I've been preaching since this started...

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if the Iranians used cultural sites for military purposes.  After all, Hezbollah put their missile launching platforms (and probably hides its missles) in residentail areas of south Lebanon, and Hamas launches its missiles from school and mosque locations as well as residential areas and hides its weaponry in UNRWA schools and puts its headquarters in places like hospitals. It's a win-win for them because if Israel strikes those locations Hamas or Hezbollah can bring war-crime accusations against Israel, and the ICC is obviously not interested in WHY those sites could get bombed, they're just out to get Israel (as is pretty well the rest of the world).

The breathless news reporting has been amusing.  Yes, the mouse has roared.  Little details yet.  What do we know so far?

Iran was forced to respond quickly to satisfy Iranian public sentiment; the Revolutionary regime reacted to public sentiment rather than politicizing the situation.  Iran was forced to engage in a conventional response against conventional targets.  Iran was forced to claim responsibility which was a backhanded way to state that the Revolutionary regime has not authorized a response by proxies.  Iran was forced to conform to conventional rules for a nation state.

Trump has three obvious options.  Trump can up the ante by striking a significant military target inside Iran.  Trump can retaliate in kind by striking a less significant target, possibly in Iraq.  Trump could claim that the Iranian strike was inconsequential and doesn't warrant a response.

If Trump decides that the Iranian strike was inconsequential then Iran loses some prestige in the region.  That's my guess but Trump is too unpredictable for any sort of speculative certainty.

Remember this from a day or two ago

"These Media Posts will serve as notification to the United States Congress that should Iran strike any U.S. person or target, the United States will quickly & fully strike back,& perhaps in a disproportionate manner," the president tweeted. "Such legal notice is not required, but is given nevertheless!"

Our blowhard "president" is on record (twitter is the official communication medium of the Trump administration dontcha know) as vowing a "full" retaliatory strike against Iran on a night like this.

What will happen? Iran has said that if the US does not strike back it is over (for now).
